Can you take tram to Castaway Cay 5k starting line?

Ok, I'm embarrassed to ask this...but can you take the tram to the Castaway Cay 5k starting line instead of walking there? Has anyone done that? I've done the CC5k once several years ago, it was so hot and walking that extra mile to the starting line was not so pleasant.

I have not seen that done in the 3+ times I have run it. I think we were off the ship too early for that. And we basically stayed together as a group. Pausing only for drop offs at childcare and right by the restrooms before the start. It is not really a timed race. You can really start when you want, so I suppose if you wanted to wait for the shuttle, take it to the start and then run after everyone has started, you could do that. Maybe someone else will chime in?

My daughter (15) wants to do this on our next cruise. I would love to know as well. The reviews I saw said you had to walk but would like a definite answer.

When we were there in December, we took the shuttle to Pelican Point and the CC 5K group was still at the starting line. We weren't running the race, but definitely could have joined the group if needed. Not sure if this is the norm, that's the first time we've been off the ship early enough to run into the group.

We did the CC 5k in November and they specifically told us before hand not to take the tram to the starting line.

When I did the 5K in October, the walk to the start was referred to as the "warm-up." Perhaps in the past folks not used to doing a 5K weren't warming up at all and were getting injured? Just a guess.

I thought the walk there was kind of part of the 5K as the actual track is not a full 5k. Anyway, when I did it we were a bit late getting started and for sure the trams were running. I think it depends on how big your group is and how early you start off the ship.

The tram of shame it is called, where runners hurl cabbage and insults at its occupants as they ride by to the starting line.

At least they don't do to them what Appalachian Trail hikers do to the Cog riders on Mt. Washington... (Warning: Don't look it up at work) ;)

I’m curious about the idea that the CC 5K track is not a full 5K. I’ve seen references to this a number of times previously. I did the 5K twice this month, on b2b 5-night cruises on the Magic. I used the MapMyRun app on my iPhone to track my time and distance. Both trials ended up just over 5K, 5.12 Km and 5.09 Km. I suppose it may depend slightly on where you measure. I took the “longest” path, since I intentionally did the bike loop on the far right hand side of the path, rather than in the center to stay out of the way of anyone who wanted to pass me. I’ll be back at CC in November on a Fantasy cruise. I’ll try to remember to take along my dedicated Garmin GPS to run a crosscheck (no pun intended).

It's just shy of 5k. My husband's Garmin got 3.03 miles-- but we pretty much try to run the shortest line if possible (i.e. not running wide around the outside of a curve).
They don't count the walk from the ship as part of it.
It's actually not a bad idea to walk to the start, so you sort of get your body and heart warmed up, rather than jumping off a tram and into activity.

It’s not a full 5k. Promise. :)

When you do the once a year paid 5k after marathon weekend, you find that they use a different course that IS a 5k.

Remember, it’s typical that people track longer than a course is measured to, because few of us run the course as measured. I can end up with nearly 14 miles on a Half if I’m weaving around. Doesn’t mean the course is that long.

I ran it this week and tracked it at 3.09 (I walked back to photo the clock to get the .10) so it was pretty accurate. I did stick to the ‘right’ in the loops as told so if you stuck to the left it may be shorter..
