What restrictions? Most if not all of them have been lifted.
Btw, the dining plan can save money. I always run the numbers and on the trips I come out ahead, I use the plan. I don't find it stressful or aggravating.
It's still full of many restrictions, both part of the plan and hidden like not being able to pick what you want to eat and it doesn't include even alcoholic beverages or even allow for splitting meals. It's a terrible plan with horrible value. The way the DDP is currently priced a person would have to order the most expensive entree possible in every restaurant to even come close to buying the same items OOP; even then, depending on the restaurants it would still be cheaper to pay OOP than DDP. If you are on the DDP and there is something wrong with the quality of the food or service you receive you are basically screwed. There is no way to be compensated for your inconvenience because even if the manager was to comp your meal the dining credit is still wasted at the end of your vacation. There is virtually no way possible to get the number of DDP credits perfect for the average vacation; everyone always ends up with too many or not enough credits. That is incredibly frustrating and you never have any of those problems using the method described by MissouriPrincess. Even if you try running the numbers before your trip, you will always get them wrong. Things are going to change on even the best planned trip and the only purpose of the DDP is to make you spend more than you would if you just paid OOP. When you run the numbers every which way you can, you will find the DDP really cannot save you money if you are realistic.
