This was a free day for us, as tomorrow we headed out from Banff on the Rocky Mountaineer Train to Vancouver.
I was up at 6, and peered out the balcony to see something in the hotel gardens ...
We had breakfast, headed out on the bus to the Gondola, and rode up to the top. Superb views of Banff and the Rocky Mountains. We saw some mountain goats as well. The weather was more overcast and cold, but we didn't mind.
We then returned back to the town, and got ourselves a sandwich, and decided to walk along the Bow river trail, and try to find the railway station for tomorrows train ride.
At the small station we asked how often the freight trains came by, and the guy said about every 20 minutes, and as the Canadian trains are so impressive we decided to wait to see one. While waiting there were some more elks.
2 hours later it turned up and we were not disappointed, it sounded its horn, and nearly 140 carriages went by, it took over 3 minutes for it to pass us, we were well chuffed to have seen it, well worth the wait.
By this time it was late afternoon, so we walked back to the hotel, and went in the Spa, which was lovely, poor room décor but the spa pool thing was top notch!. We also did some laundry as I had run out of 'smalls' !!
We then caught the bus back to town and ate at a greek restaurant, and the food here was really nice, lovely window seat view of the mountains, a few beers, great food and in the middle of Canada's wilderness. It had been a superb day again.
