Canadian Buffoon's Disney With a Teen Vacation - 08/13 - The Wrap

I just read your report on my phone, but I'll have to wait to comment properly when I have a stable internet signal. Read: on my computer in a hotel with real WiFi. Or home with my Fios. So I'll be back when the signal is better!

I'm getting that you want a new Bat signal.
I think that's what you're saying.

Could be wrong.

It wasn't the best feeling in the world.

:rotfl:Your nicer than I am. I've got a whole playlist of obnoxious wake up songs that I have been building since my Nanny days when I looked after a family with a teenager. When I really had to get her moving I'd crank up the music till she woke up.

I was actually nicer than I usually am.
Probably because I was on vacation and in a good mood.

Usually I flick the lights on too.
That's the worst...

"Really? That's it?" "Well Okay then. Thank you!"

You're welcome!

::yes:: Make them earn their keep! :rotfl:

I know! What was I thinking???

:thumbsup2 So neat!!!

I figured a DISer would like that.

Huh... how gory is it?

Not very. CSI was far gorier IMHO.

You can never see that movie too many times. Its a classic!

::yes:: :thumbsup2

Wait, really? :scared1:

Yep.
There' been a few incidents, but since we're in Hawaii,
I'll give you this one (courtesy Wikipedia)

Pilots operating Go! Airlines Flight 1002 in October 2008, a thirty-six-minute leg from Honolulu to Hilo, fell asleep and overshot their destination by 30 nautical miles. Subsequently, they woke up and landed the airplane safely. The day the incident occurred was the third consecutive day pilots started duty at 5:40 AM.

Not surprising. The one on Oahu does to. Kinda unnerving when you land late at night and you don't see land beneath you while landing. :rotfl:

 Never thought about that, but...
yeah I can see that as being a touch unnerving.

Florida in August is its own kind of hot. :rotfl:

There should be a new word for that.
Something that combines Hades with suffering and sweating...
Haiduffereting.

Too long. You're hot. Ain't got time for all that.

Because James cameron wanted it to be a Romeo and Juliet type situation. He wanted Jack to die.:sad2::rotfl:

James Cameron is a jerk!
Even Rose said there was enough room.

Well at least you didn't have to deal with extra chaos to fight for them.

True. And if it weren't for the fear of thievery,
I'd almost... almost be inclined to do that all the time.

:headache: Sounds like my mother in law.

Unfortunate.

Ah, well. Not the end of the world.
There's a whole island left to explore!

Shocked you, did I?

wise choice! hope the hot now sign was on!

There's a "hot now" sign???

Oh now that is reassuring. :rotfl:

 I think he hangs around for a while and lets 'em out.

At least people ask. I just was baffled at the number of people that were trying so hard to get a selfie when all they would've had to do is just ask someone else.

I've actually offered to do it.
Not often... otherwise you'd be doing it all day,
but occasionally.

Bad, because its an island in the middle of the pacific and they are land locked and have nowhere to expand the roadways.

::yes:: Found that out the hard way.
But it was only bad that one day.

:rotfl: Now that's just mean! :rotfl:

But it was perfect!!

Not a cat fan I take it?

Adding this bonus plus the other points my math says I should have 35 points for the round. and 45 points total. Found the proper quotes to save you time from having to hunt yourself.

Thanks. I went back and fixed it. :)

8am

your in Hawaii. You get Spam and Eggs.

I'm going to be optimistic and say a good nights sleep did you good and you can walk.

:wave2: Hi Waldo! ::yes::

Did you tell the attendant at the desk; "finally, thanks, now you can get some sleep?" hahaha

I love me a hot donut! Cool you got to try Krispy Kreme!

That shrimp looks delicious!!

The views in Hawaii are amazing! It's on my bucket list- flights are just too much $ for us right now. Eventually we will get over there.. Also need to venture up to Canada sometime. Just need to get myself a passport... Haven't been since Niagra falls in spring of '08 before our first child was born. It was our "babymoon". I've always wanted to get back and see more of Canada. Someday....

Sounds like a good travel day and first day in Hawaii; despite your fatigue and fever....

1. Rise & shine! What time am I up?
7:30AM

2. What weird breakfast item do I buy?
(Hint: It's been guessed before.)
spam?

3. Can I walk?
Yes, but you're limping

4. Did you see it? Bonus points if you did.
No? Might want to look again.
He blends in so well :thumbsup2:wave:

5. What local treat do we get?
dole whip

Still mostly lurking, but I did see Waldo! Took me aback, then remembered it was your trip report! Maui looks awesome. Probably won't ever make it there; got other places on my bucket list first - and probably need a job to afford that... :rolleyes1 My mom did, it was a dream come true for her and my dad. Looking forward to the next update.

::yes:: The Hot Now sign goes on when they are making fresh doughnuts. If you only got doughnuts out of the case and didn't get one off the belt not even 30 seconds after it was finished baking then you haven't had the real Krispy Kreme experience. They literally melt in your mouth. :cloud9:

Well, he certainly deserved it after all that typing...

I love me a hot donut! Cool you got to try Krispy Kreme!

Wait... so is it hot or cool?
You can't have both!

That shrimp looks delicious!!

Well, to be honest...

It was amazing.

The views in Hawaii are amazing!

::yes:: Just the tip of the iceberg.
Hawaii is just one breathtaking view after another.

It's on my bucket list- flights are just too much $ for us right now.

I hear that.
We wouldn't have even considered it
if it hadn't been for that discount.

Also need to venture up to Canada sometime. Just need to get myself a passport... Haven't been since Niagra falls in spring of '08 before our first child was born. It was our "babymoon". I've always wanted to get back and see more of Canada. Someday....

It's a big place. Just a wee bit bigger than the U.S.

Sounds like a good travel day and first day in Hawaii; despite your fatigue and fever....

::yes:: It was.
I didn't mention it,
but I felt a lot better, health wise,
by the time we got there.

Our only regret is we couldn't stay!

Probably won't ever make it there; got other places on my bucket list first

What's on your list!?!?!? :hyper:

Ah yes. aka the necessary evil.
(Unless you're born rich or get rich.)

My mom did, it was a dream come true for her and my dad.

:goodvibes

Looking forward to the next update.

Sheesh! I just got the last one up!
;)

:scratchin might have to look into it then. sounds interesting.

I think I've watched... three? episodes?
I got a kick out of it.

The Mythbusters did a whole episode on it.

They did? How many people did they get on the raft?

Ah. Yeah, that'd explain the reaction.
Pun intended.

"Can I see your passports?" I'm asked.
I hand them over.
The agent pecks away at his keyboard for three days.
"Okay, you're all set." He chirps.
I don't know how he can be so happy
after not sleeping for three days.
He slaps tags on the suitcases,
slots the boarding passes into a passport,
grabs the other two passports,
hands everything to me and says "You're good to go."

Bonus points if you can tell me what I said back to him.
Doesn't have to be exact.

Where' the fourth passport? (I only count him handing three back to you)

We move on to US customs and passport control.
There are kiosks available to swipe your passport
and get your photo done.
Hmmm... This is new.
Whatever. Security is always changing.
And while it's a pain, it's less painful than the alternative.

I used to work for Immigration and trust me these things are a godsend! It gets easy cases through (like nationals and select passport holders) and leaves staff free to deal with the more difficult cases.

And the other movie.
You know, you people are smart.
Almost everyone guessed that I'd watch Inside Out.

6oqlr.gif

We get to the carousel and there's no one there.
There's no luggage there either.
Except for two lonely suitcases,
circling aimlessly in search of their owners.

I breathe a sigh of relief as I collect them.
I can almost hear them calling my name.
"Hi pkondz! Where you been? Had to pee?"

Shut up.
I loathe lippy suitcases.

There's only one thing to do with a lippy suitcase

Or something else?

Great update! Beautiful pics of the island so far. I want to say I went to that monument when I was in Hawaii with the parents on a cruise back in 99 (?).

LOVE the Krispy Kremes! I have had them many times as they sell them at a lot of places around here. I had heard that the best was when they are hot but I never had them that way until just before Christmas when we stopped overnight on the way to visit my Dad. There was a place across the street from our hotel and we saw the sign lit up out front that they were hot so we went in to get them. OMG!!! Heavenly! I definitely heard a choir of Angels!! LOL

Great update!

Thanks Danielle! :)

Beautiful pics of the island so far.

It was a weird picture taking vacation.
Sometimes I felt like shooting, other times not.
Sometimes I wanted to shoot but couldn't.

But man... everywhere you looked, you wanted to grab the camera.

I want to say I went to that monument when I was in Hawaii with the parents on a cruise back in 99 (?).

Okay... Say it. I'll allow it.

LOVE the Krispy Kremes!

We may have enjoyed them somewhat...

:rolleyes2

I have had them many times as they sell them at a lot of places around here.

I wonder... hang on....

Okay, after looking up Krispy Kreme locations in Canada and the US,
the nearest one is a mere ten and a half hour drive away
just outside Des Moines, Iowa.
Think I should do it?
Maybe I should call ahead to find out when their Hotlight will be on.

(I've done stupider drives, so...)

And it was, for all its distance, the perfect gate.
There were displays there.
With figurines.
Lots of figurines.
Here's one of the displays:
Is it just me or do the old style Mickey figurines resemble the dolls they make in hell? (like the one on the lower right) They're like something I would expect in a kid's nightmare, kind of like the old Mickey & Minnie characters back in "the day". If you've never seen them, look below (but hopefully not before bed :scared1:)

We decided to order two plates for the three of us to share.
(Ruby's allergic. So she got to watch us eat.)
One plate has a dozen shrimp, rice and a crab/mac salad.
I'm not much of a seafood lover, but the shrimp does look good. I like the food truck idea. Something very quaint and "down home" about it.

It was a great decision.
The drive to the park was worth it by itself.
We stopped at one point because I couldn't
take it anymore.
We kept "oohing" and "aahing" until we finally
just pulled over to take a picture.
The whole drive was like this:
I know it's been said before, but Hawaii really is a stunningly beautiful place. I had the chance to go there when I was in university on a field trip, of all things (I have a degree in Geology, so you know, Hawaii, lava, rocks...). But I decided against it and have regretted it ever since.

I then took out my electric pump, plugged it in
and inflated my mattress in about 20 seconds.
When my DD was in Brownies and first started going on sleepovers years ago, I went out and bought an air mattress and, being a cheapskate, thought "she's only dong this once or twice a year, I'll just get the cheap foot pump". Well, after a solid 20 or 30 minutes pumping away my leg was about to fall off (yes, I am talkiing about inflating the air mattress, sheesh!). I wasn't long going out to get the electric pump.

Yeah... They're creepy.
They look like what you'd find in a horror movie based in an insane asylum.

If you've never seen them, look below (but hopefully not before bed :scared1:)

Too late! Cannot unsee!

"Take the girl. Just leave me my son!"

::yes:: There is something about it.
Quaint and down home isn't a bad description.

Just... go.

Those food pumps are less useful than just blowing it with your mouth.

Happy Easter!

I'm getting caught up - going for the prize for the least points this time! :bitelip:

Oh boy! I love that scenery already! We are in the process of planning where to go next Spring break with Ryan and fam - I was already leaning toward convincing everyone we should go to HI - this TR pretty much puts me over the edge! DDIL hasn't been yet. We have points to use at Aulani, and Ryan knows someone with a vacation home at Kuai, or at the least we could stay at the beach in a military cabin on Kuai (I think) or even Oahu.

So worry Ruby had to miss out on the Shrimp. More for you, I guess.
Had to laugh at the parking lot attendant. So laid back. Gotta love the Island life, right?:hippie:

Looking forward to your next day. I'm guessing you woke up early, 6am, ate spam and you walked like an Egyptian - or a penguin
Is this you?

So... nah.
