Can you use an iphone with Virgin?

DD has the $25 a month plan and I hate to pay $35 to upgrade so I told her to choice a phone that can be used with the old plan. She insists the only phones that can be grandfathered are the old outdated ones (her current phone was bought 1.5 yrs ago and cost $150). She said the only thing she wants for Christmas is an iPhone, first she wanted the ipod touch 5th Gen and after talking to friends changed her mind. I was against spending $300 on the Touch since she has a 3rd Gen already but the iPhone is going to cost $120 extra a year PLUS who knows how much to buy.

You cannot use an iPhone on the grandfathered $25 plan. However, I've heard that if you sign up for automatic billing online, you can get a $5 discount on the $35 plan, making it only $30/month.

The phones are very expensive to start, however. You are paying the full cost of the phone up front, instead of having it buried into a monthly charge. Over 2 years, you come out ahead on the VM plan vs. some of the AT&T and Sprint plans, but it is a hefty investment. And it won't match the cost of an iTouch, because the iPhone does more than an iTouch (makes calls, texts, etc )

And only the iPhone 4 and 4s are available through VM. They do not offer the iPhone 5 at this point.

I haven't activiated my plan yet, but I bought a Virgin Mobile iPhone 4S at Target on Black Friday for $450, plus it includes a $100 Target gift card. I was VERY happy getting one for that price. I think I'm going to love it!

Yes you do get the $5 discount. My dh and I have VM. I upgraded to the iphone 4S last summer and went from $25 to the $35 for iphone. I have the auto payment set up that drops it to $30. My dh just got the iphone deal from the Target Black Friday that the previous poster mentioned. We activated it yesterday and same thing, $30 with the auto pay plan.

Just be careful if your phone has an issue - VM does not help you. YOu have to go to an Apple store and get a replacement phone. It took a friend of mine 3 weeks to get service started on the replacement phone.

Have you actually activated your phone and signed up for the monthly plan? That is where the $5 comes off.

My DH has an Otterbox for his iPhone, and that's what I'm ordering for mine.

I got the Otterbox too. My DS's friend dropped his iphone from the top of the bleachers in the high school gym straight to the floor. It was in an Otterbox and didn't have a scratch on it after the drop.

This is what we did with our 11yo daughter. She really wanted a phone and we said we'd pay x amount per month and she had to pay the rest. She's currently saved up enough to cover the next 2 years.

There's a YouTube about dropping and getting them wet with Lifeproof cases but they are $69! Do the Otterbox make the phone really big?

Question on the coverage - I'm looking at the coverage map and there is good coverage in my area, but a lot of places out west show no coverage.

Does that mean there is no coverage there, so if you visited, your phone would not dial out at all?

That's probably a dumb question, but we're on at&t right now and I've never had that happen, but maybe I've never gone to an area with no coverage.
