Has anyone done the fall 6 night cruise NYC/ New England/Canada ? I am thinking about booking sine the discount has opened. How cold does it get ? Have folks enjoyed it ?

Won't really be cold. Crisp air rather - at worst, chilly out in the open waters. But that's the small price you pay to see those spectacular fall colors in Eastern Canada and New England.

Eh, you never know. Sometimes it's nice, sometimes we get a blizzard in October.

Not sometimes. Blizzards in October along that coast are rare.

Inland at higher elevations - sure.
Sure, actual blizzards are rare. But very cold temperatures aren't. The weather in September/October is very variable here. The average is quite nice, but we almost never get that anymore.

And I guess you'll have to define "cold", too. The nighttime temperatures are usually in the 30s and 40s in October. That's pretty cold, to me. Daytime temperatures are usually in the 50s, but sometimes you'll get days in the high 60s or low 40s.

Yes, the average is misleading in the northeast in the fall. The last few years, it's been well above it in September/October. Varies quite a bit. But, as always, you will find fall weather miserable only if you aren't properly dressed for it.

Of note, the changing temperatures and receding sunlight are needed to turn those leaves red and yellow.

How much of the fall colors do you actually get to see?

If you can visit inland from the ports - and time it right - there should be plentiful.

Maple trees have the most dramatic changes, so look for higher elevations in national and state/provincial parks in New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, and Maine. Quebec will be even more colorful, but DCL doesn't go there anymore.

Here is where to from the port of Saint John:

Thanks for all the responses ! Its great to hear from you - I have always wanted to see Halifax. I saw next years Canadian cruise is only 4 nights I would definitely want a longer one.

@Sophiesmom Where did you see the discounts for the 6 night Canada/New England cruise? I looked on the site at the 35% off cruises out of New York and only saw Bermuda ones. Was it a Florida or Military discount or one of the 35% off ones? TIA

I don't see it in the offers list, either. If you go to the cruise and try to select a room, there's a VGT for a 5C, but it seems to be the normal price ($5320 for two guests).

We did the 4 night Canada cruise in 2018 and had rain and near-freezing temperatures the entire time. It was sleeting in Saint John. That said, it was GORGEOUS and we had such a great time. We just bundled up, wore rain jackets with hats and gloves, and rolled with it. Rented a car in Saint John and drove up the Fundy Parkway in search of fall colours. We loved it so much that we booked a two week trip to New Brunswick and PEI for summer 2020, which was unfortunately cancelled by covid so we haven't gotten there yet.

There were lots of UNHAPPY cruisers on our ship, though, who were trying to tour in ponchos and flip flops because they hadn't packed for the weather.

I think I saw that next year's cruise is only going to Saint John, no Halifax stop...which is...not ideal. Speaking as someone who is biased by living in Halifax ;)

We have been on the NY to Canada cruises a few times. Definitely pack for colder weather! Actually, we looking at the 6 night one too. I LOVE when DCL is in NYC. So much easier for us as no flying involved and we are only about 30 minutes from the port. Win, Win!!

That’s exactly why we are looking at it. It’s a 2 hr ride to NYC. We jumped in and booked this morning. I’m very excited. We will plan for colder weather. We have only been on the Dream and Fantasy, so we need to learn about the layout on the Magic. I hope the tender boat in Bar Harbor isn’t intimidating.
