Canadian cell phones

Just returned from 10 days in Disney. Here is what I did and it cost me less than $ 12 cad. If your phone supports esims, install the Airalo app and purchase a U.S. plan prior to departure. I chose the 2gb plan for two weeks and used almost all of the data in the plan. I used Disney wifi everywhere except when trying to get the vq’s. Super impressed with this app which uses T-Mobile or Verizon, just be sure to not let your browser use cell data since that burns down your limit quick. One you land in Orlando simply enable your esim and turn off roaming etc on your main sim.

I haven't seen it posted here but Public Mobile (Telus owned uses Bells towers in Ontario->East) is currently running it's boxing day sales to match Freedom, the two ones of mostinterest would be:
  1. $29/month with 20GB Canada/US/Mexico data included
  2. $35/month with 75GB Canada/US/Mexico data and 1000 international long distance minutes included.
Hopefully someone finds them useful.

On Telus which has terrible roaming plans (in my opinion), so Airalo is the way. This passed year I bought a global esim that's good for 365 days. So far I've gotten 5 trips spanning 6 weeks or so for $60. I still have 5gb left and will get another couple of trips out of it. I try to use wifi to preserve the data but it's nice to have it when away from wifi.

Another vote for Airalo esim. WIFI has gotten better, but there are still dead zones here and there. My husband tethers to my phone with the esim and we can share the data as well.

I have the Public Mobile $35 plan. It works great in the US. When I travel outside North America I use Airalo. PM does not work (at all) outside NA …but has yet to be an issue for me. I never do calls, and can still use iMessage.

We used Airlo on our Telus iPhones. The only downside was not being able to use tik tok. We used the text now app if we wanted to make a call. It’s such a savings for a long trip.

Another vote for eSims. Getting an international plan from my home provider (Telus) was significantly more expensive. I used Maya for my last trip and it was quite easy/user friendly. I've also used TMobile esim before but had more issues with the install

For my Quebec DIS'ers, the ALL-INCLUSIVE CAN.&US- 100 GB phone plan is the best plan you can get with Videotron. I've been a Videotron customer since 2017 & i never have to worry with my plan because it includes 100 gigs of data that is both freely useable in Canada & USA. All for 63$ CAD. I was hoping my bill coming back from 10 days in Orlando was going to be disgustingly expensive with the amount of data i used, but nope, only 6$ more!

If you have Koodo, they offered unlimited US roaming last fall for the same price I was already paying plus a little more data. FINALLY after all these years of paying for roaming.....and now our future US plans are up in the air because of the state of the world. 🤦‍♀️

My phone is older and doesn't support esim. I've used Jethro Mobile successfully on 2 trips now. It's a physical sim card, and I think it cost me around $35 for 2 weeks. My son in law bought his from Amazon and got a 5% discount, but I thought the price was good.
