Cancel entire reservation?

I was just reading something on another thread and was very curious of what the policy would be in this circumstance:

If my flight to go to Disney was cancelled or changed due to weather etc and therefore I couldn't check in on my first night but I will be there the next day, do they cancel my whole reservation?

Or do I just need to call them and say that I am still at the airport and they have delayed/cancelled my flight and will be arriving tomorrow, and in that case they will just hold the room and note on my reservation about the circumstance?

I never thought of it. But I had recently had a flight delayed for 8 hours because of weather and it was a good thing that the original flight was in the morning. But if it was at night, then the best I would be able to do is get another flight the next morning, which means that I wouldn't be able to check in on my first night. What would have happened then?

:confused3

Unless you cancel before the day you are supposed to arrive, your trip is deemed charged for the entire stay on the day you are supposed to arrive. If you have a problem that day, you just call and let them know you will not arrive until the next day; you will, of course, be charged the points for the day you miss.

Anytime you have a long delay it's best to call the places on the other end to let them know. (Hotel, car rental etc)

That other thread was saying is... Once your reservation has started, you can not cancel any part of it, all the points are then considered used.

But no, they wont cancel your whole reservation if your delayed by weather.

Thanks for the responses. This is what I assumed but when I read the info from the other thread, which, now that I see, probably meant that I couldn't cancel the reservation on the check in day and not that they would cancel it for me if I didn't check in.

Thanks again for the info and suggestions. I would, normally, call if my flight was going to be delayed indefinitely or my flight has been moved to the next day. But now, I agree, I should call in with any long delays, just to be on the safe side and to let them know that I will be checking in.:)
