Canadian Buffoon's Disney With a Teen Vacation - 08/13 - The Wrap

Just a few more shout-outs to go....
but I'm at the end of my rope.
(And I know this because I first typed that as "but at I'm end the")
Rest (just typed "resst" then "yped" instead of "typed") tomorrow.

Night folks!

Thanks!
So I should've just called you for the containers...

Well, I had them...and you would have been welcome to them. I could have sent them to your resort.

Oh, it's not my idea. It's actually in the UOG!

OK, I googled, UOG and got University of Ghana. Thinking that's not it.

I'm out of touch too. I try to listen to today's music and it mostly doesn't do it for me.
So I go back to what I know.

That's pretty much what I do. I lost touch in the 80's when I was a music major and went back to the real oldies like 1780, and 1880's, and my favorites 1907-1911 and 1940's. When I resurfaced into popular music, there were very few bands I could relate to so now I'm back with what I grew up with in HS which was also older as disco took over and ruined most music, so even back then I had to revert backwards to the 60s and early 70s.

But when we rode Mission Space green we liked it.
So we tried orange.... not a good idea.
It was at least an hour before I felt okay again.

I love the orange side, but that's about as tough as I get. I will need Dramamine when we go to US/IOA in April/May next year.

See? My TRs explain everything!

::yes::

Glad that I was able to come to your rescue!
I never try to reply to comments on my iPod.
It's just not built for that, I guess.

My phone isn't either, but I'm going to have to learn for the next few months as I see a very busy (not a lot of DIS time) few months in my future.

Of course I'm exaggerating.
If the guard had stood firm and not allowed Kay into the country,
I simply would've turned to her,
said "Sucks to be you! Bye!" and left her behind.

I mean... it's Disney after all!

:rotfl2: :lmao: rotfl:

Nice! Ballpark how many? 10? 50? 100? More?

I'm guessing just under 100. The bag of candy I bought had like 120 pieces. Most kids were good and only took one piece, but some grabbed a handful. I had some other candy that I was able to throw into the mix as we started to run low. This was our first year being home on Halloween in this new house. Last year we were on a cruise that left Miami on Halloween night so we had our house sitter just turn off the lights and pretend no one was home. It was kind of fun this year, as I mentioned this is a much nicer neighborhood than we lived in before, and the costumes were way better and most kids were better behaved than the previous neighborhood.

What can I say about BTMRR....

Man I love this ride!!!
And yet... Even though I made a note...
Even though I told Kay...
Even though she said she wanted to...

Somehow, I still haven't ridden it at night!

BTMRR is my favourite ride in all WDW. I've loved since the first time I rode as a kid. One of my best Disney memories was at MNSSHP in 2010, on my birthday, when just before closing I got to ride BTMRR three times in a row without even getting off the ride. I didn't even know they did that! And yes, it really is a different ride at night. The atmosphere is great, especially the saloon and the mist at the end with lighting that makes it feel a bit like Haunted Mansion.

I'm always throwing out a poor pun or weak joke as I think of them.
Kay refers to them as "Dad jokes".
Some days, the only reason I wake up in the morning is to tell "Dad jokes". :rotfl2:

It's trundling down the track and then.... Airborne! Flying!
It's flying over London.

One of my clearest memories from my trip when I was 9 (the only trip I took as a kid) is flying over London. I still get a thrill from it.

We survived. Unscathed.
My God, we are brave people.
Are you not in awe??
Bonus points if you say you are.
Be superfluous with your praise.

Now, first of all, I have to say that I actually don't mind iasw that much, in fact it's kind of my family's tradition that our trip has to start with that ride, because it "feels" like we're at Disney.
However, I am of course in awe and I tip my hat to your courageous feat. The stories of your triumph shall be told throughout the generations and the DISboards peasants shall rejoice at the mere mention of pkondz and the battle of the singing dolls. (Hmm..laying it on a bit thick there, am I? Anything for a bonus point or two :rolleyes1)

"Dad, can we ride the tea cups?" She innocently asked.
"Sorry, no. It'll make me feel sick." I replied.

I have a similar issue with the tea cups. But I do have a cute little story. My DD (who is now 8) went to WDW twice and both times the one ride she really wanted to go on was the tea cups. As (bad) luck would have it, both trips in 2010 and 2013 the tea cups were down for maintenance. So last year we finally went when they were running, so to mark the special occasion I actually promised her I would go with her on her first tea cup ride. I hope she remembers that when she's older, because she probably won't get me on those spinning cups of nausea again :crazy2:

Terra Nova guy - 2 points for tonsils, 2 points for luck.

:thanks: Everything went fine with the tonsils and, 4 tubs of ice cream later, she's now back at school as if nothing ever happened.

Bonus questions, round 5!
Allright, let's see what I can do with the questions this time.

What ride do we try to ride, but it's closed? Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin (just thinking of something different...)

What ride do we go on instead? The TTA Peoplemover

Do we get a FP for Ariel? Or not? Yes

We do have another meal, you know.
It's in MK and it's an ADR.
And it's not BOG!
So, where is it? I'll stick with the Plaza, again.

We have a third ADR for later in the evening.
It's not in MK, or any park, or in DTD.
Guesses? 'Ohana

Do we stay for Wishes? Or does our ADR prevent that? To follow up from my answer above, you don't stay in the park for Wishes, but you are hoping to see it either from the restaurant or on the Poly beach (yes, I know that's not a very straight forward answer )

Sorry I'm late, but it looks like you had an awesome birthday and Halloween.

But happy belated Birthday anyway!

I've been following along but can finally comment! Glad to read about how much fun y'all are having!

What ride do we try to ride, but it's closed? Pirates of the Caribbean!

What ride do we go on instead? Jungle Cruise

Do we get a FP for Ariel? Or not? Probably not.

We do have another meal, you know.
It's in MK and it's an ADR.
And it's
not BOG!
So, where is it?
Crystal Palace.

We have a third ADR for later in the evening.
It's not in MK, or any park, or in DTD.
Guesses?
Beaches and Cream!

:cool1: This is my "Say What?!' happy dance for doing good the last two rounds (yes I played the lottery like you told me too)

Ya done good!

I'm thinking OH Boy, here it comes...traveling with a teenager. This is what the title was all about.

I may have stretched the truth just a hair on the title...

:rolleyes1

Once again, loved your photography. The castle with reflection should be a postcard. Hey, that would I be a great screensaver?

Thanks! Don't think it would work for a screensaver though,
since it's a vertical and not horizontal framing.
(But thanks for the compliment!)

I only hope we can get just something close to these. I need to practice on new camera we got for daughters HS graduation. I figure I have about a year to play with settings

Play with the settings.
Put it on Auto and see what the aperture and shutter speeds are.
Then put it on Aperture priority and fiddle with the shutter speed.
And do the same thing with Shutter priority and fiddle with the aperture.
Then try full Manual and see what you can do.

I would never argue with you that this is the best ride. Because it's a great coaster!

::yes::

You had me going there. I'm thinking Bad Kay. Please don't let this happen! But the idea of you ordering and then going back to the hotel for delivery Chinese was putting you in the league of Dad of the Year.
Talk about doing anything to make a daughter happy! Then...ya got me good:rotfl2:

 Going back to the hotel would qualify.
But for what I'm not sure.
Dad of the Year or Idiot of the year!

Yes, It took me reading this a second time to get it. I was wondering if you have different Chinese entrees in Canada:confused3
Both of you are just big jokers kidding around!

Oddly enough, the Chinese/Polynesian place that we always go to
has menu items that are similar.
"Chicken a la Ding"
No idea what it is since we've never ordered it!

See I was right. The whole IASW was your idea, no dragging you on that ride now.

Yep!

I of course was in awe of your bravery through this. You deserve an award for such creativity and to have ridden this twice in one year is beyond words.

I agree with you.

Just like before when you didn't think you could make a Disney trip work, you checked flights daily. I figure you would do the same with BOG.

Smart cookie.

The apple doesn't fall far from the tree
You'd be in the right place to find a home with your 'friends'

Yep. Not a bad place to wind up.
I guess that's why some people dump their loved ones ashes in there.

What other ride would someone need to be dragged on to! I would never call you a sucker. If I did, all parents would be ones too. It's called, giving in for peace and happiness

Yeah. Pretty much.

Quote me as saying AWWWW.....little Kay. Those two pictures are so sweet. Great idea.

Thanks! :goodvibes

This mermaid would go with rum or tequila thanks!

Gotcha. Have one on me.

What a unique story line. Of course I've never been on this ride and now thanks to you, I may not have the innocent experience as the ride was meant to be.
I'm sure its not the first time you've been called a bad influence

Possibly not.. probably not.

Thanks again for a wonderful update.

You're welcome! Glad you enjoyed it!

I would just like you to know that once again multi-quote does not like me. I hope this comes out okay, since I had to scroll up, highlight & click reply, come back down and change text color, write comment and then repeat.
I'd say it was an hour long process:faint:

 Holy cow! Don't worry about the colours in the quotes!
I did, since it was my TR, but I just can't take the time for it anymore.
I quote the stuff and let the colours fall where they may.
I only make sure to colour my own replies to make it easier for my readers.

And don't click "reply", click "+quote" instead after you highlight.
Then when you've selected everything you want, go to the comment box
and click "Insert Quotes..." at the bottom left.
All the stuff you highlighted will show up.
You can re-order the quotes or remove some.

Now to my guesses:
closed ride-POTC
you ride Jungle Cruise
You do get a fast pass for Ariel (and get picture proof)
ADR for Tony's (I made last minute change)
3rd ADR is for Beaches and Cream (please don't let it be the other dessert I was thinking)
You do not see Wishes this day.

Noted.

Also...
belated-birthday46.gif

What day was your birthday? How old are you? Sounds like you had a good day.

Down girl! Easy there!

Day before Halloween. Older than dirt. And it was a terrific day!

We were at Cedar Point yesterday. Were there about six hours and only rode four rides: Gatekeeper, Millennium Force, Rougarou and Cedar downs. Was going to ride Gemini and maybe Top Thrill Dragster but both were closed. going We had lunch at Pink's and was not impressed. Then had a soft pretzel later. We had won free tickets so didn't feel the need to get our money's worth. Walked the whole park and my legs hurt really bad today.

Other than the sore legs (sorry you're hurting. Go soak in the tub for an hour.)
sounds like you had a pretty good day.
I Yahoo'd (since Google stopped working) Pink's.
Too bad. It looks like a pretty cool place.
Mmmmm..... soft pretzel.....

oh man! happy birthday sounds like you had a great time.

I did! Thanks Betsey! :)

I hope you had a very :bday:

I did! Thanks Rachel! :)

Ah man you really got me!!! I was getting all tense and worried that your whole trip was going to be ruined and then I see your Splash ride photo and burst out laughing!!!!

 Gotcha!

That was a good one.... and quite the clever way to introduce it too. :thumbsup2

Thanks! :goodvibes

Great update! Sounds like you and Kay had such a fabulous day in MK.

Thanks! We had a lot of fun that day!
And it's not over yet!

I am in awe that you braved the happiest cruise that ever sailed AGAIN!! :boat::boat::boat:

And so you should be! It's not for the faint of heart!

And I love that you ended up having a great time on the Tea cups!

No one was more shocked than I was!

Since it's your favorite ride, I have to share our MNSSHP costumes from last month.....

OMG! :worship:

I don't want to be like you guys... I want to be you guys!!
Brilliant! Absolutely brilliant!
Did most people get it? I assume so, but you're more subtle of the two.

My guess is Pirates because it's closed for refurbishment

Jungle Cruise.... lots of Dad jokes here

Yes, after using your 3rd FP+, you're able to grab a 4th to meet Ariel :thumbsup2

My guess is Tony's Town Square

You've already had breakfast, lunch, and dinner.... so you must be headed to Beaches and Cream for dessert!

Nope you don't stay for Wishes

Noted.

Your updates always make my day, can't wait to read more!

Awww... Thanks! More coming soon.

By the way, happy belated birthday? Sounds like you had quite the nice celebration.

Anywhere interesting?

Sadly, no. Annapolis, Maryland. I did find a couple of good places to eat, though. I mean, any time you get the chance to eat at a placed called The Iron Rooster, you have to do it.

And yet you haven't changed it yet.
Who knows after the next update, maybe you will.
Maybe you won't.

Well, we've already established that I'm terrible with random guesses. And usually I'm even worse when I second-guess the random guesses.

It's (IMHO) the best place.
The ball room is huge and the other room not much smaller.
This one has the changing painting, the lightning and the
falling petals rose.

Sounds good to me. I'm always interested in seeing the result of good Imagineering.

It's tasty. Didn't really appeal to Kay, but for a quick service?
Not bad at all.

Braised pork sounds better than fancy deli sandwiches to me.

Hmmm.... Maybe that's not a good idea.
Then we'd have a bunch of little girls all wanting to become
corporate lawyers.
We got enough lawyers already.

Good point. Plus, as a bumbling idiot, I like keeping the fantasy alive that some beautiful woman will still settle for me because I was the first guy to come along.

Wait, I guess that really did happen!:rotfl2:

Well, I had them...and you would have been welcome to them. I could have sent them to your resort.

Why didn't you let me know?!?!
Next time, when I need something that I'm keeping secret,
just read my mind and deliver, lady!

OK, I googled, UOG and got University of Ghana. Thinking that's not it.

Nope. That's it!

Orrrr.... it could be the DIS acronym for the Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney World.

But I like University of Ghana better.

That's pretty much what I do. I lost touch in the 80's when I was a music major and went back to the real oldies like 1780, and 1880's, and my favorites 1907-1911 and 1940's. Funny thing is, as much as I loathed Disco back in the late 70s,
now I listen to it and even turn it up.
It brings back memories of school dances and sock hops.

My phone isn't either, but I'm going to have to learn for the next few months as I see a very busy (not a lot of DIS time) few months in my future.

1. Totally jealous you were in Disney on your birthday.
2. Even more jealous beyond words that you were in Disney on your birthday and MNSSHP!
3. And then you top it off with three consecutive BTMRR rides? :faint:

And yes, it really is a different ride at night. The atmosphere is great, especially the saloon and the mist at the end with lighting that makes it feel a bit like Haunted Mansion.

Geez! You're not making me feel better here!!!
I have to go back AND NOT FORGET TO DO IT!!!

Weirdo!!!

:lmao: Just kidding! I get it! I really do!
I've read a few comments from people explaining why they like it.
So I really do get it!

If anything, not thick enough.
But I think you might have scored some points.

Belated Happy Birthday to you! Mine was on the 28th. Yay for almost-Halloween birthdays!

Thanks! Happy belated Birthday to you too! :goodvibes
And almost-Halloween birthdays are the best!

Sorry I'm late, but it looks like you had an awesome birthday and Halloween.

But happy belated Birthday anyway!

I did! Thanks Andy! :)

I've been following along but can finally comment!

Well in that case... :welcome: to the TR!

Glad to read about how much fun y'all are having!

So far... so.... good? Yeah, let's go with "good".

What ride do we try to ride, but it's closed? Pirates of the Caribbean!

By the way, happy belated birthday? Sounds like you had quite the nice celebration.

 I like the way you have the question mark at the end of the well wishes.
Like you're not sure if it's a good thing or not.

But, thanks! It was a really nice (and surprising) celebration.

Sadly, no. Annapolis, Maryland.

Oh, I dunno. I've never been to Annapolis, so I'd be happy.
Any time I see some place new, I'm happy.

I did find a couple of good places to eat, though. I mean, any time you get the chance to eat at a placed called The Iron Rooster, you have to do it.

::yes:: I took a quick peak at the menu.
Pretty wild stuff in there. A shrimp burger???

Well, we've already established that I'm terrible with random guesses. And usually I'm even worse when I second-guess the random guesses.

Try triple guessing. Maybe that'll work.

Braised pork sounds better than fancy deli sandwiches to me.

That's what I thought.
Made a quick service feel more like table service, too.

Good point. Plus, as a bumbling idiot, I like keeping the fantasy alive that some beautiful woman will still settle for me because I was the first guy to come along.

Wait, I guess that really did happen!:rotfl2:

 So it really does happen!

Wow! I think I'm actually caught up with the shout-outs!
But considering things were bouncing around a bit,
it's possible I missed someone (someones?).
If I did, let me know!
I'm not snubbing you deliberately! Honest!

Well, except for that one person, of course.

It appears that a day of note and recognition arrived without my being aware of it.
Well a belated offering will just have to surface as my time machine is on the fritz.
But what would be an appropriate celebration of such a momentous occasion?
Hummmm…

OK, I’ve got just the thing!

58960424.jpg

A happy - belated - You’re Now Officially Even Older Day.

But sometimes I award points for clever repartees that come later.

That wasn't one of them.
“Oh, so feisty!”

Huh! No way!
So either I'm brilliant, or....
I'm really good at Imagineering rides that have failed..
15 years ain’t all that bad a run, so apparently you may just be really good at Imagineering.
I mean, World of Motion only made it 14 years and Horizons only 16….
So who’s to say?

I appreciate that Clark..
Heart still bigger than the brain I see…
Commendable.

OMG. I think the last time I saw anything from Barney Miller,
it was when it was on TV.
And not a re-run!.
I can’t even look at a brownie without thinking about those scenes; a highly underrated show, that.
And the brownie episode – to me at least – was some of the funniest telle writing I can think of.

I imagine the research done in the writes room was quite intensive.

Oh, sure. I'm an easy going kind of maniac..
Ladies and Gentlemen, Mesdames et Messieurs, Damen und Herren…
from what was once an inarticulate mass of lifeless tissues…
may I present a cultured, sophisticated, Man About Town.

It appears that a day of note and recognition arrived without my being aware of it.

Really? Halloween happens every year around this time.

Well a belated offering will just have to surface as my time machine is on the fritz.

 I can only imagine.
That was a really great show, and I don't think it really got the recognition it deserved.

Ladies and Gentlemen, Mesdames et Messieurs, Damen und Herren…

Puttin' on the Ritz!

 I like the way you have the question mark at the end of the well wishes.

That was a typo, but if it amused you enough for bonus points, it was totally intended.:rolleyes1

Oh, I dunno. I've never been to Annapolis, so I'd be happy.
Any time I see some place new, I'm happy.

I totally agree. So much fun to get out and explore.

::yes:: I took a quick peak at the menu.
Pretty wild stuff in there. A shrimp burger???

Lots of fun twists on comfort food. And lots of waffle-related items. They told me their chicken-and-waffles was a big seller, so I went with that. I do not regret my decision.:thumbsup2
