Canadian Buffoon's Disney With a Teen Vacation - 08/13 - The Wrap

Disney figurines are definitely a good omen. Tangent... Did you see that Lego Disney mini-figures are going to start to be sold in May???

If you aren't going to watch Inside Out, Princess Bride is a great choice

I didn't know the VIP transportation package applied to multiple trips. I'll have to look into booking that.

I'm from New England, so Dunkin Donuts is our Timmie's. Krispie Kreme tried to make inroads here, but I don't think they were successful.

YOUR SHRIMP PLATE LOOKED FANTASTIC!!! Any chance Ruby went back to the first food truck to get something?

I'm glad you decided to go to Iao Valley. Sounds like it was more-or-less on the way, and a great opportunity to do a short visit on your arrival day.

A relaxing, poolside dinner under the Maui sky sounds incredible.

:beach:

hands everything to me and says "You're good to go."

Bonus points if you can tell me what I said back to him.
Doesn't have to be exact.

"You're good to stay"

Next round:
1. Rise & shine! What time am I up?

Since I guessed your excursion is sunrise at Haleakela, 4 am.

2. What weird breakfast item do I buy?
(Hint: It's been guessed before.)

Spam

3. Can I walk?

No, not well, which is why this adventure was a lowlight.

4. Did you see it? Bonus points if you did.
No? Might want to look again.

Well, D'oh! Found it!

5. What local treat do we get?

Shave Ice

"Speaking of which, can you tell me where the nearest bathroom is?"

Noted.

I read this as "wad".

And this as, "turned out my family."

CLEARLY, I need a really good night's sleep.

 Get some sleep girl!
I did! I finally did!

Better than lippy kids. Wanna trade?

Nah. I already got those.

1. Rise & shine! What time am I up?

4:00 AM

2. What weird breakfast item do I buy?
(Hint: It's been guessed before.)

Spam (when in Rome...)

3. Can I walk?

Yes, but barely. (If you hadn't been able to, the next update better be set in an Urgent Clinic or ED.)

4. Did you see it? Bonus points if you did.
No? Might want to look again.

Yes, as a matter of fact. Steven Barrett would be proud!

5. What local treat do we get?

Fresh cut pineapple and cut sugar cane.

Noted, but.... I don't get "Steven Barrett"?

I read it all, loved every minute (even the tangent!), and feel badly you were sick for it.

I got better. Details next update.

BTW, I am intrigued at this term you used "approach plates". Had to look it up. I've wanted to learn how to fly for a while now and was curious what that meant. Now I (kinda) know.

Any questions, feel free to ask.

Disney figurines are definitely a good omen.

::yes::

Tangent... Did you see that Lego Disney mini-figures are going to start to be sold in May???

Nope. But then again, I don't collect Lego or Disney figures.
I'm a bad DISer, arent' I?

If you aren't going to watch Inside Out, Princess Bride is a great choice

That's what I thought.

I didn't know the VIP transportation package applied to multiple trips. I'll have to look into booking that.

It expires when you really, really need it.

I'm from New England, so Dunkin Donuts is our Timmie's. Krispie Kreme tried to make inroads here, but I don't think they were successful.

Now Dunkin Donuts I've had... once, I think.

YOUR SHRIMP PLATE LOOKED FANTASTIC!!! Any chance Ruby went back to the first food truck to get something?

It was soooo good. Ruby said she wasn't that hungry.
You can bet she was by dinner time, though.

I'm glad you decided to go to Iao Valley. Sounds like it was more-or-less on the way, and a great opportunity to do a short visit on your arrival day.

It was only a little out of the way.
About 1/2 way between the airport and the hotel.

A relaxing, poolside dinner under the Maui sky sounds incredible.

It was so nice and relaxing.

"You're good to stay"

 Noted.

I've been meaning to stop by when I have the time to comment and here I am. I told myself I had to do my chores before I could come. I folded three loads of laundry, ran two more loads, vacuumed three rooms, mopped the foyer, put the baby down, and finished homeschooling my kiddos. Are you impressed? I am too. Now let's just hope the baby stays asleep, while I type as fast as I can.

I sat bolt up in bed,
my throat feeling as if I'd swallowed
a handful of razor blades.
Oh No!!!

"Rise and shine! Up and at 'em! We got a plane to catch!"
You're so chipper in the morning!

"There's a train every seven to ten minutes." Comes the reply.
Ha! "Seven to ten minutes."
Clearly he doesn't know who he's talking to.
Clearly.

Less than a minute later, the Skytrain rolled up.
Of course it did. I would expect nothing more.

Upon arrival, I explained our baggage difficulties
to an Agent and we got to skip the line again.
Nice!

Bonus points if you can tell me what I said back to him.
Doesn't have to be exact.
Thanks so much. That was quick!:rolleyes1

I tell the family to relax and grab a seat, I'll stand in line.
You're such a gentleman.

Yippee ki yay.
In my head I finished that phrase. I'm so bad.

And no one on the plane (not even the DDs) had any
idea what she was talking about.
:rotfl2: Although you need to stop with the scary airplane scenarios. Seriously, next time I'm on a plane I'm going to hyperventilate.
Inside I'm like this:
panic_zpsvconr9yp.gif

The bags! The bags! We have to get the bags!
Slow and steady wins the race, right?

We get to the carousel and there's no one there.
There's no luggage there either.
Except for two lonely suitcases,
circling aimlessly in search of their owners.

I breathe a sigh of relief as I collect them.
I can almost hear them calling my name.
"Hi pkondz! Where you been? Had to pee?"
I wonder how long the carousel would have continued.

We've never had Krispy Kreme doughnuts before.
My dad grew up in Florida and he was so excited when they opened a shop in our home town. I remember him making a huge deal about it. One day after church he took us there. They sure were sweet.

And then spent the next few seconds pulling shells out.
We all assumed (like in Oahu) that the shrimp were
peeled and deveined.
Well, they were deveined. The peeled part? Not so much.
Yuck, yuck, yuck.

And it's absolutely gorgeous.
Beautiful.

Speaking of family photos,
these two kept following Ruby and me around.
They are so cute.

To make up for the bed shortage,
we'd brought along an inflatable mattress.
Smart thinking.

The look on Dee's face was priceless.
I just had an ear to ear grin on mine.
That's just mean.::yes::

I told her about the mix-up and we eventually
got the right bill and settled it.
I like your morals.

I don't know how he remembered our room number,
but he was right.
I was impressed.
Very.

Fast. Impressive again.
Absolutely.

1. Rise & shine! What time am I up?

5. What local treat do we get?

1. 6:00
2. Spam
3. Yes.
4. I didn't see it as first. I had to go back and look. I was so inspired by the beauty of the pictures that I would have never looked for a cartoon Waldo smack dab in the middle of the shot.
5.Shaved Ice.

Yessss! I made it. Time to wash the kitchen floor.:thumbsup2

There you are!

I told myself I had to do my chores before I could come. I folded three loads of laundry, ran two more loads, vacuumed three rooms, mopped the foyer, put the baby down, and finished homeschooling my kiddos. Are you impressed?

Holy crap! Yes!
You're like... Supermom!

Now let's just hope the baby stays asleep, while I type as fast as I can.

Go! Go! GO!

(And how'd that work out for ya?)

<sigh> yep.

You're so chipper in the morning!

I'm always chipper on the mornings when I'm going to Hawaii.

Of course it did. I would expect nothing more.

Ya got that right.

Thanks so much. That was quick!:rolleyes1

Noted.

You're such a gentleman.

Absolutely! If by "gentleman" you mean "utter and complete idiot".

In my head I finished that phrase. I'm so bad.

I think I'm in love.

:rotfl2: Although you need to stop with the scary airplane scenarios. Seriously, next time I'm on a plane I'm going to hyperventilate.

Just remember... Airplanes.
The safest mode of travel in the world.

That's probably not true
(I'm thinking "How many people are killed... ever... riding a llama?")
but it is safe.

Slow and steady wins the race, right?

Nope!
The old tortoise and the hare fable?
I tested it.
I put a turtle and a bunny in a circular pen.
I let 'em go.
The bunny lapped the turtle six times
(jumping over the turtle)
before I pulled them out.

So next time you want to get there quickly...
Sprint.

I wonder how long the carousel would have continued.

I don't know!! <shudder>
I don't want to think about it.

My dad grew up in Florida and he was so excited when they opened a shop in our home town. I remember him making a huge deal about it. One day after church he took us there. They sure were sweet.

But did you and he like itÉ

Yuck, yuck, yuck.

I was "Don't think about it, just spit it out and move on."

Beautiful.

::yes::

They are so cute.

Nope. They are evil, rotten creatures of darkness.

Smart thinking.

I knew ahead of time there'd be fighting otherwise.
It was merely self-preservation.

That's just mean.::yes::

And so much fun!!

I like your morals.

I have so few, I'm trying to rid myself of the remainder.

We've got a winnah!

We wandered over to the roulette table.
I'd never really played before, but I knew the gist of it.
I gave Elle $50 to play with.
She asked me to put some chips down first.
So I took about 1/6th of her stack and spread 'em around.
We won a bit back.
Elle played and won.
I played again and lost.
Elle played again and won and then played again...
and won again.
We decided we'd had enough.

She left the table with $114.

We then went over to a blackjack table.
This is my specialty.
I plunked down $50...

and lost it all in about 15 minutes.

Isn't that how it always works. You have a specialty you know you're good at until someone else is with you, then you can't seem to do anything. Craps is the table game I like to play, but it can break you really fast. Takes forever to win, but takes no time to take your money. Best day I've ever had playing craps was at a local casino. Started the night with $50, walked away with $850. I was probably up over a $1k but the hot shooter left and table went cold. Then there was this one time Lady H and I went with another couple to Vegas, friends of ours. I was teaching the guy to play craps as he had never played before. He was doing pretty good so after a while, I decided to stop being teacher and started playing myself. I lost $60 in about 5 minutes and he was up I say about $100 and still playing when I left the table.

Anyways glad you and Elle got to spend some time together and she finally got to get the casino experience.

As you can guess, Lady H and I are back from Washington DC. Thanks to the links at the bottom of each chapter, I'm able to at least catch up n the TR portion and breeze right through. I'll go back and read some comments later. I should be caught up soon.

FYI, I know some of the readers here follow Lady H on FB. For those that do, thanks for all the well wishes, prayers and good thoughts you posted on her page during my job search. Thank you for all the congratulations as well. I don't do FB so I'll have to thank you here. And in case you haven't figured it out, I was finally offered a job. I'll be back with state government. Thanks everyone for helping keep my hopes up during this speed bump in our lives.

I'll just visualize I'm riding a llama next time I'm on an airplane. Should be easy.

Gottcha.

But did you and he like itÉ
I'm sure I did. I was still a kid when I had my first Krispie Kreme.

Nope. They are evil, rotten creatures of darkness.
They're still cute.

Sorry to read about the throat. Coincidentally enough, Lady H and I went through the same thing here as well. I know what you mean about throat on fire. We thought it was early season allergies, then it turned in a sinus infection and chest congestion for both of us. Not very often we're sick at the same time so it was fun trying to decide who got to get up and make lunch or dinner. Some how I always landed up being the one. I'm gonna have to check that coin of hers.

This is all true except for the "you know you're good at" part.
I can play the game, but...
I'm not going to retire off my winnings any time soon.

Craps is the table game I like to play

And that's one game I've never played.
Looks like fun, though.
It'd be more fun to get together and you can show me.

That describes most casino games, I think.

Nice! Bet you were walking around with a big ol' smile on your face.

Then there was this one time Lady H and I went with another couple to Vegas, friends of ours. I was teaching the guy to play craps as he had never played before. He was doing pretty good so after a while, I decided to stop being teacher and started playing myself. The student has passed the master.

It was really nice.
I don't get to spend much time with her anymore.

How was it?

No way!! That's great... no! Wonderful news Mike! Congrats!
Very happy for you! :goodvibes

Sorry to read about the throat.

Ah, well. It did get better.

Coincidentally enough, Lady H and I went through the same thing here as well. I know what you mean about throat on fire. We thought it was early season allergies, then it turned in a sinus infection and chest congestion for both of us.

Both of you??? Wow, that sucks.

Not very often we're sick at the same time so it was fun trying to decide who got to get up and make lunch or dinner.

That's what frozen dinners and take out is for.

Some how I always landed up being the one. I'm gonna have to check that coin of hers.

Or take her with you to play craps.

Hi. Too much going on here to keep upon comments. As you saw on FB, our mean neighbor trapped one of our cats (the white and grey one in my avatar pic). He won't tell us where he took it so we can go look for him. He did this about ten years ago with some of the semi-strays in the neighborhood. Tomorrow someone from animal control is coming out to do an investigation on him. Needless to say DH and I are very upset and we both had some words with him. Our other neighbors saw him do it and are on our side so maybe something will happen. The nice neighbor and the mean neighbor already have restraining orders against each other if that tells you anything! Plus we're going out of town tomorrow for the night. Headed to Columbus for DH's friend's 40th birthday party. It'll be nice to see all the friends we don't get to see much but wish we were home to talk to the investigators. The nice neighbors will talk to them on our behalf at least.
Sorry for the rant but we are so mad and sad!

As you saw on FB, our mean neighbor trapped one of our cats (the white and grey one in my avatar pic).

I did see that. I was so ticked.
I may not have shown it, but I sure as... heck... was!
I can't type what I really think of that jack....butt.

He won't tell us where he took it so we can go look for him. He did this about ten years ago with some of the semi-strays in the neighborhood.

I wish someone would trap him and toss him in the middle of the Amazon rain forest.

Tomorrow someone from animal control is coming out to do an investigation on him.

Good!

Needless to say DH and I are very upset and we both had some words with him.

I can't even imagine how angry and upset you must be.

Our other neighbors saw him do it

Oh! I didn't know you had witnesses!
Maybe the cops can get involved too?
Or maybe you don't want that.

and are on our side so maybe something will happen.

I sure hope so.
Cretin.

The nice neighbor and the mean neighbor already have restraining orders against each other if that tells you anything!

Wow. Yeah.

Well, try to have fun at the party anyway,
but I totally get your reluctance to go.

Sorry for the rant but we are so mad and sad!

That's what we're here for, Carrie.
You need to rant, you go right ahead.

We just filed a police report and the guy denied that he took our cat! But it's on file and we can talk to the prosecutor to see if more action can be taken against him. Plus someone from the local shelter is coming out later. Of course none of this gets my cat back. If he would have just told us were he took him so we can go look for him we would have let it drop.

That is outrageous! He should be arrested!

Oh, and congrats to Thumperman on the new job. I myself am unemployed so I will take some inspiration from his success.

Hey pkondz! I just finished reading your entire TR. I really enjoyed it. I loved all of the pictures and I think it is great you got to do a trip with your youngest daughter!

This is awful! I can't say on these boards what needs to be done with that neighbor. You trap racoons and possums, NOT CATS! Especially someones pet!

We just filed a police report and the guy denied that he took our cat!

What a jerk. Guess he doesn't know there are witnesses.

But it's on file and we can talk to the prosecutor to see if more action can be taken against him.

I hope so.
He likes to trap cats?
Let's see how much he likes the feeling of being trapped.

Plus someone from the local shelter is coming out later.

What will they do?
Not being sarcastic, just curious.

Of course none of this gets my cat back. If he would have just told us were he took him so we can go look for him we would have let it drop.

Sure would be nice if he could be made to say where.
Some people... maybe "people" is too kind a term here.

Hey pkondz!

Hi Alison! :welcome: to the TR! :goodvibes

I just finished reading your entire TR.

Oh, dear. Are you okay?
Lie down for a bit and the queasiness will ease off.

I really enjoyed it.

:) Glad you did!

I loved all of the pictures and I think it is great you got to do a trip with your youngest daughter!

::yes::: It was a fun trip!
Don't know if you know, but my other DD is the same age as you.
