Canada 150 Buttons-Who Should Get One?

What a sweet idea!

As a Canadian, I would feel honoured if I saw any of my American Disfriends walking around wearing the button- it would feel like they are supporting our b-day celebration and wanting to be a part of offering congratulations on making it this far ;).

Just another perspective!

I have one and had to show my passport to get one. Cast members were very much only giving them to Canadians when I went in November.

But yea, if you have to answer Canadian trivia to get one. They won't be handing out a lot.

Had no idea what the OP was talking about till I clicked the link. I don't understand why they would celebrate at Epcot but only give buttons to citizens? Then go home to Canada and celebrate! Trying to be exclusive like that at WDW really bugs me. But, if you want to charge admission and have an after-hours Canadian-only party, go for it.

I think I may boycott the Canada section next time I go, I bought my beer in England when I listened to the Canadian entertainment last time.

If I said what I really want to say in response to this, I'd probably get in trouble with the moderators. The Canadian Pavilion, like 10 of the 11 pavilions at Epcot has no financial, cultural or physical relationship with the Government of Canada or any Canadian company or person. The decision to honour an important year for the country in question was made by the American Walt Disney Resorts with rules enforced by the American Walt Disney Resorts management. So you might as well boycott the whole resort, because every part of it is just as responsible for the decision.

Wow...for us Canadians 150 years is pretty special. Nothing to get your panties in a bunch over. It's just a silly pin.

I'm Canadian and live in Las Vegas. I'll be sure to get one on my February visit.

I have read in several places anyone will get the pin. you will be asked a trivia question to get one

It says in the article anyone can get one. I think it says "everyone is invited to join the fun and answer a question." I don't get the big deal? I'm sure if you can't answer the question, they will help you and give you the button anyway. I don't think they are protecting precious buttons and keeping them away from non-Canadians, it's just for fun.

I got two sets (one in English and in French) in November when they first came out to give to Canadian friends. I was not asked for i.d. or trivia, they just gave them to me

Did you read the blog comments? That's where the negative reports are coming from.

Hmm.. so is this a miscommunication perhaps to the CMs stationed at the Pavillion?...or a little bit of what yulilin3 mentioned?

I think I would be annoyed if I saw that anyone was able to get it (where there didn't appear to be fine print either) but was barred from getting one.

FWIW IMHO the button should be given to anyone..and that goes for all Pavillions. I'm trying to envision how it would come off if the button was only allowed to be given to American citizens at the American Adventure Pavillion for example.

I think Canada is just "assuming" that the Button was clearly designed just for Canadians because of the "Hometown" space.

The "intention" by Disney may be for everyone to get one, but,in that case, the "Hometown" space should not be on the Button.JMHO:)

We picked up our buttons tonight. The cm said they were only for Canadians. We didn't get asked any trivia questions, just our citizenship.

I totally get that too.

It could be though (just thinking out loud) that the hometown was meant as a general "hey just put where your home town is to represent so to speak" Either way..I feel like though questions should have been asked and procedures clarified prior to actually handing out the buttons. Questions like "Hey only for Canadians?? Or for all? Should people just put where they are from even if not from Canada? What's the procedure here" IDK just offering up my perspective here.

It's a huge negative PR to have Disney Blogs say one thing and then to go in to the Pavillion trying to get one and get denied.
