I saw this in another post :)

has anyone used it? sounds like a GREAT deal!

we are planning on staying at HIFS($79 a night), but this may be better if we qualify?

my mom (who is going with us) works for the Department for Human resources, and my stepdad is a Police Officer, so I think we qualify.

I did a search for Orlando and got around 20 locations, of course some will be out because there will be 6 of us.

any advice? Thanks :)

I have heard positive about the site and I believe they are actually RCI Exchange Company weeks..

Government Employee Travel Opportunities (GETO) is owned and operated by the Cendant Corporation. They (Cendant) were found guilty last year in the largest securities fraud class action recovery in history. In short, I wouldn't trust them or GETO!

Basicly, GETO is a front so they can fill their Days Inn (and other) motel properties at top dollar.

While my wife and I were Federal employees (we are now retired) when we travelled we would call the hotel (or their reservations center) and usually could get the Government rates. This also was for car rentals.

HOWEVER, we always did tell them that we were NOT on official business; usually they still offered us the government rate. Also, we usually had to show out Government ID Cards when we checked into the hotel (or rented the car).

Not sure what that one post was about however this is not Days Inns etc..this is timeshare resorts and I have not seen any complaints about it..

Cendent owns a lot of companies, so you are limiting your choices in a lot of areas if you exclude them. I've done a lot of business with one of their companies for the past ten years with good results. Be a good consumer, as always, but don't write-off a company because of one affiliated branch. JMHO.

I've never rented from the GETravelop site, but I look there often. If you can travel off-season and on short notice, they have some terrific bargains. I am familiar with many of the resorts they use, and many of them are terrific.

I don't use the GETO site, but I use www.afvclub.com it is the same thing, more or less. I have never had a problem....in fact, I have a week booked in early October. All my confirmation paperwork is from the RCI exchange, not Cendant.

thanks so much for the help :)

we are staying Sept 25th - Oct 2nd

here are a few that are available during our stay-

The Seasons

Westgate Vacation Villas

Bryan's Spanish Cove

High Point World Resort

LAGO VISTA AT BUENAVENTURA LAKES

Leisure Resorts Orlando

I looked some up and they are EXPENSIVE so was leary of getting the week so cheap.

we booked at HIFS because we needed cheap for 6 people.

also, it says
no refunds or substitutions should accommodations become unavailable
what does that mean???
you might pay and NOT get a room

at any rate, we have used the program twice with no problems. I don't anticipate any trouble next month. :)

someone posted on another thread about having a resort through GETO for last week,

since the resort did not "actually" close due to the hurricane she was left with trying to get there to use the "week" or was going to be charged 150$ extra to get it rescheduled or lose the initial 249$ payment

we had a skyauction for this week through RCI, since the resort we were going to actually "evacuated", skyauction is now working to reschedule our week

of course, hurricanes are extreme weather events, thus, we are lucky we can reschedule ( but most of these "opportunities" for good rentals through skyauction and GETO are "use it or lose it" situations )

you might want to check out skyauction.com and in particular the ready, set go! auctions which allow you flexibility in "booking" a resort

the ready set go! auctions usually go for about 50$ so your final cost for a week ( similar inventory to what GETO has ) would be 195$ + 50$ + 15$ = 260$ for a weeks rental usually for 2 bedrooms and sometimes 3 bedrooms

if you have any questions about skyauction, there are a number of people who have used them successfully and were happy with the accomodations who would answer any questions you may have

Were there any other choices available? None of those would be my first choice although they arent bad..just there are many nicer ones

lawgs- I'm checking out Skyauctions now :)

DianeV- no, about 20 were available, but most were a maximum of 2 or 4 people.

close you are just missing the processing fee....

195$ service charge/taxes + Bid + 15$ processing fee

so that one would have cost 211$ if it had gone for that....1$

most weeks have the 195 + 15 built into your bid so you are actually starting out at 210$ and then whatever you bid

if you find one of the ready set go auctions you can actually look at what is available ....before you bid and "hold something' in case you win the auction

http://www1.findweeks.com/?cobrand=90946

when you get there

just put

travel to ( West/Central )

your dates

time span

size of unit

then it checks the inventory for you

right now in October for 30 days from the first it come back with 19 resorts with 2 bedroom or better ( you might find this is similar to the inventory you see on GETO )

gotcha, I know it'll go more :) just wanted to see if I had it figured right :)

with all of hurricanes, I'm so scared of booking somewhere that you can't cancel!

would hate to drive all the way from Ohio to be in a hurricane

looks like a good site :)

so with GETO-
the -- no refunds or substitutions should accommodations become unavailable--

that doesnt mean that you may get there and there NOT be a room, just that you can't cancel??

I couldnt figure out what --- should accommodations become unavailable -- meant

I think, if you buy trip insurance you can get your money back if there's a hurricane. Policies and Procedures Policies and Procedures

Cancellation – Space-A Rental Policy

If, for any reason you cancel more than 60 days before your check-in date, your fee will be returned less $75.99 (US) $125.99 (CD). If you cancel 60 days or less before check-in, for any reason, your fee will be returned less $149.99 (US) $249.99 (CD).

No refunds will be made after the check-in date.

Once your check-in date arrives, there will be NO refund or substitution if accommodations become unavailable or you are unable to travel due to personal illness, natural disaster, transportation or labor strike, civil unrest or other events beyond the reasonable control of AFVC.

For protection against possible loss of your reservation fee under the above circumstances, we recommend that you consider purchasing travel or vacation insurance. Click Here for information on travel/vacation insurance providers, policies, and costs.
If you find that you cannot travel and know someone who would like to take the trip, rather than losing $75.99 (US) $125.99 (CD) or $149.99 (US) $249.99 (CD), you have the option of transferring the vacation to another person's name for only $49.00 (US) $65 (CD). Click Here to learn more about this option known as a Guest Certificate.

Cendant is HUGE! They are involved in marketing, vehicle rentals, leases and fleet services, travel companies, motels and hotels and they're BIG in real estate too!

However, Cendant also has been found guilty of fraud and deceit by the United States Court system. Over the years, I have dealt with many of the Cendant subsidiaries and in my experience, I wouldn't trust any of them as far as I could throw them!

I made a simple rule last year. If it's a Cendant company, then I don't do business with them!

Did you know that the federal government used Wright Express for a very short time back in the early 1990's?
