Canada trip is on! Some new questions, please

Hello, A while back I posted here that my daughter's high school French Club was considering a trip north for Spring Break but plans were very uncertain. Many of you responded with wonderful advice. Thank you to all who were so helpful. Now I can ask more specific questions as plans are now final and fund raising is going on.

Our school is very small so there will not be a large group, eighteen students and eight adults. I am also coming as a parent-chaperone. The trip will be toward the end of April and we will be coming to Quebec. Five days and four night of tightly scheduled travel.

The first day will consist mostly of travel but we will arrive in Quebec early enough to dine in Old Quebec before crashing. I do not know yet where we will be staying but I do have my first question. Do most Quebec hotels have Internet available? I may bring my net book if so but will not bother if not.

Among the things planned are:

Breakfast at the Traditional Huron-Wendat Village
a scavenger hunt in the streets of the Old City
a Dancing cruise on the St Lawrence River
Visit the Musee du Fort
Walking tour of the fortified city
visit the Copper Museum
Quebec Experience 3D mutimedia show
Le Soldat de la Tour
dinner at an authentic sugar shack
tour of the Chateau Frontenac
visit the Artillery Park
visit Montmorency Falls park and ride the cablecars to the top of the falls
visit the indoor amusement park at Les Galeries de la Capitale

The girls in the group especially want me to ask what they need to wear for the Dancing cruise on the St Lawrence river?

What food is served at a sugar shack? at the Traditional Huron-Wendat Village?

What kinds of souvenirs might we expect to find and are they very expensive?

We will have a little free time to explore and be free for lunch each day. Are there quick food type places or (my favorite) small local restaurants that will be open for lunch and not require reservations? Approximately how much money should each student expect to need to eat?

Please tell me about the indoor amusement park at Les Galeries de la Capitale? How much are tickets? Rides any good?

I'm sure there are many more but maybe these are a good start?

I have a disclaimer before I reply to some of your questions. I have visited Quebec City a number of times, but I haven't actually been on most of the tours you mention. Generally speaking, you should be able to find out a lot of information about most tours by searching each one online. For example, the Musee du fort has a very good website.

There is a huge variance in the facilities offered by the hotels in Quebec City, some of which are quite old; access to the internet is often available for an extra charge. You may be able to find internet cafes close to your hotel.

The food in Quebec is excellent. My best guess would be that the sugar shack meal will be fairly hearty, likely with baked beans, cretons (sort of a pork pate), and a sugar pie for dessert.

You should definitely pack well broken-in walking shoes or athletic shoes. Old Quebec City is quite hilly (there are some really steep hills), there are a lot of cobblestone streets, your feet will really thank you for bringing good shoes!

Interestingly Quebec is the like the poutine capital of Canada. There are more variations of poutine there than anywhere else in Canada. For the life of me I cannot remember the one specific place I am thinking of. I will ask dh and post it.

One thing I forgot to mention earlier. Quebec City is a major school trip destination in the spring. You can expect that there will be a lot of high school kids and chaperones in town at the same time you are.

I've stayed at the Chateau Frontenac and it is absolutely gorgeous - it's really quite stunning and little creepy in some of the corridors. Don't forget to check out the Plains of Abraham and depending what time of year you'll be up there they have a large ice slide set up alongside the St. Lawrenece river, it's a ton of fun.

Also there is usually skating in the old town, you can rent ice skates there and enjoy maple syrup on snow cones, it's a nice way to pass an hour.

DS grade 8 class will also be there around that time--no definate date yet, but there are a large number of our grade 8 kids in the city that attend.
