Ugh. It will be another uncertain season for the Port of Halifax with no ships.
I figured it would happen when the NS to Maine ferry season was cancelled.

I am not surprised but sad regardless. So many people hurting......we were scheduled for June 2020 - Alaska cruise tour. Not sure if and when it will happen.

Vancouver will be a ghost town for another summer. Each cruise ship brings in about $3 million to the local economy.
It will be devastating for Vancouver travel industry. And Victoria. The cruise ship terminal employs so many people. My friend was in charge of 2 Holland America ships while they are in port. Everything from the airport to the time they sail. She had a staff of over 100, and that was just for her ships plus all the dock workers.
I wonder if our cruise industry will ever recover. Seattle could expand and take over Alaska cruises.

Unless they get rid of the Jones Act in the USA it is a law that cruise ships leaving from the USA have to stop at an international port before returning to the USA so without Canadian ports all of Alaska is shut down for cruising unless they change the law (which is doubtful).

I know it sucks for the economy but seeing how Covid is spreading in the NHL on the US teams it makes sense to do it.

Have any players died? There are ways to keep the world moving without people dying. Having people able to retire at 65 by strengthening CPP would help but alas they got rid of an employers right to force retirement at 65 and CPP isn't enough to live off of so people need to work into old age putting themselves at risk

Jones Act is actually for cargo, it's the Passenger Vessel Services Act that pertains to cruise ships. Pretty much the same rules apply though. I read online that the govt can waive the PVSA in matters of National Defense. Don't think a pleasure cruise is a matter of National Defense ;)

According to Cruise Critic, there are some politicians in Alaska who are pretty cranky about the extension. More fun and games with Covid...
