Can you use points at the BWI?

NO, DVC Points cannot be used at BWI, WL, BC, Value Resorts, Swan or Dolphin.

However, you can use your points at Grand Floridian, Poly, Yacht Club, Contemp., AKL, the campground, Caribbean, Coronado, and Port Orleans. These are part of the Disney Collection, and not a good value for your points, but if you have points to burn, you can use them at those resorts. A room at AKL, for 4 nights including the weekend, will cost you about 160 pts, for example.

I am not familiar with the DVC properties. Which is the nicest to stay at for the value? (points)

Just trying to figure out how this works because not only am I looking to rent some points for my trip in late October, but I am also contemplating purchasing a share.

Are you the same WeatherNLU from saintsreport.com? I'm sure you are, since that's a pretty unique handle.

Anyway, we have been DVC members for a couple of years and love it. In fact, we just got back from a short, last-minute trip Wednesday.

As far as which DVC resort is the nicest for the value, that's a tough question. Old Key West will be the best value and the largest rooms. However, OKW is a little older and further away from the action. It's my opinion that BCV (Beach Club Villas), BWV (Boardwalk Villas), and VWL (Villas at Wilderness Lodge) are all nicer, more conveniently located resorts.

We own at BCV and so far it has been our favorite, but we've stayed at all four WDW properties and the differences between them are minimal. There's something to like about them all. It really comes down to what you need and personal preference.

Please feel free to PM or e-mail me with any questions about DVC. I've got alot of information and links that I can provide for you. Also, feel free to PM me over at saintsreport.com if that works better for you.

Since you are not familiar with DVC, you may not know that you will be unable to rent points for THIS October, since the DVC properties (BWV, BCV, WLV, and OKW) are full for those dates. Besides the golf tournament held in October, DVC is the cheapest during the fall, so all the members go at that time, it seems. I rented some of my points out this year, and if you want to stay in October you will need to arrange accommodations in July, at the latest. You may be able to find accommodations at some of the regular hotels, though. If you do go down, go over to BWV to look at a display unit and get details about what joining costs (about $12,000). It's a VERY low-key selling job, so do not be intimidated about going and asking questions. DVC is very different from any other timeshare presentation you may have attended, and the "guides" (salesmen) are knowledgable, and truthful, for the most part.
