Ugh!!!!!!!!!! We are suppose to go to Disney during Christmas break. I think my ex has disappeared. No child support in over a month :scared: I believe what he has done is gotten a job "under the table" and his residence is unknown. I have raised the kids on my own for the past 11 years and have had to fight for any child support. About a year ago, I finally was able to get his wages garnished through the child support enforcement office of the state and now they don't know any more than I do. So, I guess I should be happy for the year of child support I received but... I guess it's over!!!
Does anyone know of any way to track down dead beats like this??? It's going to make our family so sad to have to cancel Disney...but ya got to do what you got to do :sad1: :scared:

I would start by contacting your local domestic relations office. I'm so sorry

Do you have a last known address? SSN? You can also contact the courts where you live and see if you can file an abandonment order. I know here in GA you can file if there has been no payment for 30 days. If you don't know where he currently lives, does he have a relative nearby that you can use their address to have him served? If you're able to get an abandonment order done, you will usually get a court date within 3 weeks. If he fails to show up for that, they will issue a warrant. Even if he left the state, if he ever gets pulled over and they run his license, they will pick him up.

well that about sucks. :(

Do you know where he was working last? Drive over there and chat up the receptionist and see if it leads to any information.

I know you can get his tax return if there is any. I don't know how to do it however.

If he has his wages garnished for child support and he had any arrears, they will take his refund, if he has any, to pay the arrears. She wouldn't have to do anything, the child support office will take care of that. The IRS will run his SSN before issuing his refund and if he owes any money, they'll take it.

He knows how to dodge all the bullets...I imagine he does fill a tax return but he doesn't get a return.

This is interesting! I'm in Connecticut. I wonder about this abandonment order???? I never heard of it so we probably don't have that here. As far as a relative goes, I talked to his mom tonight and she doesn't know anything...and I do believe her. He's a real gem and doesn't even bother with his mom!

Thanks for this...I will check if we have this abandonment order in CT!!!

Get a hold of an attorney, the IRS, your local court system...whomever you ahve to. The IRS would probably be very interested to know he was working and being paid under the table.

Attorney...costs money and last time the attorney I had said "You'll be better off never hearing from him again, so forget about any $".

I would love to get his butt in trouble with the IRS or child support enforcement because he is working under the table but the problem is (per the words of a judge) you have to prove that he is working under the table...so I guess I would have to hire a private investigator and I don't even know where he lives!!!

I have had a very hard life, raising these kids by myself for 11 years, cancer, change of career path, etc. etc. I love my kids a zillion, trillion but I can't help getting so angry that this guy hasn't helped in any way raise these kids!!!

I am so sorry....no advice...just been there done that as a kid.....

:grouphug: Deadbeats suck!

Contact your local child enforcement agency. They should be able to get you on the right track. I found this info online http://www.ct.gov/dss/cwp/view.asp?a=2353&Q=305184

Thankfully me ex has paid his child support 90% of the time. He lacks a lot in other areas but it could be worse.

I'm so sorry. I've dealt with this as a child and it is really hard. I will be thinking about you and your family.

I don't know how it works but I saw a poster at the DMV when I got my new license that you can have your drivers license revoked in MN for failure to pay child support. Maybe that is an avenue you can pursue-track him down through the DMV.

It is sad, but really there is nothing you can do until he turns up again., other than look for him.
Unfortunately you are one in a sea of cases for Support Enforcement and if you don't have a good case worker sometimes that isn't much help either. See if they can refer your case to the County prosecuting Attorney, maybe that will scare him, although it didn't work well for me.

I am sorry about your trip.

This happened to me. I was able to go to the PO with the last known address, pay a fee and come home with the current address. Now this was about 10 yrs ago, so I do not know if this can still be done.

You should also contact your child support division and let them know. Keep on them about it, but nicely of course. Once we located DS's bio-dad (DH finally was able to adopt him a few yrs back), the Prosecuting Attorney for the Child Support Div put in our court papers that if he missed a single payment, he would have to do 32 hours of community service. If he did not report to community service, then a warrant for his arrest would be issued.

Most states do have some sort of abandonment clause. Here in IN it is if there has been no support/contact for 1 yr. We were able to use that to our advantage when DH filed for the step parent adoption.
