Hi. I'm a Canadian taking my DD18 to France this summer. I know this is the UK board but I'm hoping someone can answer a question I have. We need to use the TGV from Paris to Nice on a sunday evening in August. If I go on the TGV website I see prices that are not too bad with discounts available. But my problem is they won't let someone from North America use it to book tickets. They direct me to www.raileurope.com to book from Canada. When I do that the price goes up triple. No discounts and I'm charged quite a bit just to have the tickets sent to me. My question is this. I get into Paris on the Friday before (CDG). Would I be safe in waiting til we arrive at CDG to get our tickets then or is it likely to be sold out? How full do these trains get?

Thanks so much for any advice you can give me.

Hi tink,

I'm afraid I don't have a clue about the French rail system , but just wanted to say "Hi", and hope that someone else can help you out soon!

I can't say for sure as I've not used the TGV in the summer, but August is a very busy month in France. All the schools are on holiday and many families will head south from Paris for the annual family vacation. You might want to have a fallback position just in case you can't get seats.

Sorry not to be more help.

Regards

Rob

Thanks for the replies and the hello. Yes I know it is very busy in August. My only hope is that because it is sunday night going south instead of a friday night but I also don't want to be stuck. Thanks again.

Another option would be to fly from CDG to Nice - you may be able to get a cheap ticket. The current Expedia price is £126.
