Can you show up with fewer people than your original ADR?

We've never had to deal with this before, but I was wondering if you can show up for an ADR with fewer people than you had originally made the reservation for? I ask because it looks like we have a last minute addition of my cousin to our vacation - all of our ADR's were made ages ago for 5 people, now we will have 6. Some I am hoping to change, but there are a couple (a character meal, dinner before MNSSHP) that I am unwilling to miss, and according to current availability, cannot change to include a 6th person.

Can 3 of us show up for a 5 person ADR?

We have had a few occasions where we have shown up with fewer people than our reservation listed. We've always been seated. We tend to visit during slower seasons, though. I have no idea whether restaurants would be less willing or able to accommodate such a change during peak times.

We did it. We had reservations at the Wave for Easter dinner this past year. We originally made the reservation for 11 people, as we thought my aunt, uncle, and cousins would be joining us. They ended up leaving sooner, though, so we only showed up with 7 of us. They seemed to have no problems with it and seated us quickly. My thoughts are that adding people would obviously be a problem, because they have limited seating, but dropping them wouldn't be. We may have very possibly opened up a table for someone who did not have ADR's. :)

Yes of course. I've done it on multiple occasions and the servers never even batted an eye.

I've had to do this as well (going from 4 to 3) and have never had a problem. We just made sure to tell the host or hostess the new size of the party when we checked in.

The only place where showing up with fewer people may be a problem are at the restaurants that require a pre-pay or deposit (e.g., CRT, HDDR, California Grill, etc.). Those places may charge you for the no-shows.

We once walked upto Concierge to get an ADR for the Yachtsman for a table of two. The CM advised me that they only have room for four people but to just explain that two people "had to drop out". Never had an issue when checking in and had a great meal.
