Can you tell when your kid is lying?

Both of my kids have what I call a "lying face." They both just get this certain expression on their faces that I know right away what they're saying isn't true. :lmao: Neither one of them has any idea how I can tell these and I've even shown them the look they get, but they still can't control it.

I'm not saying they never get anything by me, but I think it's hysterical that they do this. What about your kids?

ETA, not hysterical that they lie, just funny that they can't help the lying face.

My kids are horrible liars. Actually its not that but I have picked up on their little quirks that give them away, but there is no way I will ever tell them that ;)

Both of mine are Horrible liars too...but I've come up with a different method for determining truth.

I told them I can tell if they are lying simply by squeezing their thumb. My daughter is a complete believer...if she is lying, she will weakly present her thumb for squeezing(or not at all). If she's telling the truth, she'll proudly stick that thumb out there for inspection. The Boy is a little different...he won;t even let me see the thing if he's lying...he'll stick it right out there if he's telling the truth.

Amazing how well it works. Found out it also works on neighbor kids too. :rotfl:

DS cannot lie to save himself - I can always tell, he doesn't even try.
DD, whole nother story. She is good at it and I am clueless, she scares me she is so good:eek:

I used to be able to tell -- and if you asked me, I couldn't tell you how I knew.

DS16 is getting much better, though... :scared1:

The last time there was a thread about lying it got ugly because some parents claimed that their kids never lie and others didn't believe them. I'm definitely not one of those, I have caught my kids in lies. The definitely have the "lying face"!

I could tell when she was little. When she got older, though, she'd just try to avoid talking to me when she had something going she didn't want to elaborate on because she has a really hard time lying. She just would avoid talking to me at all so she wouldn't spill the beans.

For example, she's in college now, and I can always tell when something is happening that she doesn't want to tell me about because she'll start dodging my phone calls. :lmao: When I finally catch her, I ask, "What are you doing now that you don't want me to know about?"

All of this reminds me of the (excellent) Fox show, Lie to Me.

My older daughter's cheeks get red but she is getting better at it. I can usually tell by the context of the situation if she is telling the truth. My younger daughter has autism and has just learned to lie (which is a fabulous developmental milestone) but she is really bad at it (which is also fabulous ;) )

I can always tell when they're lying to me. They either don't make much eye contact, or they make constant eye contact but they keep blinking a lot. And the story has way too many details. Sometimes they'll make this wide-eyed "can't you see i'm innocent?" look. Dead giveaway.

I just have to stare intensely into ds's eyes while questioning him. He cracks a smile within a second or two. Dd on the other hand is sneaky. She will continue to lie, even when she's pretty much been caught. Frustrating.

Nope. When she was younger yes. But now she can lie without batting an eye.

Sounds like what mine do. DD's eyes get real wide and she'll blink strangely. Whenever DH suspects that she's fibbing he starts to hoot like an owl :rotfl2: because she resembles one.

I could have written this about my DS. When he went off to college I would hear from him several times a day unless something was up and I would make the same call you do! Haha, they might be out of the house but we still know them ;)

Older dd yes and she is in college, however she is taking tips from the younger dd.

My younger dd (7th grade) has a poker face. We tell her she is a future politician.:lmao:

I don't have kids yet but I can spot a "lying face" on practically anyone from a mile away...One of my many talents..;)

i'm still a good liar. I had a conversation with my aunt not too long ago, about this. Apparently she knew when my sister was lying, but never realized half the stuff i did. And i learned from my sister.

Like Judge Judy says:

How can you tell a teenager is LYING?

When their LIPS are moving!! :lmao:

I must have missed that thread.

Denial -- not just a river in Egypt. :lmao:
