Canadians visiting in March/April/May - Concerns About a Positive Test?

While it's great that the Canadian govt has now given the option for a 24 hour pre-arrival antigen test for re-entering Canada, the fact remains that if anyone in your family tests positive, you're stuck in the US for 10 days isolating.

While the prospect of this may seem unlikely to most, without a mask mandate anymore, and with huge crowds expected, the chances of catching Omicron are probably higher than you think.

Is anyone else planning to cancel/reschedule if they don't drop the pre-arrival tests altogether?

I don't think you need to isolate in the states. I go home and isolate. They will still let you in

I’m coming from Australia, and if we test positive we aren’t allowed on a flight for 7 days, so we face the same issue. Very scary thought but I’m hoping things might change by the time we go.

Without a negative test, or a positive test 11-180 days prior with a doctor's note, you can't re-enter Canada without a fine of $5000.

Nope. Just get covid insurance. Time to move on with life.
Insurance doesn't cover missing 10 days of school or work. For my daughter who's got a 4.0 GPA and looking to get into a top university, even missing ONE day of school is detrimental.

Living in Canada, I still have the hope that they drop the land border test, since we're flying through Seattle. It'll also be cheaper to quarantine in a US border town, rather than in Anaheim, too. But it's the 10 days that's killer. We could do up to 5 days if they shortened the quarantine time, but they seem unlikely to do that. 😞

We planned around the possiblility of a 10 day quarantine in the US. DH and I will be bringing our work laptops and DS will still have at least 10 more days of March Break.
Glad that works out for you guys. I could plan around an extra 5 days, but not 10. Our spring break is only 2 weeks, and we have over a week planned in LA :(

We're not cancelling. We're just going to employ our extreme caution approach (which we did in August at the height of Delta -- the first time in over 100 WDW vacations that I did not go on a single ride). We are sticking with the RT LAMP test that we got from Switch because it's 72 hours before the flight and if we manage to test negative at least we can enjoy the last three days stress-free (as opposed to the new antigen option meaning you worry up until the final 24 hours). There was a comment at the very end of today's announcement that basically said they'll watch the numbers and if they continue to decline as they are right now (fingers crossed) they may make additional adjustments in the coming weeks. So there's a sliver that it could be dropped by March Break if numbers keep going down (one can dream, right?).

It will be close for us, DS has to be back at school on the 11th day after we are scheduled to get home!

I may shorten our trip to 6 days to get it in with 10 days to spare. Everything is still available, but just slightly less time in DL. Flying through Seattle means we can test and quarantine near the border too, which wouldn't be too bad, money wise.

What a gong show! But at least I won't have to cancel... AGAIN!

We have all had omicron, but no PCR to prove it. So while I'm sure we'll be fine there is a tiny fear of testing positive while away! I'm planning on bringing my work laptop.

We're not going to cancel but yeah, the thought stresses me out! We live in Ontario about 15 minutes from the border so it's absolutely ludicrous to me that we can't cross with a positive test and instead should go to a hotel to quarantine, potentially exposing other people. But also, my parents live in Michigan just a few hours away from us so I think we might test after our flight (we are flying to California from Detroit) and if positive, just go to their house to quarantine. So that at least eliminates the expense for us but I would not be happy about it. We're also crossing the border this weekend - we bought tickets way back in October for my daughter's birthday to see Hamilton, so I've been super stressed about that return test! We're going to test with rapid tests before we leave our house and we're going straight to the PCR test before we see anyone or do anything (it's within the 72 hour window) so hopefully that reduces the risk of a positive test! But my husband is going to bring his work computer just in case! Lol

I'm not going until May so I hope the testing requirement will be gone by then. I'm just happy they got rid of the under 5s having to quarantine for 14 days since my daughter is only 4.

That's my fear - I've had it and I'll test positive! This is why the tests are dumb at this point!!!
Yeah, I wasn't that worried about testing before omicron because we are pretty careful and we didn't really know anyone who had gotten covid. Now, we know many many people who have had covid in the last 2 months who are all vaccinated and pretty careful, so it no longer seems like that is good enough to avoid it! I was really hoping they would scrap tests for land borders!

New Zealand here and we are planning for October have hotel booked and paid (2 nights Disneyland hotel), and 7 day park hopper tickets booked (5 days then a 2 day ticket). Have accommodation booked for 6 nights but it is pay when your arrive. Have not booked airfare yet as it is insanely expensive it is over double what we had paid to come in October 2015 (which was cancelled due to international boarder closing and plane not flying).

I was waiting to see what happens with pre departure testing requirements to get into USA and Home to New Zealand however now the mask mandate is being dropped I'm not feeling as comfortable.
