Canada/New England Cruise-A couple questions

I get what you're saying, but dear lord... I was more than ready to jump ship after only a 7-day cruise on HAL. Cannot imagine 10 days more.

Haha yeah if it wasn't for the amazing ports all over Europe we were visiting I would have been ready to jump ship too! Lol Holland America is not my favorite! But then again that was my very first cruise so I didn't really have much to compare it too:P

It was the running group I was with that kept me sane. :flower1:

Does anyone know what it's like to get off the ship at Saint Johns? Do they check your bags and are passports needed? I'm wondering if I can bring some snacks. Thanks

When I got off there was no bag check and they only scanned your KTW. Only when I got on did my passport get looked at and my bag xrayed. If you have no passport, they look at your drivers/non drivers license.

I was also on the Oct 2 cruise but based on the comments above, I'm wondering if we were all on the same ship, though overall I agree with the comments

Going ashore you have your KTTW scanned. On your return, Canadian security will check your KTTW (to make sure you are a DCL passenger), and your ID (to make sure you are you).

Some foods are prohibited - basically only pre-packaged snacks are allowed. Some people had their bags checked, but it seemed to be random. CM told us Canada would charge a hefty fine if caught with fresh fruit, meats, etc (seemed similar to US Customs). You really don't need to take snacks ashore as there are plenty of places to get them. Even DW, who is GF, was able to find something without difficulty. The St John City Market has lots of fresh fruit and other snacks.

@Geomom @msmama @Pens Fan @IBelieveInTheMagic @MaleficentRN thank you all so much for your advice!! We decided to go for it and I booked us this morning! Went with the 5 day instead that leaves Sept. 27th and stops at Bar Harbor, Maine and St. John's. So looking forward to it!! Thanks for your words of wisdom!
I know what you mean, but you are going to Saint John, New Brunswick. St. John's is in Newfoundland - another lovely Canadian port.
