Can you see the sapce shuttle launch from WDW?

one back in April of 1993 - Howard Johnsons in Kissimmee watched from the roof, night-time launch - very cool.
and
one back in July of 1995 - this one went up around 9am I think - we were at the now Radison at the Parkway - watched in on the TV and out our windows.

We will be there next week. My son was almost 2 in 1995 so this will be a treat. Been going back and forth about riding over to the east coast to watch (rush hour scares me --- too much time lost in traffic coming back) so I am going to look for a hotel with a restaurant up high maybe for a late lunch/early dinner.

Anyone have a suggestion?

Dont wait too long, the current fleet of shuttles will be retired from service in 2010. The next generation should enter service in 2015. Some sources says that they want a replacement by 2010, but i highly doubt that. :wizard:
Hmm you might be surprised. ;) But I know, it's difficult to believe it until you see it, especially with NASA. It may not be 2010, but I don't think it will be as late as 2015. :sunny:

Yes, if you can, please come on over. There is nothing like feeling and seeing a launch. :goodvibes

Of course we now have to watch Tropical Storm Dennis with Discovery on the Launch Pad.

Oh and if anyone wants to read an interesting series in the local newspaper, check this out http://www.floridatoday.com/apps/pbcs.dll/section?category=news02

I saw it one time from our OKW porch, early one May morning around sunrise, looking towards Downtown Disney. It was neat, it's like when you see a jet leaving a trail across the sky, except this one went straight up and very fast. There was a launch when we were at BWV about 3 years ago. We were outside ESPN, a crowd had gathered but it was scrubbed at the last minute. An ESPN cm came out and told us. It was rescheduled for the next day but it was very cloudy and we could not see it.

A great WDW viewing spot is at the Contemporary Resort's marina. As you look across the lake you'll see it rise above the tree line.
