Cancel for any reason insurance or not?

Thank you. I have emailed them twice about the status. They gave me a link to check the status, but it has not updated for weeks. They said it is still being processed :confused3

I will keep on them as I don't want it to fall between the cracks!

Sorry for my naive suggestion. :) I should have known you had already followed up, but honestly, we didn't for a very long time so I thought you might not have either. That, and the fact that they thought they had replied, when I thought they hadn't.

I look forward to hearing how it resolves for you! Best of luck!

Thanks! I hope they come through for me like they did for you!

Also, on a previous vacation, (not a cruise) my grandmother broke her hip the day before we left. She was not coming with us, but it took us two days to get her situated in the hospital, and even then one of us stayed behind with her, so our trip insurance paid for all of our lost time and lost expenses. We certainly didn't expect that, but we did know that she was elderly and thus we knew things can happen at any time.

This year, DH is TDY and can be held back at base at the last possible minute so the Cancel for any reason was a given. But, I would have gotten it anyway because it covers any pre-existing medical as well. My *ahem* mature Mom (she would die if I called her elderly) is watching my son while we are gone. If something happens to HER, I needed to be sure we were covered. Because that is a definitely vacay dealbreaker right there.

those situations don't require "for any reason" insurance, though. When making insurance arrangements, read it through to see if "illness/death of relatives not traveling with you" is covered. And make sure you're booking early enough and make the choice of the insurance product that has the pre-existing condition waiver.

When we've purchased trip insurance (and we don't always) we have NOT gotten the "any reason" insurance (I'm actually not sure they sell it to WA residents) but we HAVE gotten the pre-existing condition waiver and we made sure that cancellation/interruption because of illness/death of non-traveling relatives was covered. Both needed b/c if anyone would cause that it's MIL, and with the variety of issues she has, anything barring a car accident where she's not driving would be a pre-existing condition. (and if it sounds like I'm heartless, I'm not...I'm her main caregiver and we are very VERY honest about everything when talking about her health...gotta break in a new doc tomorrow for her, and it's going to get frighteningly frank in that appointment! just is how it is.)

We actually had to make a claim on a vacation when our youngest DS was born (although not for a DCL vacation). We had plans to travel to New Zealand for my BFFs wedding and my DS would've been about 4-weeks old when we traveled. Not the most ideal time to travel but the trip had been planned before I had gotten pregnant. The pediatrician stated as long as DS had his 1st set of immunizations we would be good to fly. Fast forward, DS is born 4-weeks early, 1-week before we are set to fly out, I still have a postpartum infection and DS is still having quite a battle with jaundice. Needless to say, neither of us was cleared to fly out of the country. I was never so glad to have booked travel insurance. It took quite of bit of documentation from the the physicians and a couple of months, but eventually, all our $$ was reimbursed. We took that money and went to WDW when we were actually all better and able to fly. We never travel without insurance because in our family, stuff does come up, and flying clear across the country, I'd hate to miss the cruise due to who knows what!

I've not done the "cancel for any reason" coverage given how much it adds to the cost and most things are covered under the policy (pending which policy you purchase). That said, our cruise a couple weeks back we had a short scare where we thought we may not be allowed to board the boat. Our daughter when she gets a cold spikes a fever for the first few days and often times has a sore throat (drainage). We were honest on the health form at port and disclosed she had a fever and sore throat. We had to talk to the ship nurse before being allowed to board. We had, fortunately, had enough notice that we got our daughter in for a strep and flu test the morning we were leaving for the port (thank you Minute Clinic) which were both negative. Sharing that information helped us I think. But, a scary 10 minutes when you're standing at check-in concerned you may not be allowed on board.

This could be. It depends on the policy, I suppose. In our case, we were three households, mine, my sister's and my mother's, all traveling together. Thus we had to have three separate policies. My grandmother was living with my mother at the time, so I'm sure my mother was covered, but I'm not certain it would have applied to our policies. Maybe it would have. Thanks for pointing that out. Just goes to show you need to understand the coverages and the options, and the best way to do that (IMO) is to talk to a person on the phone, not a website. Though websites can be good to for comparing companies, etc., but when actually purchasing the policy, I like to talk to a person.
