Can you upgrade from ticket to a premier pass?

We go to WDW every year and possibly twice in 2016 I was wondering since we are considering doing Disneyland at the holidays this year too if it would be worth it as well as if it is possible to do? We arrive in August for 16 days and will be going to Disneyland in December too this year and should be going back to WDW in August of '16 and hopefully in December of '16 too would the pass be valid thru Dec of 2016 or only thru Aug? Also we have our tickets with our package could I upgrade and when on our 10 day tickets should I do so? Thank you for any responses!

I did this in mid-October; I started with a 6-day Magic Your Way ticket and then upgraded it to a Premier AP. I wanted to upgrade to the Premier as soon as possible, so I could take advantage of the AP discounts. I used the MYW ticket once first, so that I could get the price bridged, and then upgraded that afternoon.

The expiration date of the Premier will be based on the first day you used the original ticket. So in your case, the Premier will have an expiration date in August.

It took a little bit of time to do the price bridging and upgrading, but it wasn't at terribly difficult process. Make sure you know about how much the upgrade should cost so that you can make sure they've done the price bridging.
