Canadian Buffoon's Disney With a Teen Vacation - 08/13 - The Wrap

There is a growing DISMeet coming together for October, 2016 when I go to celebrate my graduation from Nursing School. We'd LOVE to you have you join us!! :) Think about it! 10-20th

Just out of curiosity, who've you got penned in for that so far, Liesa?

I whole-heartedly agree!!! Yes, YES, I do!

By the way, I would say we MUST get together, but I'm not sure how far away you live. I have 3 short weeks to do a crap-ton of stuff before I hit the road running again. If you're close, maybe we should get a little soire going.... I'm in Salem.

I'm late to this party, and have only read the first entry so far, but I can already tell it's going to be great!

You mention the WestJet Mastercard - do you love it? I've been thinking about switching over...although my $99 companion flight would be used for flying to the Maritimes (I live in western Canada, all of my family is in the Maritimes - and it costs more to fly there then it's costing me to fly to Orlando. sigh.)

I can't wait to get caught up on this trip report, I love your humour!

So Ruby's done with her meetings at about 3:00
but our flight out isn't til 8:00pm.
We decide to grab a bite and then
make our way to the airport
arriving around 5:00pm.

We're told our flight was cancelled
but since we're so early they can put us on the six o'clock flight.

Sure!

I swear I've got a horseshoe up someplace.

And fallonkendra I see your post
and will comment when we get back
and I have my laptop again.

Picture a cloudless night with a really bright moon.
That sounds like that would be cool. We have no windows where I work. Need to peek out door
After that I'm on leave until after Christmas. Woot!
Good for you! :santa: Hope you enjoy them! There's no vacations allowed in Dec (vacation board only goes till end of Nov). A few years ago they allowed ONE person off Dec 24th-Jan 2nd based on seniority. So most years the ONLY day I get off is Holiday. And back @ 4AM the next day. But this year since Xmas is on Friday and everyone ahead of me have Saturday off they don't need the 26th as a vacation day and I got it! Part of my 40 hours is every Saturday, my days off are FR/SUN. Now I can stay up late and do whatever I want:cool1:
That's why I'll blackmail you for much less than someone I didn't like.
Thanks for the discount:rotfl2:
I really made a difference for a patient, and that made me feel really great
You should feel great Liesa! Way to go!:cheer2:
Lots of action planned and being planned. Something for everyone from shows to parks, bars to meals....
Don't forget, I'm following your PTR. We'll be there Oct8-22. Depending on the event, I'd love to say:wave:Hi! As long as it's not on actual anniversary, husband can't complain:laughing: Also wondering, is the Kathy the same as KatMark?

Good! I like when souvenirs are actually used for something other than just collecting dust.

Me too!! I also have a belle cup from le fous brew I use, and my son has the gaston one.

 Okay, deal!
(I've actually had cole slaw at two different restaurants last couple of days.)

haha! my sister got me some Brussel sprouts yesterday! lol that's funny!

I suppose.
I'm still here and she's not, so...
...true words....

Several of you commented on my infinite patience that day.
How I was able to stay in our room until mid-afternoon,
with all that Disney has to offer just outside.

Having been to WDW on a fairly frequent basis, I totally understood what you mean about not needing to pushpushpush to get as much done as humanly possible. I like to think it's a more civilized way to tour. Also much more expensive. Hopefully in a few months my years of counting all my pennies and stalking the internet trying to find cheap flights will be over. It's looking like I may move to FL in either March or April. I just hope when I get there I won't have spent so much $$$ on the move that I can't afford to buy a FL resident annual pass!!

However.
And brace yourselves... I'm going to shock you all...
For me, Brussels Sprouts and Disney are inexorably linked.

"What?" You exclaim in astonishment. "How can this be!?!?"
(Say you're astonished (feel free to paraphrase) and get free bonus points!)

I was so astonished that I forgot about how falling out of chairs leads to broken hips! At the last possible instant my brave, heroic little cat did her usual Leap of Faith onto my lap (and my laptop), pushing me back into the chair and saving my aged bones from snapping at the hip!!

Too much?? Ok, keep them stupid bonus points. I don't need no stinkin' bonus points!

It's true about the Leap of Faith, though. When she wants in my lap it wouldn't matter if I had a four course meal set up there. She just launches herself and assumes it's all gonna work out in the end, and maybe she'll even get a nice piece of chicken!

My cat. My loyal, loving cat...
Had thrown me under the proverbial bus.
She had obviously found it under the couch and played with it.
Batting it about until it rolled under the TV and she got bored.
(In retrospect, I am pleased that someone or something if you prefer,
got some enjoyment out of the blasted thing.)

Great story, nice Disney tie-in, and you got ingenuity points from the folks, which is always a good thing.

Pop waffles.

Now usually when I have waffles,
I like them with some fruit, a gob of honey and lots of whipped cream.
You know. Healthy.
So were they good?
Well, considering it was my first real breakfast at Disney....
Uh.... possibly ever... Yeah. They were good.

I didn't know Pop waffles are a thing--I've only ever had the Mickey version. But, hey, no matter what the shape is they're always delicious! And don't forget, calories don't count at Disney. Either that or all the walking balances them out!

When we'd finished dining, we headed out to the bus stop.
We arrived at the bus stop at 11:12am.
A bus was there waiting for us.
Which led to the Kay quip of the trip.
"You know." She said. "The VIP bus package really is a must."

This is THE BEST QUOTE EVER. You're very witty, pkondz, but I have a feeling this little girl is gonna leave you in the dust...

And she's right about the VIP package, of course. Once when we had it they sent one of the big Magical Express buses with the plush seats to MK just to take the 2 of us to Old Key West for our midday break!

Doesn't it look like it's glowing?
It should. It's the holy of holies of beverages, ya know.
And for the uninitiated...
Do not get a simple Dole Whip.
No, no, no, no.
You have to get a Dole Whip float.
Makes all the difference.

I've had Dole Whip, but never tried the float. You kinda talked me into it because, you're right, that thing is gorgeous!!

My guesses:
1. 4 minutes
2. Teppan Edo
3. Cronuts, ice cream/sorbet from L'Artisan des Glaces
4. Test Track
5. Alice

I do know that in the space of 7 days I worked 9 eight hour shifts.

And I'm still recovering....
Sucks getting old.

Wow, no kidding. But I think that kind of schedule would exhaust anybody!

You should feel great Liesa! Way to go!:cheer2:

It's nice to know that someone can breathe a little (or in this case a LOT) easier because of what I saw and more importantly did something about.

Don't forget, I'm following your PTR. We'll be there Oct8-22. Depending on the event, I'd love to say:wave:Hi! As long as it's not on actual anniversary, husband can't complain:laughing: Also wondering, is the Kathy the same as KatMark?

HOLY Horchata Ritas! You'll be there the entire time and MORE. Lucky YOU! So yes, we have several events/DISMeet things planned mostly revolving around the weekend 14th-16th. Details are embedded in my PTR, but we'll send out more "official" stuff as things get closer as to when and where and my phone numbers and stuff...

Yes, the same Kathy. She's a HOOT!! I really hope it does indeed work out for her to come over for a bit.

Hope you have a safe flight. You sure are lucky!
My mom couldn't find the twin day picture, but she sent me some others.
image.jpeg image.jpeg image.jpeg
These pictures don't even come close to showing her beautiful blue eyes. I included one of my dad too from my uncle's wedding. Oh, in case you forgot, I'm the blonde.

Sorry it's taken me so long to reply, work has been kickin' my bootie this Month!

Either way. She woke up. So it's all good.

Yea for waking up!!

Pop waffles.

Those look super yummy

I like them with some fruit, a gob of honey and lots of whipped cream.
You know. Healthy.

We can totally have a breakfast date then, since we ARE dating and all....

Why is that sign showing a hand pointing...
WITH ONLY ONE FINGER?!?!?

The nerve of that one finger pointing sign! how rude!

But admittedly, I didn't know what "waffle fries" were.

do you mean do tell me they don't have waffle fries in the frozen north?

I'd like to say she loved it, but...
Well, this is a Disney TR, not a Disney movie.
She didn't.
She liked the foam a bit, I think.
But wasn't a fan of the liquid part of the drink.

Still on my "must try at least once" list

Hey look at that! I'm gaining ground!

cinderkelly - 3, Pop waffles, no, a, concorde - 10+4=14 points

14 points, wahoo! :cheer2:

Bonus questions, round 8!

1. How long until the next monorail?
at the rate you're going I'd say the monorail was a walk on, since you have the VIP transport package and all

2. Where's our World Showcase ADR?
(Hint: It's been guessed at least once before.)
Teppan Edo

3. We get some snacks in Epcot! Two of them, each.
What are they?
(ie: pick 2 snacks)
Cronut and frushi

4. We do one ride in FW. Which one?
"Ask the Phoenicians" Spaceship Earth
:)

5. We see one character by happenstance. Any idea who?
(Major hint. Not a princess. But a face character.)
Mulan

I wanted to yap ad nauseum about a few things.

I love a captive audience.

Hey! Where are you going! I'm kidding! Kidding!
I love you guys!!!
(Dang! Close one. Almost lost everyone.)

Well, for the three of you that are still reading...
For the two of you....
For you...

I'm still reading! :wave2:

Her happiest day that trip
was when she stayed at the resort and did laundry.
I'm not kidding.

And you're still married to her...?!?!? (...Just kidding Ruby   )

And finally.
Brussels Sprouts.

:crazy2:

My sister and I would load up our plates, head downstairs,
open up a couple of TV trays,
pull up a couple of chairs and...
Watch the Wonderful World of Disney!
How great is that?!?

This is adorable. I need to find this show online somewhere.

It was simple really, and (in my mind) brilliant.

You ARE brilliant. BELIEVE IN YOURSELF.

Quick as a wink, I'd grab the offending globule and pitch it under the couch.
Problem solved!
I didn't have to eat that... thing. And my parents didn't have to scold me.
Win, win!

I can tell where this is going  did you think it would just disappear into the black hole under your couch..?!?!? :rotfl:

My cat. My loyal, loving cat...
Had thrown me under the proverbial bus.
She had obviously found it under the couch and played with it.
Batting it about until it rolled under the TV and she got bored.

The difference between cats and dogs... My dog would've helped me hide the evidence, even if it involved eating a brussels sprout. Although, he does eat plastic carrier bags and tennis balls too :rotfl:

But to this day...
When I think of Disney.
I think of TV trays, Sunday night dinners and... Brussels sprouts.

I love this story :goodvibes

IMG_0888_zpsdynln9ig.jpg

Pop waffles.

Looks SO good :goodvibes

"You know." She said. "The VIP bus package really is a must."

Where can I get me one of these :confused3  You guys have been spoiled forever!

So my question for you is....
Why is that sign showing a hand pointing...
WITH ONLY ONE FINGER?!?!?

WHAT A RUDE HAND. Not very Disney at all :sad2: It should be fired. Get your stuff from your desk and get outta here, hand.

tumblr_mlaqbei9oG1regpz7o1_500.gif

Hmmm... bit more crowded today...

DSC09640_zpsfgvrsjea.jpg

WOW! Isn't it crazy how quickly the crowds can change?!

As we were passing the Tiki Room, Kay asked "What's that?"
I told her and she remembered it and wanted to go in.
Sure!
So we did.

Can you talk me through the tiki room real quick? I did it years ago as a kid, and I've always loved the tiki tiki tiki tiki tiki room song, but I always decide against it when I'm at MK for the day.
(I've tried watching some youtube videos but they don't really give me the answers I want.)
What I want to know is, is it a seated or standing attraction?
AND
Do you have the option to leave after that first tiki tiki tiki room song?!
I'm not really bothered about the rest of it.
Thanks in advance!

Not one of you told me that Sunshine Tree Terrace and Aloha Isle swapped spots!
I should deduct 100 points from everyone!!

Honestly, you call yourself a Dis-er?!?!

She's adorable.

And for the uninitiated...
Do not get a simple Dole Whip.
No, no, no, no.
You have to get a Dole Whip float.
Makes all the difference.

OH! I always have a regular!!! All I care about is the pineapple ice cream! Why is the float so much better? Aside from obviously having the juice to drink after?

I love this!! They look so good! I saw some of the portraits on the wall in Memento Mori and they're holograms that change between human and ghost as you walk past it, did you get one of these too? Can you pay less and just get a digital version, or are you super smart and made this gif yourself?!

I'd like to say she loved it, but...
Well, this is a Disney TR, not a Disney movie.
She didn't.
She liked the foam a bit, I think.
But wasn't a fan of the liquid part of the drink.

Jamie and I shared one last year and even that was too much for us. I liked the taste but they're SO sweet, we threw a lot of it out. I kinda want to get some of those souvenir mugs though!

"At the Chapeau Hat Shoppe"

She's like "duhhh."
Also, whenever I read the word "shoppe", my brain says "shoppy".

We got to the Hat Shoppe

"We got to the Hat Shoppy"

Disney Transportation Wait Time to date (9 busses, 2 boats): 19 minutes
Average wait time just under 1 3/4 minutes.

This is actually unbelievable.

TheLittleKatie - 70 (-10 pts)

Gahhhh. I want to change my answer but already having -10 is upsetting me.

Ok I want to change it.

To... 26 minutes!

1. How many parks do we hit?
Answer: 2 (2 points)

2. What do I have for breakfast at Pop!
Answer: Pop Waffles (4 points)

3. Does Kay get stuck again at the tapstiles?
Answer: no (2 points)

4. First thing we do after we enter the park.
Multiple choice!
Is it:
a. Take the train at MK?
b. Watch the otters at AK?
c. Ride Nemo at Epcot?
d. Frozen lemonade on Sunset Blvd?
Answer: a. Take the train at MK (4 points)

Oh no! I did not do well.

Flattery points (aka suck-up points)

Why do I not really know about this?!?! Are we supposed to randomly shower you with compliments?!

Ok then.

leslieknope-list-ox.gif

TheLittleKatie - 2 points for the dance down memory lane. 3 points for kin.

Thank you dearest pondzi :goodvibes:goodvibes:goodvibes

Good luck!

Oh lordy. The pressure is on. Here goes.

1. 1 minute!

2. It's been guessed before? By one tiny person in this vast ocean of comments?!?! Ha! No idea. Let's go Via Napoli.

3. Are you making this super difficult on purpose?!?! Jeeeeez. I have never done the dining plan before so I'm not very familiar with what counts as a snack... I just did a quick google search to get some ideas (because I'm THAT dedicated to this wonderful, fun trip report..... flattery points??!) ANYWAY I'll guess ice cream in the France pavilion, and School Bread from Norway :confused3

4. I'll guess Test Track because I don't think you've done it yet? :thumbsup2

5. Alice seems to be out 24/7 so I'll guess her!

I'm very sad this TR is almost over already! Have you got your next Disney trip planned yet?!?!

 You're the only person I know who gets sore at the parks when not
wearing high heels!

Well that was a long time ago, it doesn't happen anymore. After having to chase a one year old around I switched to flats.

Well, I don't know where I'm going to find someone else who farts talcum....

Wait.

You're volunteering?

Ewwwww! No I'm not volunteering for THAT. You'll have to find someone else. Also I don't chaffe. :rotfl:

 Uh.... ah.... um....

Holy smokes, girl. You just made my day.

Awwwww!!! :):):):)

Oh, someone's gonna get herself some bonus points.

Thanks! I really need those since my guesses are usually wrong.

Well, of course.

Look at Steven Tyler. That dude's ugly but (some) girls still go ga-ga over him.
(And I'm talking when he was in his prime!)

So true! I saw a picture once with a not so hot guy posing with his not so hot girlfriend. In the picture next to it, the same guy (unchanged) was holding a guitar and the girlfriend was switched to a much hotter one. The caption under it just said "guitars, it's how they work".

Elle (DD18) has danced competitively for years now.
So I took a season of ballet as a show of support.

That's so cool! She must have loved that. Was it fun?

Wouldn't have minded continuing, but as a shift worker, it just takes too much time.
I found I was missing almost as many classes as I was taking.

What do you do?

(Well, I may have been the only old fart there.
The rest were lovely adult women.)

And you still quit?????

:lmao:

You're welcome!

It was so funny because they were buying them in a non-ironic way. They probably weren't even going to throw them under a couch.

Some day I hope to.
But I don't feel like waiting half an hour (or more) to see him.

That's probably how long we waited... We made several attempts because we kept going back at the wrong time when his line was already closed. We finally caught him at the halloween party.

Oh, Lord. Why do I have a feeling I'm going to regret this?

You can see how much disgusting Disney food you can eat in one sitting. We can all guess and the person who guesses the closest amount before you vomit wins a prize. I guess Pop tart sandwich, turkey leg, then funnel cake with 2 lbs of ice cream on top.

Hi Pkondz

Welll I am lucky I have not been on for a little while busy with chrimbo and all that stuff that goes with it. And I assumed that I would be too late for your next update but there you go just shows you can never assume anything….

  1. Next monorail 7 minutes

  2. Seas with Nemo and friends for the ride

  3. Fish and chips from the UK Snack kiosk, Then school bread from Norway

  4. Mitsukoshi Tokyo dining restaurant for your meal

  5. It has to be Marry Poppins for the character

Unfortunately, we had a very similar thing happen with our oldest DD.
But not for the same reason.
When she was in... hmmm... I don't remember if it was grade 5 or 6.
About that age, anyway.
She had a best friend whose parents were very strict with what she ate.
Her mom would bake bread because she didn't trust store bought bread.
She would freaking weigh her kid after a birthday party if there was cake.

One day, Ruby was doing something in the basement when...
I don't know if she smelled something or just stumbled on it.
But same thing. A whole pile of discarded sandwiches.

When we asked DD about it, the truth came out.
Her "best friend" was picking apart every thing in her lunch.
And basically telling her she shouldn't eat any of it.
She was also telling her she needed to lose weight
(she didn't. she was very fit, actually.)

We were not amused.

I would not have been either.

Good googly-moogly! That's some serious nutty goin' on there.
I'd also have been right irked about that loopyness spilling over into my family.
On the up side, you don't have to foot those forthcoming psychiatric bills.
Dang shame all around.

Hokay.
Back from Ottawa and back on the DIS.
Time to catch up...

Well if I can manage it I think @pkondz obviously has to come as well because I know I've read a number of Canadian Buffoon TRs and now he's to blame for us running back into each other! :)

Oh, sure! I always get the blame for....

Wait. That's a good thing, right?

So far, Marv and Pat, Rosie and her BIG group, Kathy, hopefully MEK and a couple of others still thinking on it. Lots of action planned and being planned. Something for everyone from shows to parks, bars to meals....

ETA: Also Billie is thinking on it (Elevationist) and @DISNEYMOON10121991; you know... all the hip and cool cats. ;)

That's a pretty fair sized gathering.
I can see myself there.... sitting in the corner trying to be invisible.

I whole-heartedly agree!!! Yes, YES, I do!

 Thanks for the ringing endorsement.
IRL I'm a really boring person.

(And now you're thinking "How can he possibly be more boring?!?!?"

I'm late to this party, and have only read the first entry so far, but I can already tell it's going to be great!

Hi there! First off, :welcome: to the TR! :goodvibes

I'm glad you've only read the first entry so far.
I couldn't take much more of me in one sitting either.

You mention the WestJet Mastercard - do you love it? I've been thinking about switching over...although my $99 companion flight would be used for flying to the Maritimes (I live in western Canada, all of my family is in the Maritimes - and it costs more to fly there then it's costing me to fly to Orlando. sigh.)

Yes! Love the WestJet M/C.
I have already used the introductory $300 and companion flight (got the card in February).
As a matter of fact, it's the sole reason I was able to go with Kay to Disney.
I just got back from Ottawa, and had accumulated another $230 or so and that made that trip possible.

If you're planning on Maritimes flights (I know how expensive those are) then I'd say get the card.
If you're planning a lot of Caribbean/Mexican flights, then you can't use the companion flight for those.
(Only Continental USA and Canada.)

I can't wait to get caught up on this trip report, I love your humour!

 Thanks! Have fun catching up!

That sounds like that would be cool. We have no windows where I work. Need to peek out door

Don't have any windows either anymore.
That was back in the "Good ol' days".

Party like it's 1999!

Which, coincidentally, was when I last had sleep...
Nope. 1997.

Early 1997.

Thanks for the discount:rotfl2:

You're welcome. Thanks for shopping with us.

Send some of that luck my way if you could!

It would appear my luck tank is empty at the moment. Hope your day is better than mine! :crazy2:

I saw that. You're just not having much fun, are you.

Me too!! I also have a belle cup from le fous brew I use, and my son has the gaston one.

:) My DDs like to use the refillable mugs.

One of these days I'm going to tell them they can't use them because the RFID chip is expired.

:rolleyes1

haha! my sister got me some Brussel sprouts yesterday! lol that's funny!

:rotfl: No way!!
