We will be driving to Syracuse to catch a flight to Orlando. Does anyone have experience with being able to use a Canadian drivers licence photo ID as identification with the boarding pass to get on flights? Or are we, as Canadians, required to have Canadian Passports? We travelled this way to Florida in 2002 and we didn't have any problems. Has the security situation changed or should we be Ok this time as well. Travelling with my husband and three boys (red hair, blue eyes). Thanks for any info.

From what I understand all you need is photo id.
I always carry my passport and give them that. I don't think you'll have a problem.

Have a great trip!

We are getting passports for our first trip coming up in November. It came highly recommended by our travel agent. But since you're a family with young children, i doubt that you'll have any troubles. Have fun!! :flower:

I'd definitely have birth certificates if you're not carrying passports, as well as the D.L.'s. Driver's licences can be attained by anyone up here, as can BC;s :) but thats another story :)
Passports are my choice, but right now not mandatory.

I have flown out of Syracuse a few times (US Airlines, Delta) by myself and with the family. There has never been a problem using my DL as a photo ID. The kids require no separate ID.

When you cross the border you do need photo ID for the adults and Birth Certificates (proof of citizenship) for everybody.

Apparently 2008 will see new requirements for passports.

This is what we have done when flying from Buffalo at least half a dozen times.

Just back yesterday DL was all that was required on Northwest airlines and at the border. We took birth certificates too.Have a great trip.

Thanks for all the info. I wasn't looking forward to having to get passports (too much paperwork). We usually travel across the border with BC and DL's. Just wanted to make sure nothing had changed.
