cancel aol

I have aol paying $5.00 a month. I only use it for my email. If I cancel it will I be able to still use that email address?

Yes. I have been trying to explain this to my dad (he pays > $20/month) who has high speed internet but I can't convince him he's wasting his money.

I have an old email address from AOL I hardly use, I haven't paid a dime to AOL in probably 15 years.

yep, I switched yrs ago. Somehow or other you just click on the free email and it will stay the same. I've had my email since 2000. I know silly. I have all kinds of emails but that is the one I seem to remember the easiest

I just logged on today after a few months. I keep it around for older things and I will still give it out as a throw away email.

My brother still pays for AOL, but it is also his only way to get on the internet. Yup, dialup still. He did buy a new computer, but had to take it back and have a modem put it because they aren't standard anymore!

I use the email all the time and have it hooked to so many accounts I'm not sure I could easily change. I haven't paid a dime for it.

Also have a gmail and a work gmail.

I also feel pretty old when I give my 18 year old email address to people.

I know! They just look tilt their head funny and kind of smirk like they are thinking "look at the old lady she has no clue". But I do have a clue. I'm just a creature of habit

Are you using dial up only or do you have another way to access the internet? If you have another way you do not need to be paying AOL $5 a month. I have had high speed internet via a cable modem since 1998, still have an AOL email addy (used for junk and other stuff like bills), and have not paid AOL a dime since then.

Go to AOL.com and you can check it out. As mentioned in a previous post, I still use it for some emails etc

Exactly! Well, being an older lady I could care less. I haven't got enough free time to do a transfer and I don't see that it is worth the effort anyway.
