Can you use ME just for your luggage??

we are going in oct to por but we have to rent a car since we are going down for a baseball tournament so my question is can i just take advantage of not waiting for my luggage or do i have to be on the bus too??? I havent been on the boards for a while so im not sure if this has been discussed so any fed back would be appreciated

You have to ride the bus to be able to use the luggage service.

Nope. They will not transport your luggage unless you have checked in and boarded the busses.

You cannot use the inbound Magical Express luggage transfers if you're not using the Magical Express motor coach transportation. They enforce this by not releasing your luggage from the airport until you are scanned onto the motor coach.

There's better news for your return trip. If your airline participates in Resort Airline Check-in, you can get your boarding pass and check your luggage all the way to your home airport -- regardless of how you're getting back to the airport.

My trip in June I arrived at MCO at noon and I was sitting poolside at 1:30 at BC. In August, it was pretty much the same....about an hour and fifteen minutes from landing to resort check-in line.

The luggage is delivered to your room. You don't have to be there.

You should be to your resort within 90 minutes. It literally takes minutes to checkin at the DME desk. If you just missed a bus you may have to wait 15-30 minutes. It's about 35 minutes to WDW and another 15-20 minutes if you're the last stop.

You can rent a car at WDW, National/Alamo at the car center or S/D. You can also split your party have one person get the rental car and the rest of your family takes DME.

So what about the other side of this? Can you get your own luggage both ways and still use the transportation? The other members of my travelling party are skeptical about not being able to keep their luggage with them...

They can have their luggage with them both ways, if they prefer. In my opinion, they will be forsaking the best part of DME, but to each's own. On the trip from MCO to the resort, they will delay themselves by having to wait at baggage claim before boarding a DME bus.

Regarding the trip back to MCO at the end of vacation: if they are flying a "participating airline," they are giving up perhaps the very best perk, which is avoiding any kind of checking in at MCO by checking luggage and getting boarding passes at their resort's Resort Airline Check-in desk. I didn't use a participating airline, and I sure wish I did -- that sounds like a great perk, especially during busy travel times when there are going to be long lines to check luggage.

I agree. They don't keep their luggage with them on the plane, right? So why waste what could be an extra fifteen or twenty minutes waiting for luggage, hauling it to the bus, getting it loaded, getting it unloaded, tipping the non-Disney-Cast-Member bus driver even though Disney takes care of the gratuities for Guests who DO have their bags shipped right from the plane to the room, THEN get in line for DME, THEN get in line for the bus (by which time everybody on your flight who used DME the way it was intended is probably checking into their Resorts), then board the bus...

When you're leaving, as long as you're flying on a participating airline, you don't have to use the transportation to check your luggage at your resort. We had a rental car last June but decided to check the bags at POP before we headed for the airport... we even got our boarding passes. Made dropping the car off so much easier and we just went directly through security to our gate!

Could just one person from your group board the bus so the luggage can go ME? I am curious because most of the time with a couple of teenage girls we are limited to renting a larger car because of the luggage. I wouldn't mind taking the bus which would save us literally a hundred or more on the rental car size.

This is my question too! I don't think you have to be on one of the airlines for incoming. And I heard something about JetBlue now being one of the airlines. Is this true?

Any inbound flight can use the DME luggage delivery service. You put those yellow tags on your bags and say goodby to them at your home airport. Get to MCO, go to DME check-in, get on the bus, and they will deliver your stuff to your room. And yes, I believe JetBlue is now a 'participating' airline. But that only matters for your return home. If you are flying on that 'participating' airline you can have your bags checked directly at the resort. You can check in also so that you go directly to security at the airport. If you are not using a participating airline, you just do what you normally would, except you use the DME bus rather than a cab or towncar. Your luggage goes with you, under the bus.

I'm using the yellow tags & not dealing with my luggage!
