Can you split adult meals?

I have 3 kids that will be 11,11 and 13 when we go to Disney World in August. None of them will be able to eat a full adult meal at any of the places we go to (I was just looking at the 50's Prime Time Cafe). Can we split meals? I am thinking of getting 3 adult meals and just splitting them among the 5 of us. Will they let us do this? I was even looking at the dinner menu at the Sci-Fi Theatre and those meals look so big, too (although I can't see them). Or could they get just an appetizer? One of the kids will usually just eat chicken tenders or mac and cheese or burgers. We are not on the dining plan. This will be the first time they are going to a Disney park as adults.

Thanks.

I don't see why you can't. I think before we were on the dining plan, we had shared a few meals on occasion cause I hate wasting food, and didn't want to lug it back to the room:goodvibes

Yep, we do it all the time. They usually split the meal in the kitchen for you, but splitting 3 meals 5 ways might be a bit tricky for them. I'm sure they'll bring you extra plates so you can split it however you want.

I don't know if yours would be happier with the portion size & items on the kids menu, but my son was 10 the last time we went & they let him order off the kids menu

Hi Allyson,

This is exactly what we do! Our most recent trips were March and July of 2010, and we never had any difficulty splitting entrees. We have three boys, and our oldest two are pre-teens. Our oldest son usually shares an entree with me, or we both order appetizers instead of an entree. Our middle son is also a pre-teen, but he has never had difficulty ordering from the children's menu. Occasionally, posters here will report a problem with that, but that's relatively rare. Of course, at any fixed price meal (family style or buffet) you would need to pay adult prices for all three.

As long as you're not on the DDP, I don't believe there's a problem (except for buffets of course). I took my girls on a girls' only trip in August shortly after my oldest turned 10. She's a light eater and I wasn't about to pay $46.99 per day for her on the DDP, so I paid OOP for all meals. At LTT I ordered the adult turkey dinner for them to share. We were pleasantly surprised at LTT to have our server/chef split the meal in the kitchen ahead of time for both girls to share :)

DD (19), DH and I went to 50s PT and ordered one fried chicken meal and one Pot Roast meal. We split the two meals between the 3 of us and we had plenty of food.

Thank you everyone. I am sure we can split it at the table if we need to. I know one of the twins would much rather order off the kids menu. Of course, for buffets or family style meals we will pay the adult price. That is not a problem. I have all the kids looking at menus to see where they want to go. It is fun to find all the different foods that are offered. There is so much to choose from. Thank you for your help.

Being on the DDP has nothing to do with it. I go several times a year, use the DDP every trip and have never had a problem sharing.:confused3 I do believe I read that Beaches and Cream is the one restaurant that has a problem with people sharing on the DDP, but otherwise we've shared at most WDW restaurants while on the DDP with no problem.:confused3 As long as it is not a character meal, buffet, or all you can eat item (like Whispering Canyon's BBQ skillet) WDW doesn't care if you share meals.
