I have over $600 in Southwest credits that must be used by September 10th. I have a trip planned for a few weeks from now, but realistically we need to cancel it. Can I sell them anywhere?

You should be able to sell them on eBay. I did so a few years ago. Unless something's changed since then, just list the credit and the date of expiration and you're good to go. You can then just email the buyer the code or whatever. When I did it the buyer had no problems.

sorry you have to cancel....you do know that you can use the credit they'll give you for 1 full year from the purchase date (not the flight date)???

Maybe you can use them in the future???? I hear they will also extend that when you get to the last two weeks of it expiring....
I would also suggest Craigslist over Ebay as then there is NO FEE involved.

Also, did you consider seeing if you know anyone friends, family, someone at work, etc that'd just buy it off you????

Best of luck!! :wizard:
I love SW and fly them exclusively (least I try too)

Fyi-- you can no longer sell the credits on Ebay (DARN it!!) You can list but they will pull the listing.

I had extra credits we would not be using and I just sold them on Craigslist--(today in fact) had them sold within 12 hours. List them locally. Also FYI do NOT take paypal payments for them... another DIS poster alerted me to the fact that Paypal does not cover these type of transactions (they only cover actual physical "goods") and she got burnt on her transaction, and took alot of phone calls and detective work to get her credits back. Also bounced her checkbook something terrible... not worth the hassle.

Sell it for cash only, and I listed my amount available and posted "Best Offer" as my selling price, and got pretty close to my value of the voucher. I doubt you'll get the full $600 but you should be able to get pretty close to it.

So did you actually meet up with the person and they handed you cash? I tried Craiglist for something else once and the person was a no show at our destination. I hate putting effort into meeting up with someone since that happened but if you shouldn't use paypal I don't know how else you'd do it.

Yes we met in person, he handed me the cash and I handed over the necessary info for him to use the credit. He got a good deal, I got the credit sold, win win. I had several emails though, asking to pay with paypal, since "they are out of state" "this will make it easier for both of us" etc etc. I just stated I was firm on the cash only policy and it worked!

Some people will be no-shows, but I actually talked to him on the phone before the meeting and we discussed where we would meet, etc and I felt confident about it. If nothing else, if they don't show, you're only out a little time, rather than a bounced check and a mess of a bank acct. But most people will feel they are getting a good value for their money and will show if serious.

Thanks for the reply, I just might try it this way.:thumbsup2

When you met up with your buyer, did you give them just the funds code, or did you also include the names the funds where under?

They will need the confirmation code as well as one name of the party. He already had my name from my emails anyway so I just gave him my name. Also found out you can only use 2 credits per ticket, for instance, we had 4 credits, one per ticket purchased. He was purchasing 2 tickets total so he had to do 2 seperate transactions in order to use all credits. No problem though, since you choose seats upon boarding the plane. That's the only problem I could see (choosing seats ahead of time) with purchasing tickets seperately. But with SW policy even that was a mute point.

You can put on ebay and likely someone will buy it before Ebay pulls it.....that is what happened to me and the guy still wanted it even though they pulled it......so i still got my money.

I also did this in the buying fashion... i bought some before ebay pulled it. Then when i got the email from ebay, i just ignored it. I used the credit just a few weeks ago and it worked fine.

one other option, do you know any travel agents? as ebay does allow them to list and sell it. You might be able to get someone you know post it for you and then just give them like $20 bucks or so......
