So we went to the grand re-opening of the West Edmonton Mall Disney Store today and the store looks quite good, very similar to the US counterparts. The top area is just decorated with silouhette murals, cool but not quite as nice as the animations you see at many US locations. I'm not a fan of the new entry, it's a pretty standard run-of-the-mill doorway whereas the old location was shaped like Mickey. Still, it's nice to see better shelving and displays, many of the shelve double as play areas which is kind of cool.

What is NOT cool is the pricing. :scared1:

I expect to pay more for stuff here in Canada. Even though our dollar is worth more, our overhead is more and our taxes are higher. However, the price tags on some of the dresses were: "$24.95 US, $35.95 CAN" :scared1::scared1::scared1::scared1:

50% MORE!!

And that's an average price difference from all the items I checked.

That's pretty ridiculous! Looks like we'll be waiting for trips south of the border to buy things unless they bring their pricing more inline.

Exceptionally LAME pricing when our dollar is sitting better than the US dollar. It should be at PAR. IMO.

Besides how much of the stuff is made IN the US? Isn't is all made in China?

I totally agree Designer dolls 59.50 usd 74.50 cad, mugs 10.50 usd 14.50 cad!!!! OUTRAGEOUS

Are there any US Disney Stores close to the border? We used to go to the one in the Walden Galleria but now it's gone, so wondering if there are anymore close by even in other border cities like Detroit or popular shopping areas like Grove City PA?

Its horrible thats why I stopped shopping at the Disney store especially when you can get disney items at stores like Walmart for a fraction of the cost. In the spring we went looking for bathing suits - they we're $34.50 at the Disney store at Walmart an almost identical suit was $14! If theres something that I can only find at the disney store I have SIL in Michigan pick it up for me at a fraction of what it would cost in Canada.

I have the girls who work at my local Walmart (only have one since it's a smaller city) in the girls clothing area on the lookout for Disney stuff. The studio I manage is located INside the walmart so it's very convenient! lol When they get Disney items they tell me so I have first pick over the racks! lol I have no other choice since the Disney store closed in Winnipeg (and then I ONLY bought clothing items on clearance!) and the nearest one is 8 hrs away in Minneapolis!

There aren't any Disney stores in my city or nearby either that I'm aware of. I stock up on Disney stuff in the US when I go shopping. Although my kids are much older now so they don't want the toys or stuffed animals. And they're teens, so buying them clothes is a chore! Thankfully they both like Jack Skellington so I buy them mugs, travel mugs and my son his collectibles there. The Disney Store in Times Square is nothing short of amazing too!

All the Disney stores in my city closed a while ago, so not really an issue for me. But, if you feel really strongly about it, write the Minister of Industry Canada and identify this Disney store in particular as having an offensive price differential, especially given the strength of the Canadian dollar. I understand this issue is on the agenda for the federal government.
