Can you "visit" the beaches?

I know you are allowed to visit resorts even if you are not staying, aside from the pools. But what about the beaches? My girls really want to go to the beach this year, really more than WDW (go figure!) but we'd like to take the chance to take them to WDW again while they're still little. I know its for all ages, but there is a special magic to taking young ones, kwim? DH wants to stay at a value resort, but I had thought it would be nice to stay at CBR and get the best of both worlds. Although I do have to say it seems the value resorts carry more Disney in their theming. If a moderate is not an option for us, would we be allowed to visit the beach at CBR?

OH, and we really did not want to do the water parks as we'll be going in Nov (too cold for us to swim as we're used to warmer weather)and try to stick w/more WDW specific activities.

Yes, you can visit the other resort beaches. But keep in mind that you're not allowed to go in the water! You can play in the sand, or sit on the beach to watch the fireworks from the MK resorts, but that's it.

How about a day trip to one of the coasts? You can drive over to Cocoa Beach (Atlantic side) in about an hour. Or you can go to the Gulf coast in a little more than an hour!

you can visit just tell the security guard you are shopping or eating.

eating can be fun here - I think CBR still does the sand bucket and shove for little kids.

If you end up staying at a Value, then why not visit the beach at either the Poly or GF, before or after visiting the MK. Or the Beach Club, when taking a break from Epcot. I'm just suggesting this because you could visit a beach without making a special trip to the CBR via a bus or car. If was looking to hang out at a resort beach, I think I would pick the Poly, because of the view of MK, and the overall theme of the resort.

I don't want to take over this thread or anything, but spiceycat what is this? We are thinking of staying at CBR in Dec. My DS loves the beach and anything to get him excited about going to CBR would help!

I guess I got stuck on the CBR because that was the alternate lodging I was considering if possible. And I was under the impression it had a larger beach area than the others. That's a good idea about watching the fireworks from the Poly or other closer resorts. I would love to get to stay at the Poly as I think my DD would get a real kick out of the volcano pool, and I would love the monorail access and proximity to MK (my favorite, LOL). But its just not possible, especially when for the difference we could do 2 trips.

FYI there are alligators in the waters of Disney. Just be alert and stay away from the water's edge.

Another thing to remember. Technically, the right to the beaches belong to the guests of that resort. At some holiday times, they will not allow non-Polynesian guests on the Polynesian beach for fireworks.

I don't think it is a big deal to visit the beaches of other resorts. No different than walking the grounds. Just as another posted, during some really popular times, they may restrict it. Heck, at WL we even play in the water but only slightly above ankle deep. But that you do at your own risk (alligators), CM's never had a problem with it as long as we weren't too deep.

Another thing to remember. Technically, the right to the beaches belong to the guests of that resort. At some holiday times, they will not allow non-Polynesian guests on the Polynesian beach for fireworks.

We stayed during Peak season, concierge, and CLEARLY on the beach were locals who set up camp on the beach....it wasn't a big deal. No where in sight was anyone with any authority to say otherwise. We could even here the goings on from our balcony when we went in. (they also went back and forth to the pool)

That is just wrong. Management needs to do something about that type of behavior.

What about going to the campsites beach and doing the bonfire with the kids at Ft. Wilderness. You could take a bus to MK then ride a boat over to Ft. Wilderness. Spend the afternoon at the beach area, rent a boat, or ride horses, eat at the Wilderness Buffetaria, do the campfire, then go over to MK for the rest of your afternoon?

It really didn't bother me because there was plenty of room on the beach, if there was not a spot, I'm sure I would have said something.

This is also a fun evening! You can ride the boat over, and see the beach. There is a playground nearby, and pony rides for the younger kids (these end pretty early maybe 4 pm so check into it). There is a bus that goes from the marina area to the campfire. You could do the campfire, singalong with chip & dale (and possibly the movie) and then go back to the beach for the fireworks. Just bring bug spray!

The restaurant at FW is Trails End. It's a small buffet featuring friend chicken.

I know on the 4th of July they patrol the beach on ATVs checking for non resort guests and resort ID and they asked several people to leave. They were also checking IDs as people got off the boat from the MK and the monorail.

You are more likely to obtain a water borne infection or illness than a gator encounter. The real issue surrounding the Disney lakes is found in the shallow areas of the lake http://www.ecofloridamag.com/askeditor_waterborne_illness.htm
Be sure to click on the text highlighted in BLUE: water-borne illness in Florida....This is why River Country was closed since it used a mixed water source which included the lake water.
