One major flaw in our system is you could agree with a specific party's politics, but think you're local MP is a complete buffoon that hasn't done anything for his riding in 10 years.
So what happens, most people vote for the party they want/agree with, and they end up with an MP that does almost nothing for his constituents.
It's been said many times that most Canadians don't for FOR a political party, they tend to vote AGAINST the other one!
OR you have avery good MP who works hard for his constituency but belongs to a party whose policies and approach you seriously disagree with. I agree that this is a big problem with our system.
This is similar to what has happened for me in our riding, although our MP is with my second choice party. I voted for the MP last election because I felt he had the best chance of beating the Cons and it turned out I was right. He has been a great MP and although I wish he was with a different party, I had no problem voting for him again. (I voted on Saturday) It also helps that I live right across the street from him!

I agree with most people here, it is likely that we will have a Liberal minority and my greatest hope is that this will get the Liberals and the NDPs to talk coalition or even better, merging. We have a bit of a problem in Canada right now, at least I think it is a problem. We have one party on the right and three on the left. The Cons did this back in 2003 when the Canadian Alliance merged with the Progressive Conservatives to form the current Conservative Party of Canada.

Agree with his party or not, this might be the best election ad I have ever seen.
