Can you walk me thru getting to Trunk Bay on our own? Do you recommend?

The chairs were $5 last time we were there (last year). One thing to add to this excellent post is to purchase two sets of tickets (round trip) at the Red Hook ferry terminal. Makes life that much easier on the way back.

Thank you! Can you remember how much the ferry tickets were? How long did you stay and were you nervous about the timing of the return the whole time you were on the beach?

We hustle off the ship early and try to make it over to St. John on the 8AM ferry (brow opens at 7:45 so it's tight). The ferry leaves right on time - no island time here! We have an all morning beach time, before getting a taxi back to Cruz Bay and having lunch/browsing. Great beer & a really neat spice store there. Anyway, we take the 2 PM ferry back to St. Thomas because by then, kids # 1, 2 & 3 are done and want to vedge in the Edge (see how I did that! My kids think I'm a dork, shows what they know). Anyway, leaving Cruz bay on the 2 o'clock gives us plenty of time to casually get back to Havensight Pier with time to spare for the 4:00 all aboard. Spacing it out like this with built in spare time (just like driving through traffic) significantly reduces the stress level. Taxis are plentiful. Usually, you can get a pick up time from the drive who dropped you off. Just let him know you want to be picked up at 12, or whatever time and he'll be there. Usually.

If you've not been to St. Thos, Havensight shopping is fine for tourist-y stuff, or the usual Caribbean haul of watches, jewelry & booze. Last time, my wife was purchasing something for her sister and the cash register lady offered her a sample size rum. "No, thanks," DW replied. "We won't be able to get it through security."

Shaking her head with a dismissive gesture, the shop lady said in a deep carib drawl, "Missus, they don' fin' theees, the bottle, she's plastic." After a knowing wink, she gave it to DW gratis.

DW was stunned so she pocketed the mini. You know what, they didn't find it. Shhhhhh!

Anyway...

How long of a cab ride is it from Havensight to Red Hook Ferry?
I had nixed the 8am ferry because I figured 15 min wasn't enough to get there. I'm planning for the 9 which still gives us 3 hours of beach time.
Also how long of a cab ride is it from Cruz Bay to Trunk (and/or Cinnamon) Bay
