Can you transfer a reservation?

As I am waiting on hold with Disney, thought this may be the best place to ask this question.

I have 7 nights, in a 2 bedroom in Saratoga Springs from Dec 8-15th.

The possibility of us going on a 3 night Disney Cruise came up leaving on the 13th.

After going through all my point options, it is best for me to pay cash for my cruise.

Can I transfer my reservation on the 13th-15th to someone who may want to use it??? When would I have to do that by? Is there a fee to be paid?
Is the Rent/Transfer post boards the best place to post it?

I can cancel it, but then my points would need to be used by 1/31/08.

Thanks for any help, I am so new to this, and I don't understand the rules yet.

I'm assuming you have a February UY, and if so, you can bank up to 50% of your total by October 31st. Now you couldn't bank them if they were already banked from your last year. However, if you can, just cancel the days you don't want and bank the extra points.

Some of them were borrowed from my Feb 1, 2008 use year. I think that is why I would lose them or I would have to use them by 1/31/08. Does that sound right?? I guess we just won't do the cruise and keep what we have. I don't understand the rent/trade enough to do it.

I would not try to rent out part of your reservation. If you want to go on the cruise, you can cancel those few days from your DVC stay and ask MS to be sure they used the borrowed points for the remaining part of your reservation, and bank the current use year points to next year. Assuming you haven't borrowed MORE points than the remaining nights of your DVC stay would use, of course.

Correct, I did not borrow more points than I needed and as I hung up the phone with member services I can bank all my current use year points except for 6, that wouldn't be bad.

But..why wouldn't I see if someone wanted my reservation that I already have during that time period?? It seems it is a very busy time for DVC and someone could use the reservation that I had made. Like I said before, I dont' know enough about it to do it or not, but just wondering what makes it a bad idea.

I think that you can drop the days from the reservation, but I don't know if you can break the reservation up into 2 parts and keep both of them. That's what you want to do, and then you want to rent the second reservation. If you can break the ressie into 2 parts, fine. However, I think that the disboard rules will not allow you to try to rent an existing reservation more than 30 days in advance. By that time, you are in the penalty period. Now, if you have a friend who would want the second part of the ressie, try to work with member services. I have no experience with taking a reservation and breaking it up...as I said, I have only dropped days.

Exactly, I would not want to rent out part of MY reservation as I would absolutely be responsible for any misdeeds by the renters. You can drop days, but you can't break an existing reservation into two separate reservations, unless there is availablity.

When I called Disney today they said I could put the reservation in someone elses name, and split it up. Now I am really confused

I am going to decide over the weekend and then make a decision to either drop the days or just keep what I have. I may have a family member who would want the days, and Disney did say I could transfer a few days of my reservation to someone else with no fee or penatly. I know there are two bedrooms available for those days on points, maybe that is why they told me I could.

Thanks for everyones help, I guess I could go over to the rent/trade board and see if I could rent them if I can't use them anyways.

You can split a reservation even if sold out, I've done it this fall. It will have to be done manually if the time is sold out. I have let someone else use part of one reservation but it was a friend, I would not do that with a stranger.
