Hi All

Recently back from a trip to Walt Disney world. Took the SSR tour when we were down there, and fell in love with the place. Love DD and the area for walking/relaxing. Hate making decisions like this, SO BIG. What is the final push I need, I know the price is increasing in a little over a week. HELP!!

I am also Canadian and just purchased a DVC membership at SSR. Don't hesitate the purchase.

1-) When I purchased they were only charging $91 a point and pushed back my use year to June of 2005, which allowed me to carry my 2005 points over to 2006 and I now have double the points for 2006, I purchased in November.

2-) Our current exchange rate is higher and makes it more cost effective to exchange our dollar now. One point though, do not charge to your credit card as your will pay a premium on the exchange rate. Set up a line of credit or loan here and pay by certified check if you do not have the cash.

3-)I am not sure but I was told by my account that there would be a tax advantage for owning the property as it was a foreign investment with service fees. He was unsure but is checking in on it.

4-) Points are going up in value and travel expensives will appreciate in cost over the next few years, so the earlier the better.

5-) If you do decide to purchase try and ask for a better deal than what they are offering. You just never know what they may or may not do to gain your business.

We live in NB and bought into SSR in Nov for 200 points.

The comment about the Credit card isn't actually true. We got the bank rate on your purchase and we put the whole thing on our Aerogold Visa for the points.

Buy now before the dollar starts to suck again! Luckily we bought it when it was cheaper at $83 per point. We would be kicking ourselves if we hadn't!

I think the interest rate premium depends on your credit card. I called my Mastercard and they confirmed that there was a 2.5% premium but I did get the points. I found the difference between the points and the exchange rate wasn't better so I paid by check. I do know that some credit cards charge equal exchange rates and also give points, which would be the best scenario. I just got a new gold card and they are offering me 6 months no interest on any transfers. So I can purchase points through Disney and then transfer the balance to my card and get 6 months no interest. Just pay off or transfer your balnce before the 6 months are up Another option to look at.

While the price is increasing, you should also consider whether you want to make the big commitment (minimum 150 point purchase) or move into it more gradually (buying a smaller contract through resale). There have been lots of discussions on these points on this forum and the Canadian Trip Planning & Community forum.

You also don't mention where you are from, but in Canada, only residents of Ontario can buy directly from Disney (unless you are actually onsite when you make your purchase). Search the forums here and on the Canadian Board and I think you will get a lot of useful information to help in your decision (I know we did :thumbsup2 )
