I've read here that you can use points to rent a room at the Grand Californian. Has anyone rented a suite there with points? How do I find out how much that would be?

I'm still considering becoming a DVC member, and I know that using points to stay at the hotels isn't always a good deal, but I want to consider all of my options, especially since I live in California (still waiting for that DVC over here). Thanks!

You can get concierge or non-concierge, but not a suite.

Thanks for the quick reply. We usually get two adjoining rooms at the GC, so I was hoping that points might work toward suites. Oh well!

Here's a basic point chart for the GC at Disneyland for 2006.

1. Standard View
2. Downtown Disney View
3. Disney California Adventure View
4. Concierge - Garden View
5. Concierge - Disney California Adventure View

Seasons:
A. Value: Jan 3 - Apr 6, Apr 23-Jun 29, Sep 3-Nov 21, Nov 26-Dec 21
B. Regular: Jun 30-Sep 2
C. Holiday: Jan 1-2, Apr 7-22, Nov 22-25, Dec 22-31

Points required (daily) per the View # and Season letter shown in the above listings

#....(A)..(B)..(C)
1.....29...37...41
2.....33...42...45
3.....36...44...48
4.....51...62...67
5.....53...66...71

Hope this helps

Thanks for the detailed information! It is very helpful as I crunch my numbers. We've paid as little as $149/night at the GC, but lately the rates are more like $270 + 11% tax + $12/day fee. And that's with a AAA discount. I haven't checked the rates lately, but I think that they are higher. Suites are about $600-800 a night! Egads! Thanks again!

We had a family gathering at the GC last Nov 6th-10th. The best rate I could get was $850 for 4 nights through an on-line travel website. There were no AP discounts for the GC for the week we were going.

I actually asked this same question to a DVC CM when I was making a reservation this past summer. After placing me on hold to check on this, she said that this could be done, but it would be double the points...so at the time it would have costed me 78 instead of 39 per night.

Disneydenise,

You can stay in a suite on points. We used points for a 2 bedroom at the Grand Californian last July. It isn't published. You have to call for rates and it is very very expensive. We loved it though..it was a very nice splurge. :goodvibes

Thanks, boscoj and hulagirl. I've been wondering about this myself and just figured suites were not available since they are not listed on the chart! hulagirl, do you recall how many points it took for your 2BR suite? Does the GC have 1BR suites as well?

There is another URL that has A lot of Disney suite info though not for DL. For some reason it is a banned site from this BBS but if you want it, email me and I can give you the URL.

All I remember Bosco is that it was a boatload of points. We stayed from a Sunday - Friday and I think it was more than 600 points. We purchased a resale with a ton of banked points and splurged one year in order to visit family in CA. It was WONDERFUL! The GC is a beautiful place. I look forward to staying there again someday.
