Can you take outside food on planes?

I plan on packing snacks and all when we go if we decide to fly. It is still up in the air :lmao:
We were going to drive but it may not save that much money, and will tack on two days!

I noticed on a couple of threads people pack water/soda into their check in luggage. Have many of you done this? I was thinking of doing it, with some bottles and put them in a lock'n'lock container so that if they spilled, they would be contained.
We would probably only need 12 since we are only going to 4 nights/5 days.

weight restrictions on checked luggage might be an issue

You wouldn't believe the food i've seen people take through security. Recently saw a guy put a half eaten sandwich through the X-Ray machine, pick it up on the other side, and keep eating. As others have said though, anything that's not a solid won't make it. So, no yogurt, mayo, peanut butter, etc.
