I actually didn't mind that part of it.
We used to (as kids) go to A&W where they'd bring your food out to the car
on a tray that hung on the window.
About 2 hrs south of the "single ride to conquer", Valley Fair trip for Kay, is an A&W that still serves drive up window style, and sometimes the staff are even in Poodle skirts.
In that part of Lower Canada, I mean, MN, it would be terrible to have to eat A& W inside, at a table. (Which they also have) Spring Valley, MN is the location.
hi there guys!!! better late than never!
Im caught up wiht the chapters (not the banter, though)..... I just wanted to post that map. to show you that disney owes you a little bit of money.. that 1st room you got, overloking the kiddie pool (nebo and I had that view one year, but I think it was 3rd floor) is a preferred room, but not a preferred pool view.
loving the report!! laughing like crazy!!!! can't wait to read more!
Thanks for welcoming me!
The A&W is fantastic there, and is one of the things I miss having moved from MN to NC. There is even a giant fiber glass Burger Man you can force your children to pose with in order to document that they have encountered a real car hop on a real A &W.
It's worth a day trip down, and there is a great winery just outside of the town with fantastic eine and hard cider.
How old are your girls?
(I may have asked that already, but I'm dumb, so... there ya go.)
I was at work and Ruby wanted to butter some bread or something.
Unfortunately, the butter dish was empty,
so she took some out of the fridge.
This is one of those 4 sticks/2 cup packs?
I think that's the most common size.
Anyway...
Ruby didn't want hard butter... she wanted soft butter!
So she put the entire thing on a small dish and put it in the microwave.
On high power.
For a minute.
Ding!
Butter all over the microwave...
Of course the dog was really interested in what was going on,
so she was hovering at Ruby's feet.
Ruby carefully pulls out the overflowing dish of butter...
and promptly spills most of it on the counter, the cupboards...
and the dog.
At no time did I notice or in any way acknowledge
that the dreaded hat was gone.
I guess it's like a scab.
Totally noticeable and grosses you out when it's there,
but when it's gone, you hardly remember
that it had ever been there at all.
Before entering, we paused to take a picture of where we were going to eat.

I had the Peanut Butter & Jelly milkshake.
Heaven in a metal cup!
Kay, not being a fan of Jelly, (don't ask)
or peanut butter (don't ask) had vanilla, I believe.
She did try my shake, and pronounced it "too peanut buttery".
I pronounced it a gift from the gods.
Man, that sucker was good!
Quick bonus point quiz opportunity!
Do either (or both) of those pictures make you salivate?
When we were finished our meals
(I don't think either one of us cleaned our plates... just too much food.)
our server asked what we'd like for dessert.
Hey! It's free! Of course we're going to have....
uh.... no.
We were stuffed!
We passed on dessert.
I think the decision to pass on dessert was better...
Better than...
bringing a bucket.
(no I do not need to see another picture of Mr. Creosote... it's only wafer thin!)
Man that ride is fun!
And in case you're wondering.
Yes. I beat Kay.
I'm her father. She's gonna have to earn those victories!
We got to TOT and there was a pretty good line-up.
But we bypassed all the suckers and went right on in.
I love FP. Might not have been obvious.
Did we enjoy it?
You've seen this before, but this is where it's from.

The child behind me is trying to poop.
Just thought you'd like to know.
We got to our designated bus stop at 10:45 and had our longest wait so far.
The bus arrived 4 minutes later at 10:49.
I really felt like lodging a complaint.
But I was too tired.
Maybe tomorrow.
I wandered over to the gift shop.
Now, how was I going to sell this.
I couldn't tell the lady at the counter that I was feeling like a certain
cloud producing lady in AK.
Ah, I got it.
"Hi! My daughter's thighs are chafing. Do you have any body glide or similar?"
When in need, your kids are always available to be thrown under the bus.
They didn't have any body glide...
but they did have some diaper rash cream.
Bonus questions, round 4!
Take a flyer on our park arrival time.
Did we make rope drop or not?
Pick our three FPs! Nothing weird here, but there are a few options.
I do have a lunch ADR in the park. Where is it?
(Reminder. I was already well within the ADR window when I booked.)
What ride does Kay drag me onto against my will?
(I'm serious. I told her I didn't want to go, but she insisted.)
Correct on Four Daughters. Really great desserts there in addition to the wine.
A little ways further east of the town is a place called Historic Forestville, that has a living history site where they pretend it is 1899, and portray the villagers. If you are making the trek to Valley Fair, it is well worth a day trip down and back between the vineyard, the A&W and the historic site. (Which, in full disclosure, my mom is the assistant manager of the historic site.) It might not be Disney, but you could pretend Belle wanders around.
Haven't had time to DIS, been catching up on my Once Upon a Time viewing.
I'm starting Season 4, the one with Frozen.
Plus I'm still sick with the flu.
And tomorrow I'm going down to my mother's house and won't be back till Monday.
We have a couple of drive-ins here in Elyria but they're not A&W's and the food's not great. There's a Sonic near Cedar Point.
So I don't think you make it to rope drop. You get there about 10:15.
Your FP's are for 7DMT, Peter Pan and Splash.
ADR is difficult. Maybe Plaza, Tony's or Diamond Horseshoe. Back in 2009 the only ADC I could get was for DH because I booked the trip late. I eventually got Crystal Palace by looking everyday for an ADR. Anyway, I need the points so I'm going with the majority and choosing Plaza.
If you've asked before, I don't remember. I suppose we're both a bit dumb![]()
My step-daughter is 15 and my daughter is 8. Below is a picture of my happy clan at Epcot, taken nearly a year ago to the day. Soon time for another trip....
My brother use to always do something similar, where he would part microwave it and it would start to melt in the middle, and as the days went on and we got to the middle of the butter, it was melted and hardened, and the remelted butter.
Your ackowledging it now.......
But to be fair, scabs can be fun to pick at, there was nothing about about that hat.
Woo!!!!! Prime Time..
Your a good man for not instantly disowning her for not liking peanut butter and jelly. A weaker man wouldn't be seen in public without someone who doesn't order that milkshake!
That chicken looks amazing!!!! Definitely makes me salivate.
The lack of dessert is astounding. didn't you hear about people having a dessert stomach for situations like this![]()
Hope you let her win something!
Did you strut past all the suckers in line to really rub it in?
Love that picture!!!
You have a magnetising force around you which brings disney transportation.
Should have borrowed some of that ladies baby power![]()
1. I am going for 9:30am.
2. I will conform and go the Plaza
3. It's a small world!!!! How can you not love it!! Its even better doing it in HK when the song isn't in English!
Love your last update!
Been planning our next trip and was pulling my hair out over DHS. So this one helped!
Kay has a good eye for photos!
My first few trips brought my regular camera, but the last trip and probably this next one just going to use my phone. Always take a gazillion pictures tho, so will need to empty out some of the other stuff on it!!
We like H&V, but wasn't able to get an ADR, so went for Sci Fi. Like you said, try it once for ambience. The food at 50's looks great, but don't need someone getting upset with me if I do something wrong. Doug would hate it!!
Wish I could try the PB&J milkshake, but too rich for my blood.
Rob loves milkshakes, but just plain vanilla. He does not like PB (or chocolate for that matter).
I hear Sci Fi has onion rings, so I will like that. Just not expecting a good meal.
Will be riding GMR - wish they would redo the animatronics - maybe just one at a time so not to cause much disruption. We know they can do better!
I don't like the gangster - I would rather ride through with the guide giving you little tidbits from the movies.
I heard there used to be a western theme one as well, but we always had the gangster.
Love ToT! Got my son and friends teenage daughter on it last time - they were so scared and nervous, I looked over at the first drop and they were both grinning ear to ear! They loved it!
RnRC front row is the best. The wind in your face there adds something to the ride! Doug doesn't ride, so there are four of us, we switch off on the very front row.
Still trying to decide on Fantasmic. I have been there once and enjoyed it, but never felt the need to see it again. We were mulling it over this time.. We might just try and pop in, don't want to wait for ever. Sounds like a FP isn't worth it. The crowds levels are low, but only one showing...when you described Kay's reaction...Rob was 9 when he last saw it, my friends have never seen it...
Oh and an FYI on BodyGlide - I have heard that regular stick deodorant works as well, though I have never tried that. Diaper rash cream seems it would be pretty heavy in that heat, but maybe it would stick better than deodorant would.
Oh, and add my vote for AKL over GF. Never stayed at GF, but have toured the resort. Too froo-froo for me - there is nothing like sitting on your balcony and watching a giraffe amble by or seeing the little warthogs (they must have been babies) chasing each other and the antelope and zebras grazing.
WL looks amazing as well, but have never stayed there. Unfortunately, Disney is pricing us out of those hotels. So we are doing POFQ this time.
And no to changing IASW! But I have sentimental reasons. I love this ride because it is the only one I remember from our trip to DL that I rode with the whole family. My Dad loved it! He saw a lot of hate in WWII, and this was like a celebration of all he had been fighting for. The song, although repetitive, really resonated with him, and it was his favorite ride! I actually have the LP he bought somewhere around the house. We took our friends on it for their first time, and it is now a must-do - although Doug still teases me about the song driving people crazy sometimes. But if you really listen to what they are saying...it's a classic, a Walt Disney original from the 1964 World's Fair (although not sure if the song is the same), and I love it!
And I was reading about the fingerprints, I don't worry about that much. It is supposed to be biometrics, not the actual prints - they would have to clean the glass off after each use to get a decent picture. Plus, a lot of the prints are kind of anonymous. You can buy tickets with cash at the ticket window, and I buy tickets for our whole family from Undercover Tourist and dole them out, so no way of the knowing who got which. Granted attaching them to MB will make them less anonymous, but not everyone uses MB. I just don't know if it would be worth anything. So I don't worry about it.
I am formally dropping out of the contest.
I am having trouble keeping up and I am not working!! So I will read and enjoy, and maybe comment occasionally.
I have been offered a job, just need to ask them a few questions. I am of mixed emotions. Financially, with Rob in college I do need to work. But I enjoyed the time with him this summer, and being able to do my own thing this fall - I didn't think my first application would land me a job at what appears to be a pretty decent place! And they are OK with my plans for the January trip. Going from 6+ weeks of vacation to only 3 is hard though. I will take the job, so I will have even less time as back to work I go!
So, a quick "real world" update, I am in hospital with my youngest daughter - nothing serious, she just got her tonsils out today (everything went fine)
You don't make rope drop (because...teenagers...)
FP's are Splash mountain, Haunted Mansion and Space Mountain
ADR is for the Plaza (an underrated restaurant imho)
You must have been dragged on it's a small world
P.S. Thanks for the compliment on the ladies in my life. I certainly am a lucky guy.
They are open for some weekends, school tours, etc in May, open in the summer, and then fall weekends and special events. Tomorrow is their Apple Butter day at the farm, where they will kettle cook 50 gallons of apples to roughly 2 gallons of apple butter.Interesting. Do they do that year round? Or just in the summer?
The butter story is hilarious and I could totally see myself doing the same thing. I once left food on the stove while I walked away just for a second only to come back after forgetting about it to find it burnt onto the bottom of the pot. Now replace "once" with "repeatedly".
Also there was the time that I wanted to paint easter eggs at the inlaws' house. MIL put 12 eggs into a pot to boil. Then we went out to dinner. Just before dessert she says "did you remember to turn off the stove?"... Ummmm... no... I thought she was going to do it. I've never seen people leave a restaurant so fast. We got back to a stinky house with most the eggs burnt onto the pot and some of them exploded onto the walls and ceiling. Yes, eggs stuck to the ceiling.
I really don't get all the hatred for the hat. I didn't think it was that bad. I kind of miss it but I guess I'm in the minority.
I'm hungry at the moment so your food pictures from prime time are making me salivate.
I get Kay's lack of love for peanut butter. It's really overrated. I also don't like it in desserts. Plus I hate when they call it peanut butter and jelly. It's peanut butter and JAM.
Now nutella on the other hand I can eat out of the jar.
(And I did once when I had a glass of it they wouldn't let me through security at the airport with).
I'm surprised you didn't get dessert since it was included. But I guess carrying it around wouldn't have been fun. I just force fed myself all the free desserts then went on roller coasters.
I wouldn't have thought any less of you if you had dragged Kay kicking and screaming onto Tower. Sometimes kids need to be convinced that what they're scared of really isn't that bad. You know they'll love it if they just try it.
Front row of Rock Coaster is the best!!! Great picture of you and Kay especially with the pooping kid in the back. Makes it extra special!
I convinced my son to ride it this year and it ended up being his favourite of the whole trip.
That's weird that the stores didn't stay open. Usually they announce "the stores will be open for your (giving us money) convenience".
OMG at blaming Kay for the chafing and body glide!!! Wait, won't she be reading this trip report??? Aren't you in trouble?
Contest:
you didn't make rope drop, that's just impossible
you got there at 10:30
lunch was at the plaza because you booked late
3 fast passes: space, splash, big thunder
the ride you didn't want to go on is a hard one. You hate small world but you know how to give it a better sound track so you wouldn't have kicked and screamed... I'll say the tea cups because most adults want to puke on that and kids never do.
They are open for some weekends, school tours, etc in May, open in the summer, and then fall weekends and special events.
Tomorrow is their Apple Butter day at the farm, where they will kettle cook 50 gallons of apples to roughly 2 gallons of apple butter.
