Can you watch current football games on the ship?

Games have always been a point of contention for us on the ship. We've had instances where we've started watching a game (opening day for baseball) which was advertised as playing in the Navigator, only to be kicked out halfway through because they were starting at DVC presentation. We've tried to watch games and told they needed to turn them off for overflow for the entertainment in the other room. We've had similar issues as above where we've been watching a game and had them turn it to another sporting event - it had to be the same game on all the screens.

I've made comments on this on the comment card for probably 4 of our 7 cruises, going back to 2003. It's obviously never going to change. We'll keep trying, but our expectation is that we won't get the games we want.
This would be another excuse for my non-Disney loving DH and DS to not want to pay ultra-premium prices for Disney cruises!

My DH and DS would probably be "thrown in the ship's brig" if someone turned off their game five minutes before it was over, because I am afraid they would turn that person "off" in a not too nice way! Especially if they had been in there paying all along! It was just rude to change channels from a show anyone is already watching without notice or permission! I can't believe Disney condoned this! Me, I could care less about football when I am on a tropical cruise but DH and DS are going along to please me and DDIL for the most part!

Yup that was the entire point. My brother was probably close to that point. LOL..ME I love football but was not spending my very short cruise watching a game unless I happened to be an area it was on.

do they do anything special for the superbowl? I believe we board on superbowl Sunday!

Last month on the Fantasy my husband was able to watch games he wanted in the sports bar, but not in our room. I joined him briefly to watch and had to listen to some random schmo complain nonstop about having to leave to get dressed for formal night (they apparently had early seating) and being mad about it. He even admitted his wife had given him a "pass" to skip formal night but instead of taking her up on it, he *****ed about dinner, the cruise and his wife to a couple of random strangers.

So you may get to watch football. You may also get to listen to random whiny babies. Just like a sports bar back home, I suppose. Lol.

No they complained immediately but were told they couldn't change it back for some stupid reason. My brother left while I sat there for a bit as I was finishing my drink and when I left 15 minutes later another person was complaining still to another CM that it was not right they couldn't switch it back to the ESPN channel it was on. It did not end on a light note whatsoever and my brother did mention it to guest services how he didn't appreciate what had happened.
Yuck! That stinks! However, the Royals won (yea, go Royals) and you didn't miss anything with the football game. :)

BTW. I cruise to get AWAY from TV.

Yep there is usually a "tail-gate" party and then the play it on every t.v. weather and satellite permitting. They don't play the commercials though. We sailed on Superbowl Sunday and didn't pay attention to the game (I got engaged that night actually!) but you could walk into any bar and watch the game.

When sailing over New Years a couple years ago, they played the bowl games on the FunnelVision during the day. So there's hope. :sunny:

Yes they do, we were on the wonder 2 years ago for the super bowl and they played it on the big screen above the pool! They also set up a buffet with wings and other football food, it was fun!

We are sailing over Thanksgiving so really hoping to be able to watch the osu vs Michigan game!

No CBS on board so that would be a no
Almost definitely a no. We wanted to watch a game last Sunday that was on CBS and weren't able to. :(

On Our cruise on the Fantasy Sept 19th they played the NFL games on CBS on Sunday and The Thursday night NFL game was also televised on CBS on the ship. Both in the sports bar and in the cabin as well as up on deck on the big screen. What they told us they couldn’t play was FOX NFL games. They also played the Sunday night game and the Monday night game. There was a lot of football to watch that week.

Boo! That's not what they told us.

Oh well, I didn't care about it all that much to being with (my brother was pretty bummed though).

This was our experience, as well. My DH watched the Bengals game on the Magic last week (in O'Gills), which is usually aired on CBS. The Navigator advertised Sunday night football, also in O'Gills, and I was able to watch the Steelers game Monday night in our stateroom (ESPN, of course).

The impression I got was that DCL had to negotiate for the rights to receive various broadcasts. It's not a blanket prohibition on Fox so much as that it probably didn't make business sense for DCL to negotiate for regular-season NFL games on Fox when they were able to get CBS rights. For "big" games (playoffs, Super Bowl, high-profile college games and bowl games) my guess is they'll pay for access to those.

The pubs onboard are perfect for watching games - not crowded, close restrooms, free wings/foods...

With that said, last year we went to whatever the pub was on the Wonder and were the only patrons. We ordered drinks and got a plate of wings and asked them if they could switch to ESPN. They wouldnt switch to EPSN which was airing the Buckeye game b/c the bar tender and various CMs were watching soccer... :/

As we finished our drinks and wings, another larger group came in and asked them to switch it and they did. Power in numbers, I guess...

Our very first Disney cruise was on the Dream in January of 2013. The National Championship game came on and my husband (an Auburn fan) was dead set on watching Alabama play in the championship. I don't remember who or how we were told about where we could watch the game on the ship, but we ended up sitting with a group of Auburn and Alabama fans at the pool watching the championship game on FunnelVision!! That was the coolest thing to be in the middle of the ocean watching a jumbo screen of the game! Last year on the Wonder (Nov 2014) my husband struck up a conversation with one of the guest entertainers and turns out the entertainer is a huge Auburn fan so they both were trying to figure out how they were going to watch the big Auburn game on and the plan was to watch it in the sports bar but my husband actually ended up watching it in our stateroom. So, I think as long as you can find a few other SEC fans (ummm, you'll see them with their game gear on game day so you will know who is also looking for the game - hahaha), one of them will at least steer you in the direction of where to find the game.
