Canadian Buffoon's Disney With a Teen Vacation - 08/13 - The Wrap

Gotta get supper going, more shout-outs later!

Happy New Year! Hope you had fun.

Happy New Year to you too!

It was a pretty laid back NYE, except for the dog freaking out.
New Years day was more fun.
Well, I had to work from 6:30am - 2:30pm,
and again at 10:30pm - 6:45am Jan 2nd.
But in between that.
Went saw Star Wars then over to my folk's place
for Chinese food.

Both ways? Is this where you worked?

As a matter of fact, I've loved M. C. Escher since high school.

Well I've realized that if I guess the opposite of whatever I would do I'm right more often, so I do know you!

Wait. Is that the opposite of what you meant to say?

YAY she could be just like Gloria on Modern Family. The episode where she wore stilettos to Disneyland was hilarious!!

::yes:: Saw that!

Yeah, just keep telling yourself that :) Because that's what most 15 years olds do.

Oh, good. Phew! I'm relieved!

We could hang out in the store in Japan buying stuffed animals and eating nutella from a jar.

She'd love that. I'm not a fan, but she loves Nutella.

Well I didn't know that you liked wearing women's clothes. Now that I know that you'll most likely be invited to the next party. Don't forget the Alice wig and a cute ruffly dress.

Time and place and I'm there.

Oh I know, I still get shocked when the bill comes in under the door on the last day. I hate the magical express papers more though.

::yes::

He had a coffee shop he kept them in. We thought it was just a cover though and that he was actually a drug lord.

Interesting. What made you think that?
More money coming in than could be explained?

Haa haa!!! I had to write that because whenever someone is late my Mom always says "can you email them to see where they are?" instead of texting them.

 Well, unfortunately, my phone doesn't work in foreign countries,
so email was our only option.

Well yes, now that you took away her awesome trip to New York, I'm sure of that. She probably had it all planned out in her head. The places she wanted to shop and eat, the bands she wanted to see, bands who never play where she lives. Now she gets to go see a moose instead. And not even the cool moose from Walley World. Just a regular stinky one.

She'll get over it. Or stay with her grandparents.
I'm okay with it either or.

here they are... you need these for your Haunted Mansion room.

Nice. Had not noticed those.

Yes, I thoroughly enjoyed it. It was my favorite birthday present before I got a bunch of money.:rotfl:

Well, okay. I suppose cash does trump all.

If you give me birthday points I'll move it back up to my favourite spot again.

Although as soon as you give out 40 points to the person who guessed your bus wait time, the rankings become irrelevant. 40 would take almost anyone to the top.

Maybe. Maybe not.
Depends who gets the points.

You're lying, you're actually a psychology student and this trip report is one of your projects. You're hoping to turn it all into a reality show one day.

"Ladies and gentlemen! Presenting the most boring reality show in history!
The adventures of Dull-boy! and Binkie the Wonder Dog."

Because I'm pure evil and now I can add "stealing toys" to my long list.

And no one was in the least bit surprised.

So we went out for dinner on New Years. My entree came with some sides, including brussels sprouts. They were cooked in pure syrup so they tasted mostly sweet. Underneath that I could tell they were pure poison. I can see how you would have hated them. I took the last two and threw them under the table, just for you.
Imitation vaguely resembles flattery doesn't it? I had to do something different because just like they guys, I don't do "dearest, sweetie or darling"...

Thanks. I appreciate that.
Pictures or it didn't happen.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

Happy New Year to you too!

I can't believe it's 2016! I've been waiting for this for what seems like soooo long. 2016 marks the BIG ONE and the year for Disney. ::MickeyMo
Still afraid where all the money will come from. But I'm determined to be there Oct 12 for anniversary even if it's a shorter stay then hoped for.

Even a short stay is awesome.
Plan it right and it can be great.
My last few trips there have all been short.
Make the most of it and go!

Hope you had a wonderful holiday spoiling your girls and a good time off.

Not bad, not bad at all.
Panic mixed with mad baking/cooking mixed with relaxation.

I enjoyed the bonus Xmas eve day off. Even if I didn't earn extra pay like planned. But it all worked out in the end. Told husband I didn't have to work, maybe we could go get the gift cert. we thought about for parents. He reminded me he had hair appointment (FYI-for what little hair he has. was thin when I married him. hair doesn't make a man. You get it-right?)

Oh, yes. Unfortunately, yes I do.

I was schedule to work @2:00am so anything after that was sleeping in. So we decided to leave around 5am for a less then hour drive to....Don't judge...a casino!

Not judging at all. I've been meaning to take Elle to one
now that she's 18 and legal here.

Got there at 5:40 and hardly anyone there. We didn't have much time to play, but since was there we would. They had a promo going on and at 6:00 (20min after getting there), my name was called!! I won $250.

No way! That's awesome!! Two hundred and fifty smackers!

Guess not working turned out fine.

No kidding!

After hair, got last minute things done and for once was rather relaxed going into Christmas Day.

Nice.

Then back to the craziness of work. You'd think it would slow down after holiday but it hasn't. I could clue you in on job(don't want any haters/complains out there) I sort letters and packages for the US. Couldn't believe how much we had just yesterday 1/2/16 so many parcels and lots of on-line ordering still going on.

I believe that. Post Christmas sales all over the place.

That's extra. Guess you didn't read the fine print

Whoops! No, I didn't.
Just assumed.

Hi Mr Pkondz SR. How was the brussels sprouts today?

And day my dad has those evil orbs is a good day.

There's points! Food looks yummy. I'd like to try something like that don't know what hubby would think

You guys should go. The food is hardly "Japanese".
More like any steak house you might go to.
Except it's cooked in front of you on a griddle.

I kind of get it. Let's say that I've spent a couple of days looking over TR because I know you meantioned someone doing this. Actually thought it was Steppsister(not her) when she went to a similar restaurant but really didn't find it there. The only thing I found was on your solo trip page 13 near the end was the following:
Thumperman's wife guess Teppan Edo
You responded with: I have you down for one Burnt Nebo special
All I know is that Nebo was like a mentor to you and was popular here on the DIS. (plan on going back and maybe reading some of his) Sounded like he had little trouble with the hot surface.
I swear someone made a comment about it before. One of the reason I didn't comment yet because I thought I'd find more info.

Hmmm... I think I'll put you down as not really knowing.
But yes, you are correct.
I'll have a bit more to say in the update.

Really?! I didn't guess because it didn't meet your shaved ice standards. But I forgot about heat. Do what you got to do.

It was really more for Kay.
Although if I'd been by myself,
I might have had one anyway.
Not as good as Oahu.
But not terrible, either.

Dang! For some reason the first face character I thought of was Mulan. Thought since you were at TE you might run into her. Later I went Duh, Mulan is China!

 Whoops!
Is there any character in Japan?
I think no, but could be wrong.

That one was easy. If you didn't offer Kay to try one of the sugary treats that would have been bad parenting. And you can't be accused of that since you already have her at Disney

Yep. A Disney trip without a cronut
just wouldn't be worth doing.

I'm sure they weren't dumbing.

:lmao:

Nothing changes what you want to do then sore feet

It certainly made us change our plans.

That was nice. Maybe she didn't want you to look like the lonely dad with nothing to do in the corner. Or figured she could beat you on something and never let you live it down.

 Never thought about that last one!

Yes I do.

::yes::

Too cool!!:cool1: Always enjoy your photography skills. Makes me want to stay there just to walk around at night

Thanks! :goodvibes

I'm sure she was worried. or bored. We worry about them so much, nice to see the foot on the other shoe once in a while.

Yeah. Sweat it out kid!

That's what I feel when my kids tell me to drive safe when going to work in bad weather It's a awww moment.

Awwww...

Let see if I can gain some points back
Guesses: AM come on you can sleep on the plane
Via Napoli
Living with the Land
Test track
3 fast passes because you schedule late enough to use them all

Noted.

Something to look forward to this week - your next post!! Not looking forward to is your trip is coming to an end. Can you make this stretch till maybe March (a birthday present for me). By then you could start your Hawaii one:)

I don't think that's going to happen.
I was looking over my notes and the most
I can stretch this is two more updates.

I'm not planning on doing a Hawaii TR,
since I've already done one.

So, funny thing. I just went to comment on your response to me and all of these other comments that I'd copied from your report showed up. Does the DIS edit them out if you try to quote too many messages in a post?:confused3

Anyway, here are some other things I copied to comment on. Hope you don't mind.... :rolleyes1

(De plane! De plane! <ding> <ding>...
and you probably have no idea what I'm talking about.)

Fantasy Island?

But to her credit, she picked up a phone, called the crew at the Orlando departure gate
and told them that there were passengers (me) coming and to keep an eye out for them.

Keep an eye out but not hold the plan on the runway for your imminent arrival? :sad2:

Customs agent: "Are you constipated?"
Me: "No that's just my "serious" face."
Customs agent: "You should change it."

eclipse_zpsubkipao8.jpg

Wow! Is that your photo?

Ruby carefully pulls out the overflowing dish of butter...
and promptly spills most of it on the counter, the cupboards...
and the dog.

Sounds exactly like something I would do. I'm a pretty good home cook but I'm a huge klutz. ::yes::

We told the CM at the desk that we were early and she told us
to take a seat and we'd be called soon.
There was a water dispenser there.

I think I'll have to map out the water dispensers in preparation for our August trip.

I had the Peanut Butter & Jelly milkshake.
Heaven in a metal cup!

Sounds so good. I don't really want to eat at Prime Time again. Do you happen to know if they do them to-go?

"Here's your birthday song,
it's not very long..."

She then petted the girl on her head, got up and walked away! :lmao:

:rotfl2:Cute.

Hey! It's free! Of course we're going to have....
uh.... no.
We were stuffed!
We passed on dessert.

What? They don't count the shakes as dessert?

"Hi! My daughter's thighs are chafing. Do you have any body glide or similar?"

Smooth.

They didn't have any body glide...
but they did have some diaper rash cream.

I heard deodorant also works - from my friend who lives in FL.

Luckily, I don't think we encountered any until... well...
You'll just have to wait and see.

Ooh, intriguing. Can't wait to hear.

I like that "most of the time".

Even the occasional $100 bottle isn't that great.

So would that prevent you from going on a ride like Splash,
where you might see an animatronic squirrel?
No. But I wouldn't go on a ride that featured actual squirrels. Obviously she thought ToT featured actual ghosts. :rotfl::rotfl2:

Bonus questions, round 9!

1. AM or PM? Do we get out of our room in the morning or afternoon?

2. We have an ADR... in Epcot. Third time's the charm? Where is it?
(Hint: Not Biergarten or Teppan Edo)

3. Speaking of Epcot, what's our first ride?
(Hint: Think outside the box.)

4. Of our three Epcot FPs...
a. Which Tier one FP? Soarin', Test Track or The Land?
b. Do we use 0, 1, 2 or all 3 of our FPs?

1. I am guessing and hoping AM... time is running out I would freak out if I wasnt maximizing every second of my time while down there.
2. I'm going to guess Garden Grill just because it is my DD5's favorite restaurant in the World.
3. Sum of all thrills.
4. a) Soarin. b) 1

Bummed I missed entries from the previous update but glad I'm able to sneak in at the last second to get this round in.

So, funny thing. I just went to comment on your response to me and all of these other comments that I'd copied from your report showed up. Does the DIS edit them out if you try to quote too many messages in a post?:confused3

Huh. I don't know why it did that.
Never happened to me before. :confused3

Anyway, here are some other things I copied to comment on. Hope you don't mind.... :rolleyes1

I don't mind at all.
It's like a little trip down (recent) memory lane.

Plus it's earning you a ton of points.

Fantasy Island?

Bingo.

Keep an eye out but not hold the plan on the runway for your imminent arrival? :sad2:

Well.... it worked out in the end.

Wow! Is that your photo?

Yes it is.
And thank you for not being angry that I used that as a real life update.

Sounds exactly like something I would do. I'm a pretty good home cook but I'm a huge klutz. ::yes::

You two should meet!
But not in a kitchen.

I think I'll have to map out the water dispensers in preparation for our August trip.

You do know that you can get a free glass of water
at every quick service booth, right?

Sounds so good. I don't really want to eat at Prime Time again. Do you happen to know if they do them to-go?

No, sorry. I don't know.
I doubt it though.
But it wouldn't hurt to walk up if you're in the area
and ask.

What? They don't count the shakes as dessert?

Nope! Still counted as a beverage.

Call me Mr. Smooth.

I heard deodorant also works - from my friend who lives in FL.

I think someone else mentioned that too.

Ooh, intriguing. Can't wait to hear.

Not the next update, but the one after.

Even the occasional $100 bottle isn't that great.

Give me a really expensive bottle of red wine...
and I'll pass on it. Thanks.

No. But I wouldn't go on a ride that featured actual squirrels.

Just out of curiosity...
Do Chip & Dale bother you at all?
(And yes I know they're chipmunks.)

Obviously she thought ToT featured actual ghosts. :rotfl::rotfl2:

Sure. Makes sense. You think that's theming?
It's reality!

1. I am guessing and hoping AM... time is running out I would freak out if I wasnt maximizing every second of my time while down there.
2. I'm going to guess Garden Grill just because it is my DD5's favorite restaurant in the World.
3. Sum of all thrills.
4. a) Soarin. b) 1

Noted.

Bummed I missed entries from the previous update but glad I'm able to sneak in at the last second to get this round in.

Where were ya?

Hello!! Ok...I know I am WAAAYYYYY late to the party, but I am loving this trip report!!

(Admittedly it could be from the meds I'm on for the ruptured Achilles I'm dealing with... But hey!)

We must be of the same generation, because I, too love myself some Galaga and played in the arcade at the Pop while we were there in June. I must confess that I also waxed nostalgic at the 80's decade collage in the lobby; I mean Trivial Pursuit AND an Apple//e?!?!

I can't wait to hear about your last day with your daughter. It's been a joy reading your updates. Thanks for the effort and the fantastic photos!

You do know that you can get a free glass of water
at every quick service booth, right?

I learned that for our last trip but those self-serve dispensers are nice because you don't have to wait in line.

Just out of curiosity...
Do Chip & Dale bother you at all?
(And yes I know they're chipmunks.)

Nope. Since, you know, not real.

And, why yes, as a matter of fact,
we are going to Maui in just under two months.
:jumping1: How exciting!!! Maybe a hop skip and a jump over to Aulani???

Okay. For a second, I did selfishly think:
"Solo trip to the World in February again!!"
Yeah, that would have crossed my mind as well :rotfl2:

Quick? Geez, yes!
But better than not going at all I think
Absolutely!!

I've been trying to find a place to stay,
and that ain't easy!
Prices are all over the map from expensive to
Good-Lord-that's-crazy! expensive.
True Story. My cousin's husband is in the Army and have been stationed in Hawaii for the last 3 years and the two things I take away from it are EVERYTHING is expensive and traffic is horrendous.

Five minutes later, at 2:39 another one pulled up.
Five minutes! Five!!
Disney will be receiving a very sternly worded letter.
Let me assure you! :snooty:
BLASPHEMY!

Kay's feet were starting to bother her,
so I told her we could take the boat again.

What?
Well, of course there was one waiting for us.
Sheesh! Did you really think there wouldn't be?
:sad2:
They were trying to make up for that monorail fiasco!

We exited our little oasis, climbed a flight of stairs
and checked in at Teppan Edo for our ADR.
:lovestruc LOVE Teppan Edo!

We really enjoyed watching him.
I don't have anyone else to compare him to,
but he seemed pretty fun to us.
In my experiences they are always entertaining! Our last chef told us he was from Pensacola, Japan...

I did not... repeat NOT, touch the cooking surface with my finger.
(I'm curious. Let me know if you get (or don't get) that reference.
Bonus points whether you do or don't get it. I just wanna know.)
:confused3

Another of Kay's favourite things.
Noodles.
I swear, the kid could live off that and nothing else.
Ugh, a girl after my own heart. I could live off of noodles and potatoes.

I had the Filet Mignon while Kay had the scallops.
This is what my husband and I got last year and we shared :goodvibes

Nine of you celebrating.
Eighteen... not so much.
:headache:

Most of you guessed we'd have a cronut.
Well, of course we did!
Do you think I'm nuts?
I still have yet to have one of these. it is on my MUST HAVE list for our next trip!

I was more than happy to go down to the arcade with her.
100 credits! We'd be able to play every game and spend
a couple of hours there!

Yeah.... no.
Apparently 100 credits is like a couple of tokens.
And only the most boring games take just one token.
Anything that you might want to play takes three or four.
Did you expect anything less at Disney?

There was an old-school video game sitting in the corner.
Un-used and sneered at by the younger generation.
If you've been around as long (or longer) than I have
you might be familiar with a game called Galaga.
It used to be one of my favourite games.
This is back when dinosaurs roamed the arcades,
you understand.
I've heard old folk-tales about this game. I'm not convinced it truely exists as I've never seen one in real life.

Since it was where we stayed on my first real trip to Disney I always consider Pop "home". Your photos are wonderful! Makes me miss that place. Expecially since this year is the first time were trying out a different resort. I'm excited to venture into the world of Mod's though!

1. AM or PM? Do we get out of our room in the morning or afternoon? I'm gonna say PM because of packing up.

2. We have an ADR... in Epcot. Third time's the charm? Where is it? San Angel Inn... but since I guessed Rose & Crown twice already and was wrong, that may very well be the anser this time lol

3. Speaking of Epcot, what's our first ride? Sum of All Thrills

4. Of our three Epcot FPs...
a. Which Tier one FP? Soarin', Test Track or The Land? Soarin'
b. Do we use 0, 1, 2 or all 3 of our FPs? Just one.

Hello!! Ok...I know I am WAAAYYYYY late to the party, but I am loving this trip report!!

Hello! And :welcome: to the TR!
I'd much rather someone come in late
and say "Hi" than not at all.

(Admittedly it could be from the meds I'm on for the ruptured Achilles I'm dealing with... But hey!)

Ouch! How did you manage to do that?!?!?
(If it's running from a shark, I totally understand.)

We must be of the same generation, because I, too love myself some Galaga and played in the arcade at the Pop while we were there in June.

We might be. But emotionally I'm only 6 or so.

I must confess that I also waxed nostalgic at the 80's decade collage in the lobby; I mean Trivial Pursuit AND an Apple//e?!?!

That's one of my regrets
(or as they like to spell it on tattoos: "regerts")
from this past trip.
I wanted to take some time and explore
(and photograph) the lobby.
Never happened.
I did go in there on the night I was shooting.
But by then I'd had enough and it was getting late.

I can't wait to hear about your last day with your daughter.

Coming up later today!

It's been a joy reading your updates. Thanks for the effort and the fantastic photos!

Why thank you! :goodvibes
