I know they are allowed in the water parks, but can you keep your water shoes on when swimming in the resort pool?

Thanks for any help :)

I hate touching the bottoms of pools, lakes etc. I wear them all the time - to the pool, in the pool and on the slides. I wear them at the water parks and on all slides - I do not to the big drop slides, those you do take them off.

OP, I know you said you would not wear them on the slide but if you change your mind I would ask the life guard. I remember a post on these boards regarding a man who wore them on the slide at the Poly and he was told not to do so by a life guard. It was quite a heated debate on here because of the way he was told not to do it.

Just a FYI

Thanks for letting me know. It was for DH really - it's the only way we can get him to come swimming with us. He definitely won't want to go on any slides :)

Ok, I hope you and your family enjoy the pools:)

Does anyone know if the rules have changed or can point me to the pool rules? I’ve tried googling but just get the generic Disney website.

I’m at Old Key West and a lifeguard just told me I couldn’t go in with water shoes. I have to wear them due to foot pain without a constant surface on them. So now I’m sitting on the side while my family is swimming.

From what I’ve gathered is there are no water shoes allowed on the slides. That’s consistent with what I’ve experienced at other pools.

During one of our trips, we were also told that no water shoes are allowed on the slides for safety reasons. Which I agree with.

were you told you couldn't have them in the pools as well or just the slides? I wasn’t trying to go on the slide.

I'd go straight to the front desk and ask for a manager. Have never ever heard this regarding the pools.

All of our experiences at water parks is that our shoes were allowed on all but the big drop slides. Never had issues at resort slides.

I don’t know about water shoes specifically, but chances are anyone at the resort would not contradict the lifeguard. A lifeguard generally has final say on safety rules at the pool. I would suggest that you could politely ask the lifeguard why they don’t allow watershoes. It might help to understand. (As a former lifeguard, I’m at a loss on the “why” unless maybe some watershoes get slippery.)

It may be case by case and depend on the shoes at issue. There are some kinds of water shoes that are very flimsy--soft flexible sole and stretchy material on top, that you basically pop on right before the pool. My kids have worn these countless times and never been told not to. There are other water shoes that are more "active" water shoes and are basically a sneaker that is designed for hiking in rivers, but can also be used on land. I could see a lifeguard saying no to those as a sanitary issue if they look like shoes the wearer might have been walking all around the pavement at the parks in.
