Can you tell my daughter about "Tween Spending" at WDW?

This is a question from my 9-year old daughter (who is a planner like me!). She has been saving spending money for our trip this October and it occurred to her that she doesn't really know what she is saving for and how much she should be saving. She knows that she wants to do Pick A Pearl (approx $20+) but what else?

What souvenirs do your Tweens like to buy at WDW?

Thanks so much!!

Is she into American Girl dolls? If so they have a version Disney Doll... but more importantly they have a ton of outfits that fit the 18 inch AG dolls. I can't recall the price... over 20.... but my girls loved them. There is also cool jewelry options and lots of hair accessories. We buy a new hat each year too. It can add up very quickly.

Minnie ears :) I don't know a teen girl yet who doesn't get one. Not the hats, but the headband kind.

Disney has a ton of cute things for girls/ladies. Cute t-shirts, jewelry (the cute mickey bracelets), purses/wallets, flip flops, etc. And if she is anything like my 18 year old daughter who is just an overgrown child....toys and princess tiaras, lol.

ETA: I amost forgot...Perry pillow pets, LOL

Our 9 year old son just saw the Perry Pillow Pets and he went nuts. Guess I know what he is going to be saving his money for! LOL!!!

Thanks for the ideas, I shared them with my dd! I think she is going to have a blast spending her hard earned money!

Our daughter will be 8.5 when we go and she will want everything mentioned in this thread so far.:rotfl2:

While I'm not a tween anymore, I'm certainly not old and absolutely love the accessories they have at Disney. I got a really cute purse with Mickey and Minnie comics on there for about $30. I would suggest having her take a look at the Disney website online (I believe they have a section for park merchandise) so she can have an idea of prices and what she may like while she's there.

Disney has sooooo many things that a 9 yo girl would like. The doll for one, and outfits to go with her. They also have snow globes, pins, jewelry, watches, etc..... Downtown Disney has the huge World of Disney Store, prices are the same there as in the parks, but you get to see a lot of merchandise in one store. :goodvibes

Pin trading is a blast for kids as there are special lanyards for them. She can buy pins beforehand on e-bay and trade them for different pins when she gets there. There are posts about this that you can look at for more details. My daughter collected Stitch pins when she was 10. She is 16 and getting ready for another round in December.

It was around $30, she got it at MK in the shop at the exit of Stitch's Great Escape.

My daughter is about to turn 10 and she used some of her spending money on Vinylmations. Both of my children enjoy pin trading too.

OMG!! I know my daughter is gonna want one of the Perry pillow pets. She will be 10 on this trip. :thumbsup2

My DD 12, loves looking at the knick knacks, at Main Street ,wear they blow the glass...She comes home with nice little things from there. The jewelry store, also on main street has "pandora" beads...carriage, minne etc. She always gets a stuffed animal and a minnie headband/ears; shirt; coloring things; and princess stuff galore... have fun shopping:tinker:

Our DD 12 saves her money for vynalmations, ears, pins, packpacks, jewelry and TShirts, mostly.

My DD insisted on buying a caricature - she's been fascinated with them for the last 2 years. That was about $30. Then she bought an Ariel coin bank. Her fave princess - which is super pretty.

She bought her first pair of dangly earrings - Mickey ones of course! I liked how the clasp worked - easy and comfortable for her (not just the conventional hook). I haven't allowed her to wear dangly earrings before.

At the end of the trip - I also bought her a drawing book on Disney characters. one of the surprise discoveries of our trip was how much she loved the animation classes. We did one at DHS and then she did another 3 more at DisneyQuest.

Hi
I have two teenagers and twin 10 year olds. They love all that was mentioned plus I would tell your daughter that all my kids love autographs. All the characters will sign autographs. You can buy a book and a special pen before you go.

Also the pick a pearl will cost you more than $20 if you want to put it in jewelry.

My kids most favorite thing to do is not that expensive - it is the penny presses. All throughout Disney they have machines that press pennies with different designs on them. Make sure you bring many quarters and shiny pennies. It cost $.51 and they love it. My kids came home with a dozen pennies.

Enjoy your trip!

My 12 DD is doing penny presses, pick a pearl, ears, adding to her charm bracelet (if this is still available) and most likely adding to her Mr. Potato-head collection. We got a lot of pieces last time, but want to add more. She doesn't really play with him - but likes to have all the different accessories.

We took my niece when she was almost 12. She liked the Sammy Duvall (sp?) shop at dtd as they have a lot of the brand name stuff.
There is also a shop near the alladin magic carpet ride that carries some billabong and other brands.
