Cancel and re-book?

DH is running the marathon in Jan 09, and since we know the value resorts fill up quickly, we wanted to book right away. The only way we could book for 09 was to book the marathon package and you can't book dining with it, just hotel and park tickets. So we went ahead and booked it, but have since decided we want the dining option.

The rates for 09 become available in August. Do you think it would be possible to cancel our reservations and then re-book a package that includes a dining plan on the same phone call so we don't lose our rooms? Has anyone done this? I'm hoping that they won't keep our deposit and then make us pay another one for the new room.

The other option is that Disney would release some special offer for the marathon that included discount dining. I read somewhere that Disney did this in the past as Jan. approached, but I'm worried about waiting and hoping that they'll come out with an offer.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated!

Did you book directly through Disney? If so, I think you should be able to switch your package once the 09 dates become available. In the past I've called and switched resorts with no problem, and didn't need to cancel the original and give another deposit. The changes were made more than 45 days prior to our trip which is what you'd be doing, right?

We did book through Disney, and will be changing in August, which is much longer than 45 days before our trip. That's good news, thanks!
