Hi, everyone. I am cooking Thanksgiving dinner again this year, and I want to make some different side dishes. I am looking for ideas and recipes. So far on the menu, we have:

turkey ;)
mashed potatoes
rolls
broccoli and rice casserole
green beans and almonds
cranberry sauce
stuffing

What do you think would go well with the rest of the foods? Thanks for your suggestions.

you have two green veggies.......how about something with color.......like a squash....(yuck to me) corn or something colorful to add to the menu... I do a spinach salad type with cocktail sauce in the middle with shrimp on the sides....adds a nice dish to the table......

go to the food network. Paula Deen has the absolute best recipes, and they are not too difficult. She is the BEST!

If you post this on the cooking board you may get even more ideas :teeth:

We always have Mac and Chesse for the kids to eat.

We go to either my moms or my DH's Grandparents get together. This year it is at DH's family. They ahve like a family reunion and each of us bring enough food for our families. I am making a broccoli salad, a Cranberry Apple Bake, Cabbage Casserole and 2 apple pies. I might also make some brownies that goes over well for children. A few years ago I brought a pineapple casserole. By the time we go to the food it was all gone. Now everyone has my receipe. This is what I normally fix at Christmas but they had a ham and well as Turkey for Thanksgiving.

I am making the following sides to bring to my moms house -
braised beet greens and kale with sweet onions and mushrooms
roasted beets, onions and carrots with fresh rosemary & thyme
mashed mixed winter squash

yum

How about an Italian dish? We always have raviolis and sauce (my job) along with our turkey and fixins.

How about squash or turips, to add some beggie color?

Also, instead of green beans with almonds, do Patty Markus beans.

Green beans
Bacon
Onions
Toasted walnuts
Gorgonzola cheese

Fry up the bacon & onions. Then sautee the beans in the bacon grease. Lay some wlanuts out on a cookie sheet & toast them. Mix the beans with the bacon and the wlanuts. Just before serving, toss in the gorgonzola. Delicious!!!!

You can also do the bacon, onion & beans the day before, then on Thanksgiving day microwave them till hot and then toss all together, witht he walnuts. Ad the cheese at the last possible minute.

How 'bout a fresh fruit salad?
