Has anyone been successful with cancelling their southwest card and reapplying to get another 50,000 points?

I don't think that Chase would allow it. Here's what I found right on the webpage for the offer (http://www.mychasecreditcards.com/southwest/2ffpartnerspremier) :
2. Bonus Points

Rapid Rewards points can be redeemed for Wanna Get Away?® Fares at a rate of 60 points for each $1 of fare price. To qualify for your bonus points, you must make purchases totaling $1,000 or more during the first 3 months from account opening; please allow 6 to 8 weeks for bonus points to post to your Rapid Rewards account. Purchases do not include using your account for balance transfers or cash advances, or using any checks that access your account. To be eligible for this bonus offer, account must be open and not in default at the time of fulfillment. This one-time bonus offer is valid only for first-time Southwest Airlines Rapid Rewards personal Cardmembers with new accounts. Previous and existing Southwest Airlines Rapid Rewards personal Cardmembers/accounts are not eligible for this bonus offer.

I suppose that if you have a business, you could apply for a business account and that would be a different case entirely. But to cancel a personal account and the re-apply for another personal account probably would not work.

Just be aware that will go on your credit rating and show up on your score.

I signed up for the one with two free round trip tickets a little over a year ago. Canceled it in November 2011 and applied in March for the 50,000 points and was approved with no issues.

It says now that you have to put $1000 on your card before you get the 50,000 points. Is that what you did?

I applied for my DH in Dec for the 50k miles deal and have not used all the points yet(we drove down in March instead) and have 30,000 left over after booking Oct... so the points are already in his RR acct and would not be effected right they stay there. I will not lose them...I just have to fly on SW right? I have like 28k points too on my RR acct...they don't exprire?:)

This is helpful to me. I cancelled the card 15 months ago, and then reapplied and received the card two weeks ago. I've been worried that they might deny the bonus, so was trying to decide whether to just cancel it before the fee comes due. (They haven't posted that yet.) I'm assuming both your cards were personal, as opposed to business cards?

I got a regular one last year and I applied for the business card with the latest offer. The business card came in the mail today. I spoke on the phone with the customer service agent and confirmed that I will be receiving the 50,000 points after the $1000 is charged. I'll post again when they actually hit the account, but I'm pretty darn hopeful.

As far as canceling credit cards and reapplying hurting your credit score. I do it all the time with store cc, and I have been doing it for years. My credit score is still quite strong.

Doing one business card application and one personal is never a problem. You'll definitely get your points. :) I made the mistake of applying for a second personal card, which could be an issue, but there isn't enough info out there for me to be sure yet.

I agree that it you have a very high credit score, applying for another card makes only a tiny difference, and even those few points are restored within a couple of months.

If you have a good credit score, and a good length and history it wont hurt much. Also if you aren't planning on taking out any loans, buying a house etc it really doesn't matter. Your score will bounce back within a year.
