My friend has old bands, can she bring them to us for an off site trip so she doesn't need to use cards?

EDIT* Ah, I see the confusion. The "us" should be "use". Darn mobile device!

Once linked to an MDE Profile, MagicBands are non-transferable.

MagicBands can be re-used by the same individual on multiple visits to WDW.

The band is in her name, but the trip was under someone else's name. Does she need to go to guest services to get the MB and her pass linked?

I just read your first post several times and each time thought, " Huh ? "

Maybe that's why no one has an answer for you...not sure exactly what you're asking. Want to try again?

MagicBands can only be reused by the person to whom they were originally used by. They are linked to the biometric finger print that is taken upon entering the park each time. So, your friend can reuse her old MagicBands if she buys more park tickets and has them linked by Guest Services. Your family cannot use her family's MagicBands though.

LOL, I'll try again.

My friend (we'll call her Sue) went on a WDW trip last May with some friends, onsite. Got a MB. The trip was booked and paid for by someone else (also on the trip), but obviously Sue's band has her name on it. She still has her MB (who doesn't?) and now she is going on another trip but staying off site and has the card type ticket. Can she bring her MB and get the card type ticket transferred to her MB? She is traveling with two small children and would like to avoid the hassle of getting the card out all the time and would prefer to use her MB.She tried doing it online, but the WDW site told her that the MB was associated with someone else (the person who booked the previous trip).

I told her I thought she could, just go to guest services, but didn't want to give her bad info. Clearer? :)

I don't have a good answer but DVC advised us to use new bands every year because they "don't know how long the battery lasts". Sounded like good advise to me.

That is weird, that the system thinks the MB is associated with someone else. If she used it on the last trip, it should be associated with HER.

MBs have nothing "on" them. They are merely a link to an individual's MDE account, and can only be used by the person who used it originally. So she SHOULD be able to use it again, as long as her ticket is linked to her MDE account.

I've never heard of this issue, so if I were her, I would call Disney to try to get it straightened out before she arrives.

It's associated with the account that set it up. If she did not make a disney account, and just was a sub to a master account of her friend, then it would associate the band with her friend's account. She would need to get a new band, with a new account, and then it would be good for further use by her on future trips. I have been using this one for the last five trips:

Okay, I am honestly confused, but then, I have only used MBs as an individual, so I'm not sure how it works with a group.

So if a group of people only has one MDE account between them, with several individuals linked to it, aren't the MBs assigned to each individual? Who in the group could reuse their MB, just the primary account holder? So no one else can reuse theirs?

To the OP, does your friend have an MDE account? I would think so, since she checked online whether she could link her MB to it.

Can this be fixed by a call to Disney IT? Or are MBs in this scenario just useless after the initial visit?

You don't need to get new bands every year. The long range capability from the battery will go, so ride photos and videos might not link up. But that's after 2+ years of use.

They haven't been out long enough to determine a time frame that the long range stops working. However when it does start to not pick up ride photos, it will still grant access to parks and fast passes

Yes, that is exactly how it works. If you're adding ticketing material to it, it would need to go through the master account... which if your friend bought you a trip to disney might well be willing to do. If not, then the magic band for reusing is useless. I have no experience with associating a band to a new MDE account or whether they can reassign it from IT. It's always worth a call if you have the time.

Ohhhh what did you use on your band? I don't think ours are going to make it this year. Long story short after 4 calls the best they can tell me each time is call back in a week lol If we can find our last year bands I was going to try to re-image them. I love the look of yours!

Thanks everyone! My advice to her will be to CALL WDW and ask, something she has not done as she thinks I have all the answers,LOL!

And yes, her friend had the original MDE account and she tried to add the MB to the MDE account she just crated for this trip. I WISH I had a friend pay for a trip for me, by alas I do not.

"Sue" needs to have the person from that first trip go to their Family & Friends list and click on 'Connect Through a Disney Account' for the entry they have for her. They should use the email address she used to setup her MDE account. She will get a friend request that she will need to accept. Once accepted, her MagicBand and any tickets/passes will transfer from her friends account to hers and she would then be the on in control of those.

The tickets she has now have nothing to do with the previous trip. Just her MB. These new tickets are through her daughters dance company. They are going for a dance "thing" at WDW.

I was just pointing that once the profile that her friend created is connected by using her email to the one she created, anything on her profile that her friend managed would merge over to her own MDE account. If there aren't any active tickets on that friends account, then only the MagicBand would merge over. She can add park admission to her own MDE account.

Ah. I think there is "stuff" on her friends account as the friend is going on a Disney cruise shortly. I assume you would have a MDE for that as well.
