Can you still get a Key to the World Card instead of a Magic Band?

Countdown is less than 48 hours until we are in the air headed to the Mouse's house and the Wife just told me she hates the magic band (she hates anything that rubs her wrists, never wears a watch). I was under the impression that we could still request a key to the world card to use as a traditional room key, but the search function here at the Dis has not turned up an answer to my question. Does anyone know?

You can. Some of the front desk CMs don't know that it's possible and will say no. You may need to ask for a supervisor.

You can also get a card at any ticket booth or Guest Relations at the parks, or at TTC, or at DTD.

Weirdly, it's under the privacy info of MB:

Are all guests required to participate in MyMagic+?

Guests can enjoy admission to the parks without having to participate in MyMagic+, register on the My Disney Experience website or provide any personal information. Guests who choose to participate in MyMagic+ and register on My Disney Experience will be able to use the FastPass+ service, make dining reservations online, and enjoy the convenience of having their tickets, FastPass+ selections, Resort room access and other enhanced features all in one place. Guests participating in MyMagic+ always have the option to use a card instead of a MagicBand. Guests can also choose whether to use their RF Device to make purchases at select Resort locations.

Yes, you can still get a card to use even if you have a band. Here are two stories of me requesting a card at check-in:

#1: Last year when I requested a card at the check-in desk, the cast member was reluctant to give me one and was kind of a pain, but I got it.

#2: A few months ago when I requested one, the cast member was very helpful. She couldn't find any extra cards though, except one that was lying near her computer, which I got.

So, I don't know if many of the resorts are even still carrying extra cards. They are supposed to, but if they are out, you might have to go a different route beside the front-desk. Also, you can always stow the band in a bag or pocket or something if you can't get the card. Good luck!

You can. You may have to ask for a manager. It is still possible as of today.

DH didn't like wearing the Magic Band either- he attached it to his belt loop. A lady could attach it to her purse/backpack strap as well.

Yea you don't have to wear it. Can attach it to a purse, wristlet, wallet, even put it in your pocket.

But if you'd like a card I know all the guest service windows have tons in stock. If you have time the night before a park day then you can get it from DTD guest service to avoid any wait at the parks.

OP said his wife wanted a KTTW for a room key. That has to be obtained from the resort front desk...a card from a ticket window at the parks is going to be park admission only...his wife won't be able to get into her room, charge to the room, use DDP credits, etc. if she gets a hard ticket from a ticket window.

I'm not sure that is correct. The card is the same as the band. It doesn't have any internal memory, other then the code. Both trigger the information stored in your account, externally. In other words the cards work for admission, FP's, ADR and as a door key. Many people have only one, like myself, and that is the card. Nothing else has been necessary.

I can use my annual pass card to open the resort door. So any card you get that is attached to your MDX should be able to do any of that.

Just to note - I NEVER have worn my MagicBand on my wrist. EVER. Just because it's designed to be worn on a wrist doesn't mean it HAS to be on the wrist. I just tuck it into my small bag or pocket and take it out when I need it. Then it goes right back into the bag or pocket.

I also have never actually worn the magic band on my wrist. I started with just putting it in the zipper compartment on my small purse/fanny pack. Last time, It was wrapped around the strap of my purse.
I had no problem at all, and it was readily available at all times.
