Can you walk between the cruise terminal and rental car center?

We have an upcoming cruise on the Wish and I know the rental car places have shuttles, but is it possible to just walk between the rental car offices and the cruise terminal? Google maps acts like you may not be able to walk over the bridge and I can't tell from satellite if there are pedestrian paths on it or not. Has anyone ever done this or know for sure? My internet search skills haven't turned up a definitive answer.

In looking at the satellite view, it doesn't look like there pedestrian walkways across the bridge closest to the port. Even if there were, I'd say it's fairly long walk from where the rental car offices are to the port, about 3.5 miles.

On the Google map, when I ask for a walking route it takes me south from the rental car places, west and then north through Courtenay then east and back down south (35 miles).

You didn't say which service you were using. Avis is way down the road, while Enterprise "looks" like it is close. That whole area is highways. I wouldn't want to walk it. I have walked back to the Hilton Homewood Suite from Budget, but I wouldn't want to try to get across the bridge to the terminal.

Avis and Enterprise have fast shuttles. Budget always seems to have a million people lined up so you'll probably have to wait.

National. It wasn't so much the waits, etc. on the shuttles, just if we would have the option if we wanted too as we generally don't mind long walks. I was thinking it was closer than 3 or so miles though, but maybe not. I did confirm via street view there is pedestrian walkway on the bridges. There looks to be sidewalks from the rental center most of the way, except on the lead to the bridges.

You might be okay to get to the bridge, but once you get up there, I don't think there are only paths - nor are there any until you get into the port. This is where you'd be walking:

I looked at the street view. I'm not sure what you're seeing are actually pedestrian walkways. Certainly there's no barrier between the concrete raised area and the roadway there. That would make me nervous.

Also no walkway on the port end of the bridge into the terminal area. You'd be walking on the grass.

The avis is a franchise. We had a hire with them and only got our car because we did an express walk off the boat with all our luggage and got a taxi to the premises. The shuttle buses dont actually start running for avis until 8, when we got our bus to the terminal before the cruise the staff were heavily hinting for tips which can be off putting. When we got there i heard the staff saying ‘we’ve got 22 mini van reservations and only 5 mini vans’ and laughing about it to each other, so that gives you an insight into the mindset that customer service may not be the priority.

There really isn't a "Rental Car Center" in Port Canaveral. From what I recall, each car rental company has their own land and buildings along the road and can be quite a long ways away down A1A. This isn't MCO. Navigating the port area on foot won't be all that easy.

The bridge itself appears to have a walkway. I did see it would just be grass on either side of it, which wouldn’t be ideal.

I am aware there isn’t a rental car center. Several of them are located next to each other so I just used that term.

The walking conditions don’t concern me a ton, but the distance is perhaps a bit longer than I thought. I was thinking maybe a mile or so but that isn’t the case.

The staff at Avis? That's weird. I haven't had that experience. Unless you mean the bus driver? Yes, I'd tip him if he handles my luggage.

It's illegal for pedestrians to walk on some highways and ramps in Florida. I do not know if that is the case for the path you are planning but this is something you may need to consider.

The highway to the closest car rentals (National, Alamo, Enterprise) which are in the same building is not pedestrian friendly. Take a taxi or their shuttle. Don't walk it.

I meant what i meant, both in the place and on the bus. Agree if they lift your bags etc then great, we didnt have bags, dropped them off before.

Are Uber/Lyfts easy to get from the port to the car rental places? We have a reservation with Avis and planed tot ale the shuttle but I’ll take an Uber/Lyft if that’s faster.

The bridge is not pedestrian-accessible. You should take the shuttle bus or use a cab or Uber.

Drop off luggage and family first. Then return car. One person without luggage can get on a shuttle much quicker than a whole family with bags.
Yes, yes. Back when . . . DW and I had a plan, which usually (not always) worked.

Embarkation: Drop her and son and all that luggage except my hand-luggage w. ID's, etc. off at Port as if I was a taxi, and then speed on down to the rental car drop-off. Eventually, 15~35mins later, the rental car shuttle bus would get me back to the Port and, as a solo w/out luggage, could move expeditiously and join them in the Departure Hall.

Disembarkation (sort of the opposite): I would walk off the ship early with hand luggage and ID's and head towards the rental car shuttles, or take a taxi if necessary. Often, I'd be among the first rentals of the day, and get our vehicle and drive it back to the Port and meet my wife and son and their luggage. They would pay a Porter to help get our luggage positioned at the right location. Well worth it, to get the worm (an extra hour at WDW).
