Ok.. so I just got back from Disney yesterday.

While on the way to FL, I stopped at a TD Banknorth in Maine and withdrew 100$ US. The cost on my bank statement is 110.03$. WOW.. and no foreign ATM charges since I am a TD Canada customer. Wild!

And then on the way back.. the dollar had climbed even further. I withdrew just 20$ and the amount on my statement was 21.87$

Lastly .. I paid for my hotel stuff.. 295$ US was just 327$ last week. I love it!

Yes, but while I'm happy that the cost of my trip is going doing everyday, it's not all good news. Many companies are impacted by the strong dollar: it makes selling harder because of increased prices, or margin lower because products sold in USD brings less money to pay the employees in CAD.

In my workplace it make a difference, but because the market is strong (telecoms), it's still OK. But I know it makes it especially harder at my boyfriend's company, it's small, their market suffers a lot already from Asian competition and the car production going down, so getting US contracts is very hard nowadays, and the Canadian market is small. I know it's only a company, and they have no feelings for us (actually not true, when you're only 15 employees), but it's the money we get paid that enables us to take those wonderful trips :)

Well I didn't want to ramble that much, but just wanted to say that the dollar increase is bittersweet in a global context.

*They* are predicting we will see an at par dollar by the end of the summer - wouldn't doubt it with the way it's going right now. Great for us travellers but sure will hurt the buisness sectors!

Have to agree that it's bittersweet! Love seeing the exchange for our Disney trips, but the company I work for trades in the U.S. and so are losing quite a bit of money these days. My DS is working in Epcot. He was kind of hoping that his U.S. dollars would be worth a lot more when he gets home next year.;)

Really sucks for the film industry! Those Americans just aren't coming up by the droves to make their movies. I guess that's why Arnie came up recently. His hate on for runaway production must be lessening.

nah... he stil hates us, he came on an environmental tour.

I'm happy for all the travellers, but I feel bad for all the people who are going to get laid off and lose their jobs when foreign businesses say Canada is too expensive for them...

Bought US yesterday at 1.07.

Haven't seen that in quite a while.

It great to be able to upgrade my trips!

The bank was giving employees a rate of $1.06 today :)

On the flip side, it makes things a little easier for lower budget Canadian productions to negotiate for equipment and crew (if they're non-union). So maybe that will encourage more Canadian projects\.
